How Did Our Grand Canyon Trip Go?
มุมมอง 4644 หลายเดือนก่อน
The family road trip takes us to the Grand Canyon for a day. It was a perfect chance to get some sunrise and sunset photo opportunities. We also take in a rim hike. What an amazing place. Again, one cannot capture the experience on electronic media. You have to be there to understand the immense scale of what you see before you. It was a great stop on our trip and I am very happy with the photo...

For this Average Guy adventure, the family is continuing their epic road trip through southern Utah. After Arches National Park yesterday, today it's Canyonlands and the Islands in the Sky district of the park. It's a shorter video as the visit was in the middle of the day and the worst time for photography. However, did see some of the most amazing and expansive views. We also ended the visit ...

It’s time for another photo adventure … but’s cold out. It’s February. Sometimes the urge to get out is greater than the circumstances and I head out into the local Oregon Coast Range for more scouting adventure. Annie, my dog, and I visit The Jewel Meadows Wildlife area to observe the Rosevelt Elk. We visited Fishhawk Falls nearby. We also view Saddle Mountain in the distance most of the day. ...
Great fun on a Tillamook and Cape Meares Adventure! Oh, and the DMV?

How do you turn the dreaded task of going to the Department of Motor Vehicles into a fun beach day? Go to the Tillamook DMV. I head to Tillamook to renew my drivers license (don’t worry, I don’t bring you along to all that). Jeannette and Sam actually volunteer to go to the DMV with me as we head over the hills to Tillamook to avoid the long DMV lines and enjoy a fun day after the dreaded task ...

Lesser Known Columbia Gorge Hike [More Difficult]
You LOST your DRONE?! I didn't know that was possible! Dang.... So that means ... new drone! NEW DRONE!!! So what kind are you going to get next time??? Joking aside, you got lots of pretty footage for us to enjoy - thanks for taking a day trip!
Thanks Lisa! Yep, I was crushed to lose my drone. I’ve been scanning eBay looking for a good deal as I really would like a replacement.
I especially enjoyed this episode. I am not intimate with the Glenwood to Klickitat area but am familiar with it, having Kayaked the river there many times. I love the winding roads that go from high prairie to deep canyons and forest in just a few miles. I am sorry for your lost of the drone. You have two adventurous women in you life, and lucky for it.
Thanks! I am lucky.
Amazing video ❤😊 thanks for sharing and please stay connected my new friend
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video.
👵Thankyou 4 taking the time and effort 2 post this video. . . I used 2 wander around hunting 4 pictures w/tripod and 35mm. . . Had a poleriser also. .. Never got up in the Adam's area but my time here hasn't ran out yet. . . Loved all those shots. . . Got misty eyed over them. . . God Bless and keep u safe while hunting out there. . . 🤗🙏
Thank you for the nice comment. I hope can some day find time to get out and explore Mt Adams. It’s not as well known as the other mountains. Thanks again and take care!
Looks like a fruitful trip! I'm hoping to get out this weekend and shoot a little myself if the weather cooperates.
Thanks. It was a good trip but the weather limited what I was hoping for. Of course I have always believed being at the right place at the right time is the best photo tip out there. The weather makes the right time much more difficult. I hope you get out and have success. Good luck and let me know if you get anything worth while.
Very nice! It's clear you put a lot of thought and talent into composing your extraordinarily beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing your talents and love of the mountains.
Than you! They say it's better to be lucky than good. I guess that's how I feel about my experiences. I've been lucky. I appreciate the kind words.
Because of a health issue we cancelled a trip to see fall color out this way. WE APPRECIATE THIS TRIP ON VIDEO. Thanks to you and Annie!
Thanks Carolyn. Sorry you guys couldn’t get out this year. The colors were good but not great this year for some reason. Maybe the weather played a role.
Ahhh! Stop! Don't drive into that lake! You found the pretty, even in not-so-pretty weather. Very nice work - thank you!
Thank you Lisa!
I was pleased to see that photo of the cows in Trout Lake. I find that scene wholesome and refreshing. Thanks for adding it to your video.
Ha ha, of course. When I think of Trout Lake, I think of Mt Adams … and dairy cows.
Hello from Puerto Rico friends, first time to see your videos, i visit two years ago the great Monument Valley ,its spectacular , your video and your photos are ammasing, thanks for your great job
Hello to our new friends in Puerto Rico. Thank you for taking time to let us know you enjoyed the video. The southwest part of America is amazing and so different then where we live in the Northwest part. I wish I could spend more time to explore before we had to go home and back to our regular lives and work. Again, thanks for the comment and take care. I would love to see Puerto Rico someday. I bet it has great beauty too!
In Newport you did not show the stinky seals
Ha ha! I guess not. At least not intentionally. You can sure hear them though. They sure do make a lot of noise.
Looks like an excellent adventure around the southwest!
It sure was! Next time I go back, I'm going to pick 1 national park and spend a few days just at that one park exploring farther off the beaten and populated paths.
@@averageguyphotography That's a great idea!
"The Redcoats are coming!" lol Those structures sure look like ranks of toy soldiers, especially in the red dawn-light. Greetings from Perth, West Australia, Wow, you sure live in a scenic area. How far did you have to travel on this holiday? We also have some scenic and unique places, here in Australia, but you may have to travel up to 2,000 to 3,000 MILES to get to them. Cheers, Frank.
Ha ha! Yes! They do look like the Redcoats. Nice visualization, Frank. Thanks for checking in. We traveled 3,700 miles on this trip. I know that Australia has some of the most interesting geology and interesting and unique landscapes in the world. From what I read, it's also some of the most desolate and harsh landscapes. I love it. Someday I wish to see for myself. That kind of thing is totally my kind of adventure.
Having been to Bryce several times I understand and appreciate your comment about that moment when you wondered if you were still on planet earth. I think I experienced that that exact moment myself every time I was there asking myself, "Is this place for real?" It was great seeing Bryce through your eyes.
It is absolutely beautiful. Probably my favorite park of all the National Parks we visited on our trip.
Hey I went there once
Awesome! Amazing place.
@@averageguyphotography FIRST
@@Oats_YT of course you are …. Again! Ha ha!
Hi guys, great video of an awesome holiday locale. Are all you end shots composites of your bracketted shots? Or are some of them single exposures? Either way, Well done. Greetings from Perth, West Australis. Cheers, Frank.
Hello Frank! That is a good question. As the afternoon wore on, more light made it down into the canyon. I didn't need use multiple exposures to get the range anymore. To be honest, the dynamic range of modern digital cameras has improved so much lately that the single exposure works more often now when only bracketed exposures used to work. And, to be honest, even with the bracketed exposures, I found the images rendered HDR did not look natural. I was not a big fan. I should have mentioned that in my video. Anyway, hope you are doing well down there in Perth and thanks for taking the time to comment.
I love Zion, having been there four previous times, and your video brought back great memories. The same for Vegas, I enjoyed just watching the drive down the strip. As always your end of video photos are magnificent. You really captured those canyons. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Zion is a gorgeous place. Vegas is fun. It needs to be its own trip for us sometime.
First! (Check it Sam, I win!!)
Ha ha! You win this time, Jeannette.
music sucks - ruined the video
Thanks for the feedback.
Again, the music you chose for your video is perfect, setting a mood that draws the viewer in. Well done.
Thank you!
Well done guys, you've got some excellent photos there [IMHO anyway] That Grand Canyon is really something to see. Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.
Yeah! We are always so happy to hear from Frank! Thank you. Hope you are doing well, Frank!
I use to work on the south. Rim, Grand canyon. Awesome place!!!!
That’s awesome! What an amazing place to work. Did you ever feel like you got used to the scenery or was it always amazing like it is when first visited?
FIRST. This guy is so cool you should subscribe
Haha! Congrats Sam!
How many people were in the middle of the road?
I think the number of people varied. When we first got there, I think only 5 or 6 people. Then several large families and groups stopped and it was more then 20. If we were patient, which we were not this day, then we could have had the road to ourselves.
@@averageguyphotography did anyone get honked at?
Yes! As a matter of fact a big dump truck with an air horn really made people jump. It was kind of funny. It is an active highway however.
@@averageguyphotography wow! lol! Did your kids get honked at to?
Ha ha! No, but they were very cautious.
My daughter and I took turns getting our pictures taken at the John Ford point. The horse's name is Spirit. She was very good and just stood still there at the point for the epic shot.
Hi! I read your comment to my daughter and she perked up with excitement. Yes, she confirmed, the horse was Spirit. She was excited to share the experience. Glad you were able to get the shot.
I'm still trying to figure out how to get there myself!
Keep trying. It wouldn’t be quite as intriguing if it was easy to find. Good luck to you.
@@averageguyphotography I’ll find it but I know everyone that has been has had little help
I'm glad you enjoyed my reservation , the Navajo Diné Nation 👍🏽💯
Yes! Thank you for sharing this with us. Next time I go, I am going to plan better and have time to hire a guide to see this amazing creation with the knowledge of someone who knows it well. It is a special place. ~Jason
@@averageguyphotography Yes sir. It is a remarkable place full of rich history. We Diné, always welcome vistors to experience the majestic and spiritual landscape. Another place I would highly recommend is Canyon de Chelly.
I very much liked how you described the transition from narrow canyons to the wide expanse of Monument Valley as I could picture it happening as you drove along. Your beautiful photos brought back the feel of the heat coming off the rocks and carried along by the wind, along with the smell of the desert plants. Thank you 1
Thanks for the compliment. I sure do find that place amazing and beautiful. It’s amazing to all the senses.
Wow guys! Really like that scenery! Love what you've done with your pictures, that dark, forbidding sky really makes them pop. Good work! Greetings from Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.
Hey Frank. Good to hear from you again. Thanks. Hope you are doing well. Jason
First
Ha ha! Congrats.
Gorgeous...and scary! I can imagine spending a night under the rock overhang. I bet it would be cool in a thunderstorm.
Yes! I was scared again just editing the video. I move the red rocks and the landscape. I too would love camping out under the overhangs. You can see why A lot of early inhabitants used the rocks for shelter.
I love the way you are addressing each park, you guys visited on your family trip, individually. Your videos put that magnificent area into perspective for me.
Thank you so much!
That guy that sits in the buck is really handsome .😅
Yeah, but his personality can be salty. Ha ha!
@@averageguyphotography hey DAD. What about Sophie she is too
Yeah, Sophie too. Both are salty in a good way. I was just teasing.
I enjoyed the music chosen to accompany this wonderful video. Well done all around.
Thank you!
I enjoyed visiting Horse Thief Butte again via your video. I have been here too many times to count but never get tired of this harsh but beautiful place. Your video makes me want to get over there again.
Hi! Horsethief really is an amazing place.
I very much enjoy your photo adventure videos..I found the music you used for this episode interesting and unusual. I like it. It fits the mood.
Thank you!
Another informative and interesting adventure. Paul and I enjoy traveling along through your videos. Thanks
Thank you Carolyn!
As a hobby photographer/hiker/camper/adventurer/former Oregonian, your videos feed my soul ❤

First
Ha ha! Congrats!
Great video
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.
Well, beings you're from Oregon I'd say your next new adventure should be a trip to the Washougal Outdoor Nationals😃 You'll dig it!
Yes! That's an excellent idea. I used to ride ... back in the 80's and 90's. I was more into trail riding but my brother actually raced one day in the 125cc amateur days races in Washougal. I need to go back. There would be amazing shots in the upper classes, I'm sure. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking forward to it now.
Looks like a really nice walk, mid summer and hardly a soul on the trail! We probably use the same trick of avoiding them on camera lol
Yep! We were lucky this time, however, in that the crowds come in from Portland. We were camped nearby so did t have much of a trip. Most were headed back for dinner when we arrived. We aren’t always able to be this lucky but we were this time. Unfortunately this hike has become overwhelmingly popular. I believe this year you will be required to buy a parking permit to hike his one.
Looks like an awesome trip.So good to get lost in the forest and enjoy time in nature. Count me as a new sub.
Thank you! It great having you aboard.
Gorgeous scenery. Awesome video!!!
Thank you very much!
Dec 27. Jason I really enjoy your photo adventures. They are peaceful and of course I love the views of nature. I had been to a tunnel along the ocean but it seemed different so maybe it was a different location. Your Mom would know the exact spot that I don't remember. We stayed at a hotel there for Jacob's graduation trip. Bonnie also took us to the Tillamook cheese factory. I enjoyed sampling the cheeses. I bought Tillamook butter the other day for wild rice soup ha!! Sam has grown like a weed and Jeannette is looking good. God Bless, Merry Christmas and a strong 2024. I'm quite sure when I think more about it, this is where it was. Ocean Side.
Hi Deb! Yes, that is the same place. I remember being there with Jacob. I was on that trip as you guys stopped by here first. We joined you on that day. Fun times.
Yes I remembered all that after I started reliving the trip. It was all so fun. Thanks again for the poto adventure. Your photography is very good also!
I like the out of town DMV idea, we've done a similar idea before but at the DMV in Bishop, CA. That is the hub city for a lot of the fishing locations in the Eastern Sierras and sometimes those small town DMV's save your life (especially compared to down here next to LA). Definitely want to stop by Tillamook now, have heard stories about the factory you went to from family that lives in Madras, OR. On both of my Oregon road trips, we cut off early towards Grants Pass on the way to Beaverton. Great video!
I think in the future I will have to consider the small town DMV as a future trend for me. If you ever get a chance, the Tillamook Cheese Factory (Creamery) is a wonderful visit - just like the whole Northern Oregon Coast. The Sierras on my list. I wish I didn't have such a busy day-job or I would start planning on a trip for this summer to the Sierras. I just may have to make it a priority.
@@averageguyphotography Definitely recommend the Eastern Sierras, the whole route from Reno, NV down to Mammoth, and the next section down to Bishop is a beautiful scenic byway, tons of beautiful photo locations all the way down. Would recommend the fall season for photography, look up spots like Twin Lakes in Bridgeport, Lundy Lake, June Lake, Grant Lake, Lake Sabrina. These are my landscape photo filmmaking wonderlands. Keep the adventures coming!
Thanks for the tip. It sounds just like my type of adventure
Hey guys, what an end to a truly horrific experience [the DMV visit]. Our version of the DMV here is West Australia seems to be much the same, you need a cut lunch and a water bottle [and maybe a sleeping bag?] when you visit. Great scenery and I loved the photos. Greetings from West Australia. See you on the next one, Frank
Ha ha! Good to hear from you Frank. Thanks for letting me know that the long suffering at the DMV is a global issue.
We've had egrets visit the field behind our house...although, I'm not entirely convinced they're not white flamingos. I remember hearing about the marker trees. The original, Native American highway markers, but for trails! I heard that they're all over North America, but I'd only heard of ones in the Midwest and out East. So what is the octopus tree saying? "GPS recalculating...?" Awesome, above-average video, Mr. Average Guy. Thank you for the trip to the coast!
Thanks Lisa. Ha ha on the Flamingos. Do Egrets stand on one leg?
@@averageguyphotography I hear that they do stand on one leg in water. Reduces heat loss.
Makes sense. This is not Florida so saving heat would be very important. They also seem so much like the Blue Herons that we see in the swampy areas up here in the hills.
