Today I talk about weighing your Garage Door to order the right torsion spring. Sometimes your door is heavy like a rock at the bottom or Fast like a rocket at the top of the opening. What does this mean. You probably have the incorrect torsion spring. You want your door to balance and work smoothly from open to close. A improper balanced door will wear your garage door opener out faster and can be just dangerous to use by hand. We use the door weigh, drum size (there is a number on the drums) size of the door to determine the correct spring. Disclaimer the tension must be off the springs, either by using a winding bar to backwind the spring. In my case the spring was already broken.#diy #tutorial #diyproject

Hello, Thanks for your post. I am replacing the current cable that is 8' 6" or 101". What size cable should I buy? 8' or 9' feet.. Thank you for any help
Thank you for your response James. you should be a cable that is 8'6" in length which is for a 7' high garage door. However you could also instead a 9'6" cable as well. the longer cable may require you to add 2 more quarters or 1/2 turn to balce your door. Thanks Darren

Keep your fingers away from set screws. Also, looks like spring is oiled so you don't need to stretch it out too much.
Using drummer sticks works just as good as the metal rods to adjust tension spring. They fit in holes perfectly.
