One Morning in Chomphet, Luang Prabang

Wat Chomphet was bult in 1888 by the Siamese general Chao Phraya Surasakmontri. The remains of King Oun Kham of Luang Prabang (r.1868-1895) are interred in one of the stupas behind the temple.

Every year Luang Prabang celebrates the end of Buddhist Lent with its amazing Fire Boat Festival "Boun Lai Heua Fai". Each temple in the town builds a huge paper float illuminated by candles, and after a procession through the town they are floated down the Mekong river, carrying away the town's misfortunes from the year.

The Blue Moon Valley of Lijiang's Snow Mountains in Yunnan has a series of lakes of crystal clear water flowing fresh from the mountains. We visited at the start of a week long holiday for the Chinese so it was very busy but the scenery was still fabulous.

Whilst in Dali, Yunnan, Siamrat visited the famous Three Pagodas which date back to the 9th & 10th centuries. But I had not done my homework about the Chong Sheng Temple located there and I very much under-estimated it's size and the length of the walk involved. A much longer climb than I expected but well worthwhile in the end.
