DIY adventures in our beloved 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ80
Swapping my headlights out for LED Holley Retrobrights! What a difference! | ASMR DIY Project
My OEM 4x6 Halogen sealed bulbs were not doing the job. My high beams were not working and i kept burning through fuses and relays because they drew too much power, all while being no brighter than a gas lantern from the 1800s. I had been holding off on making the swap to LED's because I hated the look of the modern LED options out there. Even if the housing looked ok, the light color was 5600k; wayyyy too blue and modern for this old rig.
@HolleyPerformance Holley Retrobrights are the answer! You'd never know they are LED from looking at them, on or off, however; the performance is as good as any other LED. They are essentially plug and play with different options depending on your vehicle. I needed to utilize the Ground Switch Harness in order to convert them because these old Toyotas are ground switched. I also had to switch around some wire in said harness to get the polarity correct. All in all; easy peasy.

A quick 24 hour trip to the desert to see the wildflower bloom and find some peace and quiet. We were also testing out the newly build bed platform to work out any kinks before Baja. In all: huge success!
HUGE UPGRADE to stiffen the Land Cruiser pop top bed: ASMR DIY project!
มุมมอง 1.7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
For this project I am tackling rebuilding the bed platform in the pop top. Why? Well, the platform that we initially installed was an old design and is as flimsy as it is heavy. It's thin z channel aluminum framed around 1/2in plywood, so it beds quite a bit, especially when there is two adults up there. I also feel like there is room to improve the utility by splitting the rear section into tw...

It's FINALLY DONE...ish. Part 04 of 04 shows me finishing the 'utilities' side of the buildout. This bench is where i will keep the power distribution, air compressor, tools, etc. Plus I mounted the modular Aluboxes on top to work as out kitchen and counter-space opposite the bench. I wired up the 120Ah battery to the National Luna DC25 smart charger and distribution box and tidied everything u...

Can you build me a table too? Very interested
just follow the video!
Turnstile & Landcruisers - let’s go dude 💪🏽
Love it. Thinking of doing this with my FJ62. Do the switch on Negative after install as well? Figuring out if I need to change the wire loom
Great idea & Vid… what is that black material that you used on the platform?
"Emergency" toilet? Did you think that when you go camping you wouldn't need to "go" at some point? Also, I'd like to see you wriggle your way into that vehicle and then onto that seat while your pants were down around your ankles.
I’m sure you would like to see that, wouldn’t you? ;)
Bauer, Warrior and a HF bucket. I think you might be my spirit animal.
Whats the suction cup phone mount you have?
素晴らしい👍 癒されました 私は95PRADOに12年乗ってます😊
Got a new sub, I absolutely love your LC and live near anza borrego if you ever want to link up to camp or Offroad. 3rd gen 4runner nicely built here! You make good videos keep up the good work 👍
I appreciate it! thank you!
@@lacruiser80 quick question how did you get diesel LC in La?
Man i love these older landcruisers they dont make them like they use to!! What size tyres and lift you running? Also started following you on insta love the steerwheel you chose. Keep making these types of vids and safe travels 😁
In this video I have 295/75r16 tires.
Crane prairie reservoir :)
🤫
ok where did you get the metal plate?
IMS - local metal supply shop
Great video. How is the awning attached. Did you weld to Campteq? Love the bench with L track Did you line X the bench in the back I may do the same down one side of my 80 Campteq and like how you have the attachment capability for alubox above the bench drawers
Awning is bolted to the campteq. The benched are plywood wrapped in a textures car vinyl.
Great to see you post a new video, as always so serene and peaceful!
I appreciate it!
Man this makes me miss my old 80 😢
Never met anyone who was glad they got rid of their 80.
Great video! I found for my 8020 build I needed to go back and loctite all the bolts, as they kept vibrating lose. Something to consider.
Temperature is spot on and love the old look being retained. Cutoff on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired.
Curious what that sleeping pad is in the back!
This one is an exped megamat duo. Very comfortable!
what is the ipad mount?
Just a generic tablet mount off amazon
Great mod to keep the classic look and make the truck more modern/driveable. Best type of mods! Curious - what camera and mic setup are you running?
I use a Fuji XH2-s and a Rode Videomic. Nothing crazy.
Another solid upgrade! Love the looks like bulb temp too
Yeah its all about the 3000k bulbs!
if only they made 2x5's
This is sick! I would love to hear about your battery setup sometime. The build looks so CLEAN!!!
Im planning out a full truck build walk around video where I will detail everything out. Keep your eyes peeled.
Looking forward to it!
Good choice! I love my @HolleyPerformance RetroBrights in my TJ. I was searching forever to find a headlight replacement that looked “period correct.” I’m so happy they offer a 3000k option!
Yeah this is the only LED option id ever go with. Great performance and classic look.
Any questions about the install? Shoot me a comment.
High beam is too low
still adjusting
Sick my guy! Dope build
Absolutely amazing colours! P.S. Nice radio! :)
Im obsessed
❤❤❤
Great video, great vehicle, subscribed.
Thanks a ton! I'll keep the videos coming!
Ah ha! So that’s the Land Cruiser I’ve seen around the Burbank area! Lol looks nice brother 👍
Haha that’s me
Where is this? We want to camp out there, it looks beautiful!

this is great 🙌🏼
Thanks!
Way cool!! What do you guys do for water in that build?
On this trip we had a soft 10gal water bladder under the bench.
Very nice! Can you provide dimensions on the Hest mattress? How was it cutting it down to size? Thanks!
Nice work man. I love that diesel sound.
Thanks! Nothing beats it.
This is very cool
Thanks!
❤
great bro, greetings from Indonesia
Thank you for sharing this evolution of your 1HDT build as it’s inspired me to follow suit with the roof conversion on my 1HDT though with a company in Australia. In Australia the roof conversions are only on Toyota troop carriers or Landrovers and only 3 on Land Cruisers 80’s at present. Seeing your build has shown me the potential of what I can do in mine, so thank you again. Love the dog and the quality of the videos.
I appreciate the kind words! What roof conversion is going on the 80? custom? You really cant beat an 80 series chassis and drivetrain!
It’s a roof conversion designed / built by the Expedition Centre in Sydney Australia under the name of Mulgo roof conversion and they can custom fit out to the customers requirements. My plan is to design and build the fit out myself. I agree the 80 is the best platform with its coil suspension, off road capability, the simplicity, minimal electronics, of operation and most of all for me as an ex farmer “ I can fix it”. The diesel 6 cylinder motor is exceptionally reliable especially as mine is been built for remote long distance travel.
@@jonchristopher2327 Amazing! Ive heard of those conversions. I think I've seen a video of one before. They look awesome! Keep me posted on the build. Id love to see it come together!
Love your attention to details man - so good!
Some call it obsessive haha. I appreciate it!
when building stuff becomes cinematic 👌🏻 love it!
Glad you like it!
Sweet!!
well done!
Well done! It looks great. Very pleasing to watch and well shot as well
Thank you!
So clean! What about those straps you used? What's the material? These would look good on the side of my roof rack on my 4Runner as grab handles to climb up on the wheels.
They are a 3D woven strap that Aeronaut / LUNAR is releasing soon. super strong and universal.
Great job! Looks clean 👍
Thanks!
very nice work
Thanks buddy!
Any questions about materials or tools used? Comment below!
Hi from Australia, I am in the process of building my 1hdt for overlanding and this series has answered my questions of workability with the space available. Ideally a troopie would be the best for conversion but to sell my 80 with its drivability, comfort and sentimental reasons was not on. Unfortunately the Compteq’s are not available in Oz so the search to import or convert the mainstream conversions is on. Thanks mate I really appreciate your work and inspiration.
What shop?
