So excited that the TH-cam algorithm brought me here!! I’m a professional opera singer and I love this style of singing but it’s just a different technique and I’ve never managed to achieve this sound in a way that felt healthy! I’m developing a project that combines classical songs accompanied by folk instruments and also folk singing from different cultures and in different styles! So excited to practice this and see where I can take it! And I’m of polish heritage so I love that you’re teaching a polish song. 🥰

it's fascinating to me to see and learn about the langspil from the perspective of an American player of the dulcimer, mountain dulcimer that is, as it's a cognate instrument, related by the German Scheitholt/Scheitholz that the Pennsylvania Dutch brought into the Appalachians, who my grandmother's family come from. It's nice to see the bowing of the instrument. Scheitholts were bowed some in the beginning and although there've been some revivals of it as of some decades past (and the creation of the purpose built bowed dulcimer, which fulfilling the purpose of the cello the speaker from this video may find that instrument quite interesting), strumming of a quality a bit more vigorous than that of the women in this video's plucking has become quite the norm here. I rather like the general quality of the vocal accompaniment. While I do not speak Icelandic, the sound of it is beautiful as is the music made from it. Pennsylvania Dutch folksongs which I know of better have a much... happier, kinda comedical almost, air to them which I have to say isn't my favorite part. So the more somber sounding Icelandic, to my ears anyways, is quite nice.

It is wonderful watch you video and to hear that the songs I used to make up singing to amuse myself as a child calling farm and wild animals and birds to me or to sing to trees is so close to tonality and scale of kulning. I am exploring my voice again now and singing in the woods and hills. I get some curious looks from the hikers and the sheep!
