    I cancelled my adult and ya subs last year because I felt the book selections just weren’t good! And then for several months (or it seemed that way) they did the cover art on the stenciled edge. And I hate that! Do something else! My last adult book was Shanghai Immortal which I’m very excited to read. I started it once and I was enjoying it, but I’m a mood reader and something else caught my eye. For the YA sub, some of the picks were letting me down, but it was mostly the editions that had me cancelling my sub. I wanted to cancel my YA box after I received the disappointing June box. But they were boasting “This edition is very unique and different from our norm!” Once I received my book I was disappointed AF! They had done all the elements before so I don’t get how they could even say this. I hate when they just flat out lie about what to expect in a book or their items. The prior month was Sing me to Sleep and they promised “This edition looks like the sea in book form and we love it.” Don’t make that kind of promise if you can’t pull through. I was so upset. I love the ocean and mermaids and sirens. This edition was pathetic. I’m subscribed to the Romantasy box. The first book is out for delivery today! I have high hopes because the editions and selections of both adult and ya have been so much better this year! And this will be my only subscription.

    these reviews are really showing me how much i read these book out of order/ skipped books because my school library didn't have all of them. while the first series was definitely the best, i really think i remember the characters from the third series the best, especially with the blind medicine cat (i don't remember his name) and the specials. my favorites were always yellowfang's special and the SkyClan special (i think that was the first one i read). the scenes with the rats in that one terrified me

    23:20 Honestly, the ages of the cats confuse me, like I never thought about this cause I always saw Fireheart and Cinderpaw more as a parent/uncle and daughter dynamic, like I idk when I stopped seeing Cinderpaw as a kit (even though that she was already the medicine cat)

    I LOL as I watched what you packed. You had so many more pieces than I would think anyone would need for ten days. Are you unable to do any laundry on your trips? I didn't see you mention your outer layers, didn't you need waterproof layers, a wind layer? I'm going mid may through July and i'm only taking a travel capsule hiking wardrobe that is fully half of what you packed. Did you find you over-packed? Also that dirty clothes bag is usually for dirty and one side is for wet, like towels, swimsuits.

    • @aims2859
      @aims2859 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We did not have access to laundry at any of the places we stayed and did not want to waste hours of a day doing laundry somewhere else. I'm glad that you are taking only a travel capsule, everyone should do what works best for them and this worked perfectly for me based on the things we planned on doing. I did have a raincoat too.

    Hey! Really nice video! Kinda glad youtube has started pushing videos with less views to my recommended. I am kind of surprised to see you don't get more views cause I really like your editing style :) - Interesting take on shipping Cinderpelt and Fireheart😅 I've always felt a little iffy about romantic mentor-apprentice relationships since it sort of mirrors a real life teacher-student dynamic, so I always saw them more as a brother-sister duo. Also, would love if you made a part 2 on the super editions! I also always thought the lake territory is worse than the forest, so would love a summary of one or more of the prequels! Might join you in reading the books again too. Watching the video I realized just how little I actually remember...😅 (Btw. You earned yourself a sub ;)

    So glad this was recommended to me! I’m also doing a Warriors reread right now, I made a video review, and I’ve been slowly descending into the community for months… maybe you’ll be joining me in that 😅 Few notes: -Graystripe’s mom is Willowpelt, which is a retcon only mentioned in a book from 2021. His dad has never been (correctly) identified. The authors absolutely did not plan for the original apprentices’ parents which led to a lot of problems in the prequels. -I was also very annoyed by the long lead up in Forest of Secrets! But I don’t remember ever being annoyed with it when I read these books as a kid. Maybe it’s obvious now because we know the twist. -Cinderpaw getting her full name was mentioned, but medicine cats have their ceremony at the Moonstone, so it happened off page and didn’t have that much attention drawn to it -Loving your Tress bookmark! That book is way far down my reading list right now but hopefully I’ll get to it this year 😅 -Very good point about the dog pack, I have no idea how that happened… -I think you might be thinking of Jayfeather from arc 3 as a reluctant medicine apprentice, but I haven’t gotten to arc 3 in my reread yet so I’m not completely sure if that’s accurate -Firestar is obsessed with Spottedleaf because one of the authors is really into it, so any books in this era which she was heavily involved with have that stamp on them. I and most people seem to agree that it’s pretty uncomfortable, and it’s especially weird in the Firestar super edition, unfortunately I hope you choose to read Bluestar’s Prophecy and more! The first arc is absolutely the best I’ve read so far but you might find some gems in unexpected places. Sorry for the extremely long comment 😅 regardless you’ve got my sub

    • @aims2859
      @aims2859 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I figured out the Willowpelt thing after stalking the wiki haha! I think I will definitely make a part 2 with the next arc. I've been listening to Midnight on audiobook which is a bit of a different experience 😅 Somehow Graystripe now has a lisp lol

  • @CathenaReads
    @CathenaReads 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    completely agree with you! I only joined their sub list in March of 2023 and the majority of their book picks this year have been really underwhelming imo. Also agree that basically they give us a meh book with a pretty cover (when it has a pretty cover/edges 🥲), but the books that people are excited for they usually save them for the fairy trove. I also don't like that they only give us 4 skips every 12 months, but for example with Ilumicrate we can skips 10/12 months in the year. I skipped both Dec and Jan, but I'm getting the Feb book. If it is another Sword Catcher case with meh customizations and character on the cover, I'll 100% cancel my subscription

  • @mintyxx1
    @mintyxx1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    FairyLoot was one of the first subscription boxes that I canceled and haven't looked back. While I enjoy a fair amount of their book selections, their customizations are subpar. If I want FairyLoot energy, I will turn to Illumicrate (which looks to have better picks in 2024). If you want more of the adult end, then Bookish Box's regular Bookish Box subscription (not Darkly) is the one that I would recommend. But to be chill with Bookish Box, you need to be okay with not getting the book for several months. (They're catching up, but they're not there yet.) Overall Fae Crate and Illumicrate have surpassed FairyLoot as far as I'm concerned.

    • @isi__1
      @isi__1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aims2859 It's actually not all that bad. I signed up to the waitlist at the end of May and I got one invite in December for the Hanged God trilogy. I just received the first book, Northern Wrath, yesterday. It was quite a suprise. I was absolutely expecting to be on the waitlist for AT LEAST a year or two, before being able to subscribe. So, I was quite excited to be receiving an invite this "early". For Fairyloot, I've used my first skip of the year on the January book. I'm planning to get February and possibly March. After that, I'm not gonna be very conservative with the skips. If the book doesn't sound to my taste, I'm not gonna get it. As soon as I run out of skips for the year, I'm gonna cancel. I've been a FL adult subscriber since they started it in March 2022. I was always holding back on cancelling, because I didn't want to lose early access privileges for the books I'm actually excited for in their separate SE sales. I'm starting to be quite fed up at this point. Especially because I'm now subbed to Broken Binding, there's a very good chance I'm not going to be subbed to Fairyloot for much longer.

    I wouldn't worry too much about being completely unique and original. Readers don't want that. They want a slightly different take on something familiar. Your personality, your experiences, the way you perceive the world add one layer of different. The personalities of your characters and the way they clash add the next. If you really want to go crazy, you can start (carefully) subverting tropes or borrowing subplots form other genres. I'm an advocate of writing the fun books. If we're enjoying creating them, I think it ups our odds of readers loving them. If you haven't found these resources yet on YT, here are some of my favourites: Alyssa Matesic - has experience in trad publishing, posts about querying and how to make your stories stronger. Becca Syme - her focus is on how writers can build a sustainable career without constantly fighting against the way our minds want to work. There's a lot of contradictory writing advice, and her videos have helped me differentiate between what I should be paying attention to, and what I should be ignoring. 20booksto50K - This is the ultimate self-pub resource. They hold conferences, tape the sessions, and post them to YT. They have a good mix of craft, productivity, marketing and genre specific panels. The Self-Publishing Formula - SPF has a weekly podcast where James Blatch interviews a different author each week. He usually likes to cover what they find works for them, key elements for their genres, and their individual writing processes. Occasionally they also interview different author services. Hello Future Me - This channel's mostly craft. He goes really in depth on world building, and I love his video on Show Don't Tell (is a lie).
