So true.
dam i have a k&n air filter in mines😮 switching back to oem tommorow
if you don't clean and maintain them ....
porperly cleaned and maintained they still let dirt through, oem filters can be COMPLETELY neglected and not pass dirt. no argument can be made for this.
I have K&N air filters on my 2005 Honda CBR1000RR and I check them every time I do an oil change because I like to keep my bike running at peak performance. I went almost 4000 miles before I cleaned the filters the last time because I was in a hurry to change the motor oil and skipped the air filter cleaning. By that time, the oil filters we very grimmy and full of dirt. I can not even imagine how the air filters will look if I went over 6000 miles without cleaning them. Also, I get a very good seal with my K&N air filters in the air box because it is almost dust free in there. I also do my best not to over oil the air filters. Long story short, don't use any air filter that does not give you a good seal and always change or clean the air filter as often as possible for peak performance and engine longevity.
Iv been using k&n air filter for about 6 months now took it off to look at it and no dirt or debris has past through? I dont get it there’s nothing wrong with it the in takes are spotless clean
you didnt mention the bike model, you should check out all of my other EDUCATIONAL videos. take note i dont show any bikes with oem filters that have dirt past them.
@@patrickscycleshop its a 2023 gsxr 750 just took the filter out to check it was a couple bugs trapped in it and no dirt has passed thrroigh
@fizzy_b8532 conditions are also subject to question. I work on bikes in the sandhills of north Carolina in town. Every car kicks up sand in the air, this suspended sand goes directly into the airbox. Its an abusive environment. also depends on where you ride. Bugs in the filter implies you ride at night on backroads possibly with minimal suspended dirt. Consider that also.
I have a k and n that I bought the bike with. Runs too lean, I'm bailing on them going back stock. Rebuilt carbs with new parts the lownend off idle is horrid.
ni da ye de !!!
Hello I have problems also with my zx10r 2008. The thing is everytime I shift up to 6th gear my bike just revving and the gear indicator just starts to randomly change to any numbers or neutral but I could still down gear back to 5,4,3,n,1 it just fine.. and right there I dont know whats the problem I'm assuming its the clutch but when I watch your video, it might be also the shiffting mechanism.
Seller: K5 GSXR 750 FOR SALE. mint! Never raced. Buyer: what type of filter? Seller: only the best K&N Buyer: She is pretty!!! but I will keep looking. Good luck with the sale
Man. Imagine how many bikes when buying used had aftermarket filters???
Wow. I learned so much. Only oem filters for me
Its user preference. A full set of Hayabusa fairings are overly fucking expensive and the aftermarket ABS fairings i bought were maybe not quite as flexible as the OEM but i also haven't dropped or wrecked the bike in the over six years i have had them on it so they are not broken at all. No cracks or chips, not warping or melting. I dont pretend to believe they are as good as OEM but they do the job more than satisfactory for the price.
I just changed my clutch and my bike keeps dropping down to 3rd from 4th can this be the issue?
That what I'm trying to say from long time 👏
Hey I have Kawasaki 2003 636cc every gear work perfect, but 3rd gear doesn’t work. It will downshift and upshift into 3rd but bike wont work in 3rd gear. What could be the issue?
Probably broken dog teeth
Previously I mentioned the dirt looks like it came from a seal leak. My opinion hasn’t changed. That said, I do agree that K&N do a poor job of filtering larger micron dirt out. They’re great in clean air environments. But not in any usage where dust is a consideration.
reasonable debate that is. i always inspect the integrity on the installation and the seal, if that was wrong and the filter was incorrectly installed i disregard the dirt ingestion as operator error, however in all my videos the installation was correct and there was no seal dirt bypass. everything in video went through filter. you're mostly right about the clean environment issue such as a dragstrip but for street use especially in the sandhills of north Carolina, they fail.
I recently watched a couple of videos where K&N produced the most power. The bad news is it does this by having larger air passages than filters like a Fram. After I was aware of this, I threw my Tacoma and Subaru K&Ns in the trash where they belong.
wisdom speaks by your actions.
if u did rock bcm should u just clean every 2k miles?
conflict of interest on that advice, im biased and would only advise the use of oem filters.
This guy got faulty filter or not properly installed. Mine inside after filter are sparkling clean. Make sure you install it correctly.
Wasn’t planning on ripping them apart, but good show 👊🏻

I've seen this plenty of times. All that oil is from the breather hose. Probably because he did the oil change himself and put a little too much oil in the sump. I agree K&N dont filter as well as OEM filters. Street use = OEM filter
Ive seen this plenty of times also, every time was only on engines equipped with these poor air filters. EVERYTIME!! its not the oil. its the dirt. pay attention, open your eyes and dont fall prey to the succesful marketing ploys of a multi billion dollar corporation in the business to SELL air filters. the excess oil is most likely the by product of excess compression blowby past the dirt ingestion damaged piston rings and scratched cylinder walls.
Yes you should. Fairings are cosmetic, and if you are looking for a different look or full replacement, it makes more sense to go aftermarket than OEM. There are companies that make quality fairings for a fraction of the cost of OEM. If you have the money and are willing to spend them on OEM, more power to you. The fact of the matter is, if you lay your bike down, OEM fairings with crack and damage just as much as aftermarket. In the end, you're still going to have to replace them. Literally no one's bike is going to twist and torque like your demonstration. I have used fairings from AMOTOPARTS, AUCTMARTS, and Monster Fairings. All worked very well, fit was good, and the paint and quality was great. While I'm sure this guy offers good advice, I think in this instance his advice is poor. Even more so when you consider he didn't offer a cost effective alternative to damaged OEM fairings.
In the 35 years I've been working on motorcycles, I've never seen one single aftermarket fairing that's remotely close to the quality of OEM. Not even close. The tabs break off easily if they even line up in the first place, the paint chips off easily. Under heat, the lower and side fairings warp up extremely bad making for an even worse fit.
There is no cost-effective alternative to OEM. If you want good quality parts buy OEM. Most mechanics with any kind of experience hate to see a bike with aftermarket fairings come in for an oil change. That's where the problems start, the installer might have got them on the bike but now because of the crappy quality they have worked up under the heat. When you pull the Fasteners out you aren't getting them back together. That's if you don't break tabs off when you take them apart. Never, ever have this problem with OEM
I like good information an i could tell soon as you started talking you know what you're talking about i have a question i just got a 05 r1 the guy said nothing wrong with the bike 2 days into having it i decided to start tinkering with it what i found was the oil fill cap and timing chain window cap where covered in snotty thick cream oil and its all on the inside of the clutch cover case oil you can see in the sight glass doesn't look bad but im in fear of whats going on im assuming oil/water pump
water pump is a possibility on that one. i would repeatedly change the oil and see if it reappears. its possible it could just be condensation due to improper storage.
@@patrickscycleshopyeah that is a good idea thank you very much ill give that a try
😮 Thank you ! I had no idea. Now I now
So I was doing a oil change on my 04 r1 and when I put the drain bolt back on it wouldn’t tighten and when I took it out I seen metal shavings on the bolt from that came from screwing it on when it wouldn’t tighten. What do you suggest I do plsss
Order a new pan and bolt, a new gasket, and do this. After you’ve installed them, pour oil slowly into the filling hole until you don’t see anymore shavings.
I agree with replacing the oil pan.
@@patrickscycleshophey boss I see when you were putting on the oil pan that you had the pan with the drain tube already in it. Mine does not come out and is inside the bike? Does that matter or why is mine like that
Then what's the best company for aftermarket fairings
AUCTMARTS, AMOTOPARTS, Monster Fairings. Literally no one's bike will twist and torque like he demonstrated. Fairings are cosmetic. Whether OEM or aftermarket, if you lay your bike down, they will take significant damage.
Proves nothing. Did owner ever clean the airbox? Even after changing to a K&N filter. They don't void factory warranty. Can't be all that bad.
Some things don't have to be proven however circumstantial evidence is enough to convict. As a 35 year experienced shop owner i never see this dirt with OEM,.. I ALWAYS see this dirt with K&N. the product itself doesnt cause engine damage therefore they arent liable for any damage that is caused by dirt passing through, you cant charge dirt particles in a court of law. I was defeated in court by this argument 30 years ago. Sorry you willl lose this argument with me too. justy open your eyes and dont be prey to the successful marketing ploiys by these major corporations. just search for yourself, youll find more than enough laboratory tests that prove k&n doesnt stopp ALL dirt (96.8% by their claims) that 3.2 % is substantial. that is what you see in this video.
I've been using k&n filter on my 2017 r6 since 2017. I change the oil every season then I change the filter a week or two after in case the dealer add too much oil (which happen once, there was a little oil on the filter). But there has never been any dirt or oil build up in my air box to this day. The only thing special I do is keep an extra filter and clean and oil it weeks before I put it in. But I'll take this info into consideration.
Sweet buggy next time announce the price in you dialogue ❤🔧🔧🔧🔧
I have a 2012 Kawasaki ex650 that shifts into first and back up to neutral will not go back neutral
Wow mind blowing
This is not valid, most modern motorcycles uses the k&n air filter style, from factory...not paper like cars
FALSE INFORMATION!! Do not believe this commenter. check your sources. Pull the airbox off your new modern motorcycle and you will find the same filter on your 2024 Japanese Sport as you will on most 1990 era Japanese sportbikes except some kawasaki and Yamaha that used OILED foam elements. NO Japanese manufacturer EVER used ANY wire/mesh/ guaze like K&N, NEVER.

Ill never, ever believe that a properly oiled foam filter wil EVER pass ANY dirt EVER at all, NEVER. sorry, you must have not serviced them correctly. @@pablocarballeira4443
yeah I have the same problem, I'm going to have to buy the expensive fuel injectors and spend all day replacing them unfortunately.
Biggest POS we have ever owned, no way any vehicle should have this failure this bad this soon. Honda should do a recall on these vehicles. daughter drives this car for 20 miles. throws a cel , she has to reboot the system, and it drives another 20 miles. we arent alone you and I, this is a honda wide problem.
Did it worked?? @grant9047
@@Prongedcloverwhat I did instead of the expensive repair is I added fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank and that worked and I started using a higher grade of gas 89 and that made a big difference also. No warning lights anymore.
Have a V-strom 1000 2015, i done 200 miles of dirt road, very sandy one , with my friend in front receiving a lot of dust..........well it pass through my k&n filter like crazy...... Never again if you do a lot of dirt road .........
Good to see you have seen the light before it was too late. Some believe, some argue, some defend a product that clearly does not provide adequate protection.
TRUST THE SCIENCE they say; www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html
That filter has no oil, what do you expect
sorry buddy, thats not an argument youll win with me. EVERY bike that comes through my service dept (31 Years in business) that has a k&n filter even with as low as 4,000 miles wil have an unaccceptable anount of large partticles past the filter. K&n only claims their filters stop 96.9% of contaminants. the il will get sucked out of their filters at a real low mileage interval on motorcycles.
you think im a young guy with no experience?? K&N filters give a false sense of security believing they are the best filters on earth? copied and pasted from K&N website; recently K&N changed this from "clean every 50,000 miles" to this; "With normal use, they can go up to 50,000 miles before a cleaning is needed"
open your eyes, dont be a sheep and fall for advertisement manipulation, i did for years. When i realized 30 years ago that they werent stopping the dirt I paid them to, i fired them after an engine i built prematurely developed oil consumption problems, upon disassembly i dicovered scratches on the pistons and cylinders. that opened my eyes to a 3o year disaproval of the poor job K7n does to protect my investment.
Dont Believe my opinion? I dont have anything to gain or lose by winning you over to my opinion. trust the science they say.. here is JUST ONE of the articles i refer to with my students and apprentices; just go search... independent k&n filter testing, youll find more than enough info to back me up. still disagree? fine, buy their expensive air filters. .www.nicoclub.com/archives/kn-vs-oem-filter.html
Thank you for the info
what's the tyre dimensions? thank you
every time a get the itch to get a DNA filter for my Triumph a take a look at this video as a reminder.
Wise Person. Thanks for the positive feedback.
Isn't this test about K&N?
Honestly K&N filters are amazing but we as riders need to do our part. I know K&N say on their website that they need to be cleaned every 25000 mile but be realistic, that's just marketing bs. I clean mine every time i do a oil change. Yup that's right i clean the hell out of it and oil it. If you start with the air filter first then change the bikes oil you can leave the air filter to dry (i like to leave mine on top of a fan to dry faster). For cars you make such an insignificant gain from having a high performance air filter that it really doesn't matter but on a bike it makes a huge difference. Now i am a mechanic and this isn't me talking out of my ass, if you want to run a K&N air filter your going to have to put the work in and maintain that filter. Also you are going to need to get a tune or have a power commander so that the bike doesn't run lean. Also the many people i see in the comments complaining that the K&N air filter is way dirtier than the original paper filter i would like for you to understand that the oil on these filters catches more particles than you understand. But like in the video here there is dirt all inside the air box, well that's because the owner didn't clean and oil the filter resulting in a filter that wasn't able to catch the dirty particles.
Totally agreed I clean mine every 6 months, car and bike, cheers!!!
Finally someone that understands and speaks the truth. Another variable than I don't see mentioned in any of the comments is that we simply don't know where the owner of this bike lives and drives. If you live in a dusty or forest like environment, a high flow air filter might maybe just not be the best option for your bike.
It amazes me that there are people out there that will acknowledge K&N filters are higher flowing and let more air into the engine, yet somehow, do not let in more dirt than OEM! Obviously if it let's in more air, it will let in more debris. At the track where every HP counts, fine, that is why drag cars don't run filters at all. But 90% of people buying K&N are using them mostly on the street. Project Farm did a great video actually testing the amount of particles K&N filters let in a controlled environment, and they let in almost twice the amount of what a cheap paper filter let in. If a 1-2% HP gain is worth engine damage then go for it. But don't expect it to be just as protective AND have more performance, it is an obvious trade off.
You ain't damaging anything. Ran k&n with cars over 100k miles no issues
Thanks for a very informative video. Had a k&n filter on my xjr1300 for thousands of miles and no problem. But, fitted to my recently acquired r1250gs and it stated to pink. ( Always 98 octane fuel ) changed it back to the OEM paper filter and pinking gone. Don't understand as the mixture is handled by the ECU according to the mapping. Well, so I've read.
THANK YOU for this informative video!!
Torque specs please 🙏
keep posting this series! i rebuild engines to and this is always the issue with aftermarket highflowing filters, unless you really need those 2-5hp gains, and enjoy spending money for rebuilds, then by all means use those "performance" filters on normal daily usage, LoL
Is it available.... location and price
