They were just brilliant. First proper band I ever saw when I was 14 in 1979 at Cambrige Corn Exchange. Got served beer with no questions asked lol. There was a mini riot outside and inside because a bunch of right wing skinheads turned up. Malcolm got hit full in the face by a can of beer thrown by one of the Nazi twats! Gave em hell and then launched into Jah War. The whole band was astonishing tight and powerful. To this day, the best gig I've been to. Remember it like it was yesterday 😎
I saw The Ruts 17th June 1979 they were supporting The Damned in the Locarno Bristol The Slits supported The Ruts, I was 14 years old, young Punk best days of my life, seen em all Pistols , Clash twice , Jam , Stranglers 3 times , Specials In 79 before the split , and pretty much every other relevent group you can name from those days. Loved every second of it , back stage with the Clash , The Jam and boat loads of others , If only I had a time machine.
The Ruts were/are one of the best punk bands of the period. Malcolm's overdose, at the age of just 25 yrs old, was truly tragic because the guy had a message, talent, and potential to be something massive. Malcolm Owen (RIP).
Gran, gran banda a la que habría que hacérsela escuchar al idiota de Bruce Dick-inson para ver si luego va a seguir diciendo de que el punk es "basura"...?
Any band that bucks the system .is alright in my book .that is why u will always find me .at the pointed end of any uprising or riot .LONG LIVE ANARCHY.
3 terrific singles .BABALYONS BURNING.LOVE IN VAIN .SOMETHING THAT I SAID .JUST TO NAME 3 .THEY FORMED A BAND .IN RESPECT A MALCOMBE.RUTS DC WHAT A TRIBUTE 2 A GREt singer .rip malcombe .may god reserve u a place in heaven 😢
They went to town recording this whole album. It sounds awesome. Most punk albums have half-assed production and sound compressed and flat. The songs themselves are pretty good and sometimes very good, the playing is great and the sound is amazing. If you're the "audio type" then it's worth listening to just because of how good it sounds.
Love Malcolm's wardrobe choice of the worldwide fashion trend of 1979-80 known as The Brights..bright colors indeed..Umm 1980 surely must go down as a tragic, but significant year musically. In many ways it signaled the end of eras (AC/DC, Joy Division & The Beatles), but also new beginnings (AC/DC Brian Johnston era & New Order) We lost Bon Scott, Ian Curtis, John Lennon and we lost Malcolm Owen. The very sad part about Malcolm's passing was the potential left behind..The music that remains is absolutely solid & ages so well..bloody heroin it's a vile drug..nothing hip about it at all...long live The Ruts
Loved the ruts dad got me into them they were on the go well before I was born could've been the best band if Malcom died 😢 rip Melcom Owen ,couldve been the best front man ever 💔 such a pity Herion takes so many life's what he left was brilliant just imagine what else could've been made 💔
Awesome. A british street punk band that make the Clash look like the Rubettes.I first heard them in 1978 and adored them from that moment. Yes, it's very sad that Malcolm Owen died tragically early in 1980 bt their legacy lives on. May I recommend 'In a Rut'? or 'Savage Circle'?
Could you imagine if Malcolm had managed to get clean - a Clash/Ruts super tour? Two punk bands that wore their reggae influences on their sleeves. Sadly, it wasn't meant to be. Hope Malcolm is jamming with St Joe in the great beyond.
The Crack is such a great album. Wonder what would’ve happened to them longer term with Malcolm. Ruts DC were unbelievably good supporting The Stranglers.
Such a waste of talent. The 80s heroin took many souls on top of the aids virus. Always find them on my playlists
Going to see them tonight! Get in!!!
💣
The Ruts would have been as big as the Clash had malcolm Owen not died. RIEP.

Great great band! What a waste, the singer blew it all taking drugs! So sad,
A group whos songs are still relevant in 2024. Best punk band ever imo
Rather apt today
Awful
Babylon's burning still "burning"
I don't remember The Ruts, but when I close my eyes I hear Generation X late 70s post punk
As time goes on this just gets better n fkn better - pure class !! 👍🏴
Could've been huge 😔
Great. They sound like a band from '77 even if they formed just in 1978
Masterpiece
Hell ain't a bad place to be!

Malcolm Owen, Ian Curtis, Bon Scott, John Bonham, Larry Williams, Darby Crash, and John Lennon. What a sad year 1980 was

Please give this underrated video and song a 4K upgrade!

Unfortunately he's dead now. Another waste of talent. One of the best punk bands ever next to SLF!
They don’t make music like this anymore
This Song Should Still Be Played In National And Local Radio In The Uk

Don't blame the ' Gear's I'm 58 and I'm not the first or last old Junky .
That guy's voice! still gets me 40 years later...
Do you think it was something that he said, all joking aside fantastic voice loved em
I don't hear any bands nowadays with a tenth of the attitude. The Ruts for life!!
Just incredible energy in this track. And that guitar sound 😊
Malcolm Owen was so ahead of his time. What a sad year 1980 was in terms of musician deaths
Like 4 espressos !... Heroin killed this band.
Fuckin loving this band. ❤
classic
👑👑
Amazing Band! Came Late! Went Early! RIP ( Silly Boy! YOU and the band had it ALL!) dx
I'm now 26, Malcolm's age at death My dad was born in 1953, same year as Malcolm. Wish he was still here at 70
Love the RuTs..Malcolm RIP

Is that a very young Sarah Lancashire playing the moll?
Good raucous punk single .shame malcombe put a bit to much in the pin and went over .

Top of the pile in Punk Bands (in my opinion).....guitar-playing is 2nd to none.

One of the absolute greats.
🖖👍🤙🏻📢🎼🎵🎶🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸❤
they'd left punk far behind by the time they made this video
