This wonderful set of variations, based on the Dutch version of the Magnificat, gives splendid opportunity to hear the Dutch inspired principal choruses and mutations on our rather versatile organ. I first heard David Poulter play this live on Radio 3 many years ago and was immediately gripped by it, but only recently got around to buying the (difficult to source) score.

Amazing Improvisation (as always), Will (or are) any of your improvisations transcribed?
@@Jonathan-jw4uu many thanks - I don’t tend to transcribe them as it takes so long to do.
Brilliant …. As per usual!!!!!

Love the big finish (and I bet Stanford would, too...!)

BRAVO John - such excitement - I love this, and your fiery playing on the amazing Blackburn instrument is inspirational!
Thanks so much, Jerry - it's a fun play!
What a beautiful impressionistic collection of music. As a Dutchman I didn’t know this composer until I heard your amazing performance. bravo!
Many thanks, indeed!
This is so beautiful!!! Bravo John!!! Wonderfully written and a fabulous performance. Heavenly!
Cheers, Jerry!
Wonderful John - I will listen to it in full asap 😃. And wonderful position for the organ and organ console - I would love that 🙂!

Wow! John, that was some organ improvisation.
Many thanks!
Wonderful! Thank you for composing and playing "outside the box". The performance by the choir was lovely.
Many thanks!
Many thanks for playing my composition so well! I feel honoured.
Many thanks - it’s a fab work and one I really enjoy playing!
Hi John I really enjoyed your recital and would like to ask you where your monitor is to display the stops etc? Very best wishes Dr. Marc B. Barker-Naylor
Hi, many thanks for that and glad you enjoyed it. The monitor was behind the music desk, although I'm now using two touch screens.
John, thank you for sharing these new compositions. They are quite amazing!
Many thanks!
It’s amazing that a 13 year old can write such extended, developed music for organ. Fantastic that her piece is played so beautiful by you John!
Absolutely - it's very impressive! Thanks very much!
Hi John, thank you for showcasing these two remarkable compositions, BRAVO! And a special thanks to @grahamtwist a wonderful modern composer and friend! Thank you so much for sharing this with us on the other side of the world, take care John from Australia
Many thanks indeed!
My goodness, what a quality in compositions, performance and sound. I’m happy for both composers but especially for Graham. And not only for him, for us all. Because… now he can’t deny any longer that he is an excellent composer who writes both interesting and beautiful music. Personally I’m more into his more meditational compositions, but he certainly masters this style as well!
Congratulations Graham!🎹
Amazing Performance, especially like Graham Twist Composition. Is this Blackburn cathedrals version of "call for composers"?
Many thanks - yes, it is! We are running a series of competitions over the next couple of years.
This sent me to heaven hearing this. I actually know Dan Miller from ages back. Beautiful. His other arrangement of “How Great Thou Art”. Really takes advantage of the high pressure reeds of the organ.
Many thanks - I don’t know the arrangement of HGTA - will have to look it up!
Follow that! Terrific.
Many thanks!
A beautiful arrangement - I love playing that. Which organ are you using there?
Many thanks - it’s the Salisbury sample set.
Fascinating dramatic music. It was equally fascinating to read about Guy Weitz and his life and find out that his most famous student was Nicholas Danby. He visited Vilnius once with masterclasses when I was a student.
Awesome John! Organ and organist at one here. I confess to not knowing this piece, but it sounds like I very much want to know it!
Cheers, Richard - it’s such a good work. I don’t play the second symphony which is much harder but that’s also worth looking at.
Another well done from me. ❤
Many thanks, Nigel!
Brilliant performance. A mighty organ, masterfully tamed! Keep up the good work.
Many thanks!
What an AMAZING performance! This work reminds me of Jongen, and the capabilities of Blackburn suit it well, even down to the strongly keening Swell strings (I usually prefer hearing Blackburn's broader/rounder strings in the Solo division, but the sharper Swell strings were perfect in this case).
Many thanks, Bill - glad you enjoyed It!
Oh my! Oh my! I warm to that piece very much indeed. Super composition that kept my total attention throughout EVEN whilst enjoying my chicken broth soup and Scottish oak cakes on my sofa. 🤣 Sounds absolutely amazing on the mighty Walker. Congratulations to you John for learning it and getting truly involved in all of its musically sensitive moments. Well done to the nervous state of your page ‘presser’ overlooking the Cornish octopus in full action. Well done to Guy (where ever you are), for dreaming up this incredible piece.
Cheers, Maurice - it’s a splendid piece and lots of fun to play.
Amazing Peformance
many thanks!
Beautiful piece on a great hymn. Thank you John
Many thanks!
A fantastic organ, very beautiful and great music, a pleasure to listen to! Best regards, Roland
Many thanks!
Oh my, your new console is looking amazing. I'm hoping you're really pleased with it. Didn't you say Graham Eccles was helping with the build? Great piece too and beautifully played John.
Cheers, Maurice - yes Graham built it all - very nicely done indeed!
Great is thy faithfulness was a favourite hymn of my late Nana. I heard you play this at Wesley, at the Chester Cathedral and now here. It moves me each time John.
Many thanks, Nigel!
Nicely played. A sweet tune... to which I'm not familiar. It has an air of a hymn... is it ?
Many thanks - it’s based on the hymn “Great is thy faithfulness”.
Congratulations on the new console. This is fantastic and so wonderful to see and hear. Looking forward to more uploads!
Cheers, Jerry!
