This is a 2016 Tundra with the 38 gallon tank and Flex Fuel Pump. The symptoms were hesitation and a feeling of misfires at low rpms under load and horrible gas mileage around 10mpg. The truck started and idled fine and had no check engine lights. After replacement everything is as smooth as the day I purchased the truck and I also had 15.2mpg on the first 140 mile round trip. Creaking and Popping Door When Opening and Closing - Door Check Replacement - Toyota Tundra

This applies to all makes and models. If you have popping and creaking when opening and closing your doors it's most likely either loose hinge bolts or the door check. The removal and installation is the same on most vehicles. Great video man! Can I find you on IG?
Thanks. I haven't been on IG in years. I just make these videos for fun. I think my IG is Tundratimeusa
Thank you for this video! I have a 2017 Tundra that stalled out on the highway. I was able to get the truck started again and drive home. Initially i experienced reduced power when i gave it gas but the problem seemed to go away and my mechanic could find any active diagnostic codes. Later that day it died again and had to be towed to my mechanic. He couldnt get it started and randomly it fired back up and now the problem seemed to go away. He had me take it to a Toyota dealership who spent 3 days with it and they told me they couldn't find the problem. Now 2 months later and i cant get it started again so im thinking about replacing the fuel pump myself. Both my mechanic and the dealership say they think it was a fuel pump or fuel pump module issue. edit* the dealership quoted me $2200 to replace both the fuel pump and the fuel pump module.
You're welcome. There was a huge recall on toyota fuel pumps and not only for the Tundra. I would replace the fuel pump first and see if it corrects it before you replace the control module. Also, right now my local dealer has 25% off parts so you can get the pump for around $340 or so depending if your flex fuel or not. Sale is thru 12/2/24 and here is the link autoparts.getteltoyotaoflakewood.com/?siteid=dmg_tpco_novoffer_email_autopoint
Oh thank God! I have a sequoia and I thought the parts were the same as the tundra and j ordered this white fan. Mine lasted… 6 years. Hopefully I get another 6 out of it 😂
What if you dont have a flash drive?
Thanks! It helped.
Awesome! It was driving me nuts. Glad it helped you.
I had to do this but on a 26.4 gallon tank on my 2012 Limited 4x4 Crewmax Flexfuel. I had to do this twice since my fuel sending unit stopped working after 2days so I had no fuel gauge.
Thank you Sir just saved me lots of time and money trying to figure out what that noise was.
Did you have to scuff the surface or can you spray 2K clear coat right over the powder coat without stuffing the surface
I did use a scotch brite pad very lightly to both clean and scuff the surface but nothing crazy as I was worried I would scratch through the black powder coat.
Why wouldn't he show us how to remove the cover.
I'm not a professional youtuber with mounts for my camera. I'm typically only able to film if I can use one hand. It takes two hands to push the clips in and pull down on that cover.
I have a 2015 TRD off-road Tundra bought new and I'm currently sitting at 407,000 miles on it still original fuel pump no issues mine is a flex fuel changed the starter last year for the first time and today changed the alternator for the first time a guy I know changed his fuel pump out on his Tundra and it was a lot easier just to remove the bed 6 bolts 2 wire harness clips couple screws around the filler cap hoist it up
Yep, some experience no problems. Lifting the bed wouldn't do you any good. The fuel pump is under the cab of the truck on Tundras. Are you sure your friend had a Tundra? Lifting the bed does work on other makes/models but not Tundras.
4 that’s crazy I’m on my 3rd one and that noise drives me crazy
Yeah.. Toyota builds great engines and transmissions but cheap out on everything else. I'm really liking this Sequoia motor so far. My local dealer has 25% off right now so you can get it delivered for around $116
@@tundratime941 I’ve already taken advantage of the 25% off I think I’ve ordered like $400 in parts right now I’m good now lol . I have a noise I’m trying to figure out popping sound on left hard turn or backing out low speed either CV joint or the bushings on top of my suspension. I’ve already ordered all of it
@@tundrav8georgia haha it adds up fast. Go to my channel and look for my video on the strut mount noise. Mine was an aftermarket coil over though.
Your dog was not even phased by you dropping the rack out snoozed the whole time
haha.. yeah he was worn out from watching the previous 8 hours of work to get to that point.
What radio is that?
That is a Dasaita. You can find them on Amazon for about $600. It's plug and play and you keep all steering wheel controls. Mine has been perfect over the 3 years I've had it.
Thanks!
Mines had an annoying squeak for afew years now, really loud in the winter. My trucks a 2014 and its the original blower motor. I think ill do this swap.
Yep, its probably that bearing going.
did the airflow increase?
In my opinion it really increased the air flow and volume. On some FB tundra groups others have said they couldn't tell a difference. One guy even got an annomometer and measured the difference and it was a 7.5% increase. To me it feels more than a 7.5% increase in air flow.
I remember doing my first one of these as a tech. I probably struggled to get that rack out of there for about 45 minutes. Now it comes right out. You sure made this thing look easy. Well done and excellent video.
Thank you for the compliment and comment. I see alot of people say they don't drop the front diff to do this job but that seems like a nightmare.
I have had the exact same issues not to Long ago first was fuel pump and just less than month was rack and pinion bushings. Also the fuel pump needs software update from Toyota otherwise with new fuel pump it will happen again. I have a 2017 Toyota tundra limited. Soon will have to replace driver side cover gasket is what is next. 😢
Everyone says "software" update but they are just resetting the fuel density readings for the Ethanol %. When the Ethanol % starts reading really high when using regular fuel it causes the extended crank issues everyone was having. This issue was not related to the extended crank problem that was common. This is just a POS designed fuel pump by Toyota.
As a follow up to this my Ethanol reading is now "0" all the time even with 10% ethanol gas. I'm never trying E85 so not sure what happens if you do with the new fuel pumps.
How did you go about resetting the fuel density reading after you replaced the pump?
@@colem1015 I didn't reset anything. I do have Techstream and I could reset fuel trim and density but its running perfect without doing that. It constantly is at 0% for ethanol even though I'm running 10% ethanol fuel.
@@tundratime941 gotcha! Dealer told me that my pump assembly needs replaced and would need programmed after new pump. They want 1650 for this. Seems a little outrageous in my opinion. I can replace the pump myself, just wondering if the reprogramming/flashing is really necessary or is the dealer trying to get one up on me.
I'm looking into buying a Tundra and this video has been a great help towards helping me with the decision if I feel like taking on someone else's headache.
Thanks for the comment. Check out my latest video on replacing the Flex Fuel Pump. Try to avoid getting an FFV Tundra if you can. Here is a link th-cam.com/video/B6jRlR8gbjw/w-d-xo.html

Where do you buy this Wifi M2.0 adapter?
Did you search it on amazon?
@@justindees29 What the name of this adapter?
What size engine do you have. I have a 2010 Tundra with 5.7 and I am having an issue getting replacement in. I had to remove the input shaft of the old one in order to get it out. Does anyone have any suggestions for me. I feel I have to either lift engine up or remove oil filter housing but even then Im not sure any comments would be greatly appreciated.
This is the 5.7. Did you watch the full video? You have to remove the front differential to get the rack out if yours is a 4x4.
Thank you for posting this video. I have a 2wd Tundra so I was able to skip the diff drop, but the section on the hydraulic lines really helped me get over a hurdle. Bushings replaced, alignment done, truck is better than when I got it. (I bought it used with unknown steering damage).
That awesome new! Yes, the 2wd is so much easier lol. I'm glad the video helped.
How are they holding up? I have the exact same set of rims with the same problem.
It's only been about three months but they look great after every wash still. Definitely worth it for the low cost.
Just drop the cradle and that’s it
Wonder if this can be done with without removing the diff if I’m lifted 6”. I’d prob take the inner tie rods off cause it’s quick and easy, less hassle getting the rack in and out that way. But I don’t have anyone to help me do my work so I look for little things to help me lol. I did my full lift install alone, that front diff can be a pain in the ass. What works well is a motorcycle jack! I’m lucky to have one.
You sure it's not your FK uni-ball on the uca?
This particular noise was from the strut mount but later on my uniball ended up being lose in the socket on the UCA and Tuff Country replaced both UCA's under the lifetime warranty.
@@tundratime941 Yeah, in the video what kind of looks like? The uniboll was shifting side to side my long travel buggy had same issue
Man, first of all thank you very much, you are the only reason my Stream is still functional, I had never heard of Refind before. Still, I cannot manage to get it to boot without the USB stick. I've got Windows installed on the new SSD, the internal eMMC formatted and assigned a letter, I copied the EFI folder from the USB stick to the eMMC and it still doesn't boot from the new SSD without the stick inserted. With the stick inserted everything works just fine, but upon powering up the PC without it inserted all I see is a black screen telling me to install on operating system as none was found. How do you did you format the eMMC? How did you copy the EFI folder in it after formatting? Simple drag and drop or you used some tool? Also, what does your boot order look like in your BIOS? Cheers man
On power up start tapping the ESC key to Enter BIOS check and see if Legacy Boot is Enabled ( Default is Disabled ), if Disabled, Enabled. After restart and on power up tap F9 for Boot Order, if the laptop is booting fine from USB and not from the drives, USB may still be set as Priority Boot Device. Just a Thought, but in any case I am just under taking this Upgrade this weekend, I will have a video of my progress and I hope I have gathered all the information from all the videos I have seen.
@@BudgetBuildBarry Thank you for your response mate. After writing this comment I did enable legacy boot and moved the USB down in the boot priority order, but that didn't affect the problem. It's still booting fine with the usb stick inserted and not finding an OS without the stick. Something is preventing the rEFInd install on the eMMC from booting and for the life of me I cannot understand what it is. I'll be following your progress to see if we can sort it out, for sure! What exact model do you have? Mine is the ax011nl, the one with the N3060, 32 GB eMMC and 4 GB of RAM which I upgraded to 8 GB, and that works just fine despite the mobo documentation saying 4 GB was the maximum. Both the original and the upgraded sticks are rated for 1866 MHz, but they both run at 1600 MHz and there is no way to overclock it from the BIOS, which is already quite weird in itself: why would they ship a 1866 stick that only runs at 1600? Bah...
@@Vercingetorix45 HP Stream 14 ax030ca, the upgrade I am doing is battery swap (swollen battery 6 year old), M.2 to NVME Adapter, 480 GB SSD, WIFI/BT Dongle. That looks... So rustic
what is the blue gauge next to the key switch on the dash, and where did you get it? Cart looks really good, I'm currently debating on what color to paint my ezgo. The cement grey looks really good.
That guage just shows the battery level as a percentage 0-100% charged. I used a color chip book to pick the color and it's actually Hitachi Grey but it looks just like cement. Thanks for watching
Hi Thank you for putting this video. what was the part number and the where did you source the universal u-bolt joint for the steering column?
There is a link to the rack bushings in the description. Here is where I purchased the steering shaft www.ebay.com/itm/394742887206
Mine does the same thing. It moves like that. I thought that was normal. So I have to do the same thing?
Well you don't have to do it but if you're having a hard time with alignments or there are noises that are bothering you it's a good idea to replace them. In the description I have a link to the video of the entire process to remove the rack and replace the bushings.
What did you have into the rebuild?
It's been a while but I think we had about $3,200 or so into parts/materials. Batteries and wheels/tires accounted for $1,800 of the cost.
Question you said have the refind installed you mean on the laptop or have it installed on the flash drive ? Also was just wounding do I have to take off the 2 wifi cords to do this ?
The Wifi antenna can stay in place, you only need to detach them from the network card, they simply plug/unplug like a snap button
Get usb wifi adapter
I keep getting a hard drive not detected error after installing windows 11. Then it just loops back into the windows 11 installer.
Your control arm is hitting the spring.
I appreciate the comment but the UCA was no where near the spring during normal driving. It was the upper strut mount rubber bushing that was dry rotted as I show in the video.

I’m having the same problem and I can’t get the refind program to download and be functional
Good video
Very impressive job! Excellent description of work required! Adorable golden retriever!
The golden is so chill......He slept right through the dropping of the rack, lol.
I don’t know why people insist on doing this job without pulling the front differential. It just seems like it would be so painful to do with the diff in the way. I replaced my rack and honestly dropping a differential was only about 30 minutes worth of work I couldn’t imagine trying to work around it to replace some bushings or something
Maybe because they don't want the diff to leak after all that work?
@@Paco53 It's easy and like I said at the end of the video just drain the diff before you even start this project. Then just refill at the end. This was my first time doing this entire project so I learned alot and I would be much faster and efficient the next time.
Hopefully there is not going to be a next time.. I bought my truck knowing it would need a new rack, I'm truly worried about this project, but I guess I will learn a New thing or two.. thanks for the helpful video
@@Paco53 Just follow my video step by step and you'll be able to replace that rack no problem! I'm here if you get stuck
Great video! I might have missed it but you I did need to remove drivers outer tie rod. FYI
Worked perfectly for me. Bought the wrong adapter and ssd. Windows setup won't recognize Msata drives, so I had to use an NVMe drive instead. A few important things to note is that when you format the old EMMC drive, you must use the FAT32 file system and legacy support must be enabled in BIOS. Took some troubleshooting, but I'm pretty sure this is what you need to do in order for this method to work.
Did you have to pull the rack? And did it fix the popping? Currently going through the same issue I think
I'm about to do this myself next week because no shops seem to understand you can do this without removing the rack. 4 wheel parts quoted $600 but they've never done it this way. They just replace the whole rack.
