Puerto Rican Rice Recipe:
- Warm pot (use a low flame)
- Add enough oil to cover the bottom of the pot (about 6 tbsp)
- 1/2 - 3/4 can of gandules (drain liquid first)
- 12 - 14 olives (Alcaparrado Manzanilla Olives)
- 2 tbsp Sofrito
- 1 packet of Sazón ( con Culantro y Achiote)
- 1 1/2 tbsp salt
- 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
- 4 cups of water
- Turn up flame to high
- Add 4 cups of white rice
- Once it starts to boil, stir every couple of minutes so rice doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot. After the rice has soaked up all the ingredients, lower flame, cover the pot and let it cook for 55 minutes. *feeds approx. 6 people*
- *Optional: Add Salchichón (farmer sausage) cut in small pieces after adding oil to pot.

No ,no , no! , we don't cook rice like that.
Thank you for sharing this video! I followed the easy instructions and it came out perfect!! Love it!!
Very strange, all the older folks I know cook this with out stirring. They want the burnt part on the bottom. They fight over the burnt part. haha. Never stir this rice until it is done.
Do I turn the fire down low once it starts to boil???
Why does mine always come out mushy?
si pero la mucica esta muy alta
Too much mixing
Why did you only make 1 video ?😢
55 minutes????
Por qué se cocina por tanto tiempo
Could you increase music volume? I could hardly hear it. 😂😂😂😂
Oh baby I need this
long, med or short grain rice?
Do people ever wash their rice anymore? Just curious. We were told to wash it to release the starch because of milling. Nice receipt....will try it!!!
55 min on low or high?
I am Puerto Rican and this recipe is great. The only thing I'd say is to use the fresh green sofrito from the Hispanic grocery store if you can. This recipe is tried and true. I've made it like 20 times.
Thanks for the video Do you rinse the rice?
Way too much salt!!!
How do you know? Lol, could be sea salt (yknw, real salt that isnt enhanced).
That's ur opinion
Awesome video!!! Watching this made me realize how easy it is to cook and I No longer need my wife ! 😊 out she goes 🎊
Great video! I think the only three things I do differently are: I add chopped Garlic, Vienna Sausages and Recaito. I also sometimes make the red sauce on the side with a good size potato and Dark Red Kidney Beans. I just recently started making PR Rice. I always just winged it. I finally got tips from 3 people, combined their ways and added or subtracted what I liked/didn't like. You have to make a recipe your Own.
Hi. Do you have to wash the rice first before adding to the pot?
Never ever ever use hot water to start. It will have lead in it that can’t be removed even with boiling
What rice is best to use? Parboil?
I usually use fresh homemade sofrito or the green jar of sofrito? I never used the red jar. Do you think the red is better?
I tried to make this but couldn't find the song..
😂😂😂
Made this recipe the other day, turned out amazing. Im half puerto rican by the way
This is a lot of rice can I use the same method but with 2 cups rice? How much water?
My go to!! I add two sazon packets, just my preference but it comes out great every time! Thank you!
Tried it and it was too much rice to little water ..turned out sticky😢
Google says for every cup of rice 2 cups of water
I've been using this recipe for a while now. I can honestly say this is the best rice I've ever made. I've tried others, but this has always come out perfect every time. Thank you for sharing your video.😊😉☺️👍
Do you have to wash the rice first before adding?
Help! I want to make this recipe but I am struggling to find any ingredients local stores or online? 😢
Muchisimas gracias por esta receta. I made it today for the first time, y salio por la maceta, chica. Thank you!

Omgs the worst video ever. If y’all want to make real Puerto Rican gandules rice. Start with pure Sofrito. Learn it on TH-cam. There are better videos than this one…..
