Solo winter summit camp with heavy SNOW! How do I keep warm?
Join me as I head out on a solo winter summit wildcamp in the Lake District. My original plan to join Dan in Wales was cancelled last minute, so I had to quickly come up with a second plan. I decided to re visit Great Mell Fell, but ascend from the opposite side to my previous camp. Heavy snow and 35 mph winds were forecast, so I packed appropriately and headed out. Starting the ascent it was -1 Celsius, no snow on the ground, but plenty visible on the tops, however my destination was shrouded in mist. The acsent was a steep one, and on nearing the top there was a good coating of snow. I quickly set up the Tarptent Scarp 1 Ultra and get inside to keep warm. Throughout this video I share my tips on keeping warm whilst winter camping. I enjoy my evening meal, and get my head down early. I wake up at 3 am to a vestibule full of snow, and snow ontop of my inner mesh due to spindrift! As there was nothing I could do about it i went back to sleep until 6 am, when I get up to have breakfast, which was a struggle with more and more snow entering the tent. Eventually I pack up and head home after descending through deep snow. I hope you all enjoy, atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁 #camping #snow #winter #wintercamping #cold

No more cold hands with GOKOZY heated gloves!

Over the past couple of years I've been getting very cold hands at camp during winter, recently this has been diagnosed as reynaud's syndrome. As you will see in the video blood circulates away from the fingers, and they turn white, it's very painful, and can take a long time to warm up, and is increasingly painful as this happens. I'd been looking for a solution to this, and had decided to get...

    One thing I'd add with having a wee when it's cold is the body heats that wee up inside so it's beneficial to get it out because you could end up feeling cold if you hold it in. A couple of tips from me would be always being everything inside the tent when camping in the snow (especially your boots) so all your gear doesn't get snow on. Another would be take some waterproof workman gloves (cheap on Amazon) as they will help you put up or take your tent down without getting cold wet hands and you will still have full dexterity as there tight to your hands. Happy camping, Chris 👍

    Cheers for the mention mate and I did take my foam mat this time too, it's 2 or 3mm btw. Recommend running gloves to keep y hands warm whilst keeping dexterity, they're not seriously warm but good transition gloves. . Those down trousers look good! I had exactly the same problem with the snow in my porch last night - 1 foot easy, let's see what Henry Shires has to say about it! I honestly don't think it was how it was set up, I had mine pinned down as far as I could, the wind was just whipping the powder up and in. I remember being on top of Foel Grach 40mph winds, - 16. Comparing the hilleberg akto to scarp, the scarp was more robust on top, it was taught AF, the akto was flappy, but the wind was whipping under the scarp and I was worried it would blow off without me in it! The akto was closer to the ground and better for it. Please please Henry Shires make it all the way to the ground or attachable snow skirts 🙏

      No worries 💪 I remember you had it on a camp with me, I couldn't believe the difference, definitely part of my winter kit now 👌 the down trousers and socks are brilliant, think i paid £74 for them both, absolute bargain 😀 yeah Henry needs to see this for sure, no point having a tent designed for snowloading if it all ends up in your tent 😳 it's the only flaw the scarp has in my opinion, if it went to the ground we could choose to lift it up for extra ventilation. Catch you soon 🦆 atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁

    England? Manufacture the tent in England, its price becomes 600 pounds. Silicon in a store, you have to pay per hour, also as in England, not slave Asia.

    • @ACumbrianladoutdoors
      @ACumbrianladoutdoors 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I'm in England, OEX is a British brand, although I'm not sure where it's manufactured as some searches suggest it's in the UK others say its not specified. Sealing a tent takes minutes not hours, i personally think it should be including the price. And I never mentioned anything about slaves in Asia mate, so I'm not sure what point you are trying to make, as the only point I was trying to get across is that I believe tents should come seam sealed. Atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁

    • @VolodymyrKostenko-q1m
      @VolodymyrKostenko-q1m 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ACumbrianladoutdoors You probably don't interact with high-level seamstresses who earn 100 pounds a month by working 12 hours a day. Or with engineers who also make 100 pounds a month. What is this, if not slavery? This is now given a veiled name-third-world countries. And that’s where such low wages come from. It’s so hard to get into first-world countries, even for a second-world country surrounded by first-world nations. It’s profitable to have cheaper, educated labor nearby. Applying silicone to seams in a store. Nice-oh, very difficult. The edges won’t be even. It needs to dry for several days so it doesn’t stick to the fabric at all. You’ll be the first to be dissatisfied that it’s not as neat as from the factory, and you won’t want to pay for handmade work. I’ve sealed miles of seams myself. But my products are custom-made. People don’t get offended by custom work. I don’t want to offend, English is not my native language. But very few stores would want to do such delicate work as sealing seams with silicone using a brush. Although for those who know how, it can be done quite quickly. But visually, it’s easy to tell that it was sealed with a brush.

    The hold on the ridge line are to tie up the inner cover off of you so you can fit a pad or sleeping bag. The extra cord that came with it will fasten into the loops.

    Thanks for the review. Just a bit late for me as mine arrived several weeks ago. This is my first hot tent and my first actual tent in many years. (Been a hammock camper for years.) Took it out for a test run last week in the Adirondack Mountains in northern NY, USA, just south of the Canadian border. Temps were below freezing ea night and the tent stayed hot and toasty as long as I fed the stove with good hard wood every few hours. My 0°F quilt from my hammock was my back-up and I skipped feeding the stove the second half of the night. (Rule 1: Never rely on a stove to keep you alive. Carry gear to survive without it if need be.) Tent has more than enough space for 1 person or 2 if you are particularly fond of each other. This trip I was car camping by myself and for the first time, I went full luxury and had a cot, chair and table and a stack of firewood. (Don't ask about the refrigerator, the 2400 watt power supply and the small induction cooker in the Jeep.) With all that, there was still room to maneuver in the tent and tend the stove and stretch my legs. Most of the camping I plan to do with this tent this winter will be in northern wilderness areas, snowshoeing in and pulling my gear in a pulk. I'm removing the inner mesh tent for the cold months (No mosquitos flying when the temps are well below freezing and the snow is measured in feet.) I've ordered a separate bathtub floor, slightly smaller than in the mesh tent, to provide a dry space for the sleeping area which will open up the interior even more. If I bring a cot, there is still a dry floor for storing stuff below it. Didn't have much rain that trip. One review I've seen mentioned very slight moisture at the vent seams but no actual leaking. I had lots of wind, and as mentioned, the stove jack high up helps keep the stove pipe vertical and stable. Still, guy it out at the top for safety. This tent was worth every penny I spent and I'm taking it back north soon when the real winter comes.

      Cheers buddy, yeah it's a cracking tent, plenty of room, and keeps the heat in nicely, I'm a hammock camper too, and nothing is as comfortable as that, but this is a good 2nd place. Agreed, never rely on the stove, that's why I always take the full winter sleep system. I plan to also run mine without the bug mesh for some more room, I'm just going to use one of my tent footprints to make a dry area. Sounds like you've got some awesome plans for the winter, that's my kinda fun 😁 thanks for watching and commenting, it's really appreciated, atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁

    Fantastic video loved it. I climbed red pike 2 days by them steps and they was a killer but much worse coming down so slippy I'd never do them steps again. The views are amazing but it was a good 40 maybe 50mph winds up there when I climbed so couldn't risk getting my drone out.i will get there again but a different route. Keep up the great work.

    As an owner of 16 tents! (Don't laugh) The Massif is my favourite. Took one on a motorbike trip down through France and Spain and and was the perfect choice. I also have camped in it on the Pennines in 50mph winds and was astonished how strong it is. Great vid.

    I camped for 2 weeks on St Agnes, in the Isles of Scilly, it was great to see that the campers were so generous, anyone who had food left or soap, washing powder, shower gel, books they'd read, loo roll, etc etc, left it all on a shelf (the only place to charge your phone!) and anyone who has need of it, was welcome to it.

    Question: was this tent given to you for free by Naturehike, or did you buy with your own money? I have had bad experiences with Naturhike tents leaking and getting my sleeping bag soaking wet while in cold wet weather. I would have a hard time trusting them again.

    • @ACumbrianladoutdoors
      @ACumbrianladoutdoors หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi John, i bought it with my own money mate, as I say in the video whilst looking for a new hot tent this one kept grabbing my attention, but I kept telling myself no because its a Naturehike, so I took a punt, and I'm really happy with it, I'll be doing a full in depth review of it very soon 👍 thanks for watching and commenting mate, it's really appreciated, atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁

      @@ACumbrianladoutdoors Okay, thank you. My unfortunate experience with them happened in 2017 so maybe they have improved since then, I am not sure. I currently have two tents I use as hot tent: 1) an insulated ice fishing tent, and 2) A yurt which can accomodate about 10 people sitting. I transport them over the snow via sled.

    • @ACumbrianladoutdoors
      @ACumbrianladoutdoors หลายเดือนก่อน

      @johncramer9564 don't get me wrong I still wouldn't but a "normal" naturehike, they just copy other tents cheaply, but they seem to have pulled it out of the bag with this one. That sounds cool, where abouts are you based buddy? We don't get that kind of weather in the UK. Atb Paul 🙏🏕🏕🏕😁
