Just a small-town kid From Pennsylvania chasing the dream of being an outdoor TH-camr. I enjoy hunting, fishing, trapping and just about anything else that gives me an excuse to get outside. I am currently a full time student athlete at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I stay pretty busy and try to post whenever I get the chance. A fun hunt I had during the last week of the PA rifle season with my buddy Zac. We have been on many hunts together now, and it always seems like we just can't seal the deal. I had asked Zac before the hunt if he sighted in his rifle and he said he had. Hindsight 20/20 it wasn't a very good shot to take, but I'm guessing his sight must have got bumped at some point.

This video recaps my two days hunting in Maryland. I had already used up my archery buck tag so I was after a doe. I ended up seeing 4 bucks and a bear. I'll be back down in rifle with a buck tag in my pocket and hope to put one on the ground.

Congratulations. That worked out for you. Unfortunately It may actually be a curse. You will find as you hunt more seasons hunting mornings in early October is a fool’s game. For every one success you will ruin ten spots. The damage morning hunting can do in early October cannot be overstated. There are a few exceptions to the rule like extreme cold fronts but even then the risk reward doesn’t work. If you don’t believe me reach out to Bill Winke. I’m sure he would tell you the same thing…
Yep, I’m a huge fan of winke. However, In my circumstance being a college football player and full time student, I hunt when I can, end of story. If it were my farm and I was the only one hunting it, I would maybe agree with you. But it is not my farm, and I am not the only one hunting it. Also, this morning was the coldest morning of the year up to that point (32).
@@GreenBrierOutdoorshave fun. Definitely hunt when you can. Doesn’t make it right. Just do a search on hunting morning in early season. Facts are facts. Also what makes you think that deer is 3.5?
Nothing wrong with hunting mornings in October if your access is good and you’re not alerting deer to your presence. It’s difficult to hunt deer in the mornings early season because in most cases you have to walk past the deer to get to the spot. If you can find a spot where that isn’t the case, why not hunt it ? Why I believe the deer is 3.5 is through looking at his body in trail camera pictures. Also, I had been watching the deer interact with other bucks glassing from the road. He clearly was the boss on the farm and bullied all the smaller 2.5 year old bucks around. He also weighed 176 pounds field dressed. That’s a big PA deer, the normal 2.5 year olds I’ve shot are between 120-140 lbs.

Just got a $500 ticket for doing the same thing. And it’s a misdemeanor. I had no idea you couldn’t look at wildlife with a light. Ruined my hunting season.

Now up your goal for mature 5 yr old fella . It’s not always how many points. Mass and time length also width and alwaysearz wide or better . Best of luck
I would love to chase a 5 year old buck but sadly here in Pa a 3.5 is a mature buck. Even when you have ground you can manage getting a deer to 5.5 is a tough feat. This buck was the most mature deer on the property I found from running cameras.
