SmartPendant: is it compatible with my controller? How can I check?
In this video I answer most popular question: is SmartPendant compartible with particular controller?
I plan to release SmartPendant kit soon. It will include everything is needed to build one, except 3D printed case parts. Link to store(US only): devtronic.square.site

SmartPendant for grblHAL - PCB now Open Source too!
มุมมอง 1.8K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Previous video: th-cam.com/video/z-IoQAUr2qA/w-d-xo.html I decided to make this project completely open source since shipping outside US is expensive and defeat whole point of relatively cheap pendant for hobbyists. I still plan to sell those for $100 shipping, if you want to buy one - send me an email(in channel description). Link to project in EasyEDA: oshwlab.com/nick_shl/smart_pendant Link ...

Hi,Where can I find controller PCB gerber files? or EasyEDA Project.
Possible to retrofit into Lcnc?
Will you be selling the pendant only or do we have to buy the bundle?
@@FoxyBuildsDIY I still plan to sell the pendant only. Probably as a kit that includes everything that is needed: preassembled board, two front buttons, status LEDs, BlackPill, handwheel and display. The main problem with selling only pendant - I could guarantee that it will work with a particular controller. Not many other controllers have MPG/DRO interface via UART.
Wow... Ini amazing banget. Nicolai apakah untuk tft bisa menggunakan touch chip FT6336u?
This is an excellent option for running diy cnc machines thanks a bunch for your hard work my friend. This is a winner for sure.
good
I bought one of these controllers and with help from Nick was able to get it up and running. It’s extremely accurate and controls the closed loop stepper motors effortlessly. Definitely worth the money. I do wish there was a better wiring diagram though. That aside I’m extremely happy with it.
Have you considered partnering up with PCBway? They could produce the board for us and you can get a small kickback too.
Fantastic video glade to see you sharing your project. You got my vote.
Wondered will your pendant work with other boards?
It will work with any board that support MPG/DRO interface(github.com/grblHAL/core/wiki/MPG-and-DRO-interfaces) via UART.
Hi, nice project. Iam working on something simmilar, but I want to use ESP32 as controller and SD will be mounted, but gcodes will be on S3 server that I self hosted or trough some API server and when I run code it will coppy it to SD and that run it from SD.
I purchased one of your controllers. Any chance you can do a wiring video. Something simple i.e. closed loop stepper drive wire goes here, spindle goes here etc. thank you.
Hello Mr. I see that the XYZ axes are always in mm can I put the reading in degrees as if they were 3 horizontal indexers and maybe add more axes or indexers as A B C and if you can also add a speed regulator to the head or Motor? it is for a Nema 17 notor with a reducer with a ratio 100/1 I have 3 motors and their reducers to be indexers in degrees thank you
I think you should do something else. You won't beat the Chinese either in terms of knowledge or performance. Whether in a factory or in a basement, they make things that simply work and are affordable. As an amateur, I have to spend a lot of money and waste even more time to complete your project. I can get it from the Chinese in two days and 200% cheaper and it works.
I've two of these and so far they've printed around a kilometer of filament without any problems. Depends where you buy from. Switched to BMG clones from Mellow, reasonable quality on reasonable price, just need regular maintenance.

damn, with a different firmware, this could be an excellent macropad for a PC (usecases: video/audio editors, stream deck, spotify carthing and so on) amazing work!
This is amazing. Would this somehow be compatible with LinuxCNC?
This is a standalone setup you don't need a computer to run your cnc. This hooks up to your control box and your good to go. You still need a computer to put your gcode on a SD card and that's what you use on this device to run your machine.
Great update, you explain things clearly even to a beginner. I would love to build one and feature it on a CNC video on my channel but I cannot seem to get the PCB ordered! I've got the handwheel, screen and BlackPill but I have never done electronics design and have a hard time getting my head around how to order a populated PCB based on the BOM. Would it be possible to make a simple (maybe just written) guide on how to do it? I'd love to plug your design and check out how it works with a beginner CNC!
Hi I would like one or two how much are you charging? Are you in United States?
Yes, I am in the US. My target price for a fully assembled board(including BlackPill and ready to use) is $80 + shipping. If you would like to buy one - send me an email(address in the channel description).
@@NicolaiLabok perfect im a truck driver as soon as i get home I’ll email you thank you

Fantastic build! Did you ever try to build the project with platformio? Would also be nice to see a bit more how this connects to the grblHAL board. And if I may suggest, adding the gerbers, the bom and the p&p file and the hex as release artifacts would be super useful. Great project!
I designed a board use the fluidnc, does it support? or SmartPendant only use the UART comunication? the fluidnc use the IIC to comunication to Pendant
It doesn't support FluidNC at the moment. Why I2C? According to this page: wiki.fluidnc.com/en/config/uart_sections "UART channel create a new Grbl interface on a UART. This is designed for displays, pendants and external controllers", so technically it should be possible to add FluidNC support into SmartPendant and connect it via UART.
Nice work Nicolai. Next time, I might suggest mounting the 3 jaw chuck of your lathe on the bed of your mill, to hold the part more securely. Otherwise, you could prepare a set of aluminum soft jaws with a recess the same diameter as the base of the part to better hold it in the vice.
Amazing man. Can you make 5 axis camera slider controller using Arduino maga and python(GUI)
If you want to know what a SmartPendant for grblHAL is, it's a device to manually control a CNC machine (like Nicolai has in the background.) More information on his pendant is available here: th-cam.com/video/z-IoQAUr2qA/w-d-xo.html
looking good, think making it open source might help you build a larger communbity and support for your work and products. I was looking at the firmware and looks like you added usb cdc support so it can act as a usb host vs using uart ? if so that is great as I wanted to try to run and operate without a PC on my current project
No, at this point it works as a USB CDC device. It is for debug purposes - all data traffic between the pendant and controller can be sent to USB too.
This looks excellent! Excuse my ignorance but is there a file available somewhere on the git page to be able to print the circuit board (or order from PCBWay etc.)? I can see the schematic but not the board.
At first my plan was to make open source software and keep the PCB to sell those devices to fund my hobby. Now I am reconsidering this approach - there are some complications with shipping outside the US - shipping is expensive(for example to ship to Norway cost about $33) and local taxes(like 23% VAT in the EU) will make the price way too high than I would like($100 + shipping for a finished device). I will probably make a PCB open source soon.
@@NicolaiLab Thanks for the reply. I understand perfectly. If you have a way to sell a pendant or just the board or even the board drawing so that I can have one manufactured, I’d be more than happy to pay a decent price for it! Let me know if you’d be open to it.

This is incredible, thanks! Many users can benefit from this project 👍 If you mind, I do have some feature request to make it a streamline option: - Do you think a gcode preview is feasible ? - Multilingual support would be really nice too
