8:00 - But *"race"* is purely biological and *this* is what these tests tell you very accurately although ethnicity estimates can be less accurate than that.

LATINO = EVERYONE THAT SPEAK A LATIN LANGUAGE. PORTUGUESE, BRAZILIANS, ITALIANS, FRENCH, ROMANIAN, ETC HISPANIC = EVERYONE THAT SPEAKS A HISPANIC LANGUAGE OR HAVE HISPANIC HERITAGE (MEXICANS, SPANISH, PERU, BOLIVIA, ETC). ALL HISPANICS ARE LATINOS BUT NOT ALL LATINOS ARE HISPANICS

My siblings and I are 50% which makes my mom 100 and my pops not so much lol. Never knew what to consider it. We all look so different from each other. So much variation and my mom’s side never taught my mom Portuguese so it’s always been an invisible heritage to us. My grandma would rarely share anything other than her maiden name Duarte. So anyways, as a 41 yo it’s nice to every once in a while listen to someone’s perspective about a topic that should have had more influence in one’s life but tragically didn’t. My grandma always wanted it to be this way. Not sure what she went through but it’s sad. I’m not mad about it at all, just sad since I know she must have gone through a lot to want to disappear that part of her and us. Thanks for the upload! Adds a little piece of relevance for me personally and it’s appreciated.

The slave trade in the Americas formally began on February 12, 1528 with the approval of the Emperor of the Germanic Roman Empire and king of Spain Charles V of Habsburg. The first beneficiaries of this authorization were two German merchants, Henri Ehinger and Jérome Sayler. Both were representatives of the Welsers, German bankers who dominated the finances of the Spanish crown alongside the Fuggers, together with the Genoese, they were pioneers of the slave trade to this region. However, it should be noted that both the Fuggers and the Welsers belong to the German companies of merchant bankers, who made their fortunes in the spice trade, mainly sugar and slaves, as they are the ones who introduced the first large sugar mills in the Americas and with it the slave trade. They had the monopoly on trafficking African slaves to the Americas. English slave traders erupted on the Caribbean scene from 1562 to 1569, with the arrival of John Hawkins. Germans did not abolish slavery in Tanganyika, only in 1922 when it became English. Servitude Ordinance of 1922 would effect a speedy decline of an already dying institution.1 Yet, only thirty years earlier under German colonial rule, slavery was a pervasive feature of most East African societies.

We consider ouselves nothing, that need of classification is an american racist obsession. We dont classify people into races in our official documents. That obsession with racial classification keeps americans focusing on the differences, it serves no purpose. I classify myself as human and that should be enough.

Half my family Portuguese from azors. But I did DNA came back I have Roman, celt and Moorish. I looked deeper and one time Roman cover the area until the moorish invaded. I also carry the a25-bis-dr2 gene what ever that mean lol. So in the end Portuguese are a mix of Roman, celts and moorish. I guess that's why there are so many different shades of skin color in my family.

Portuguese people are by definition “Latin”, “Lusophone”,”Romanic”,”Italic” etc. words have more than one definition. You are correct that Latino means related to the natives or inhabitants of Latin America though…Just as Brazilians are Non-Hispanic Latinos the Portuguese, French, Italians, Spaniards and Romanians among other countries I’m not naming because I’m not educating a child on TH-cam when it’s the school systems job are Latin people by the adjective form’s definition.

Portugal is not Hispanic. It's lusophone and a part of the Europa latina from an european standpoint. Americans (estadunidenses) are usually the ones associating latinos to America (not to be rude).

Not all Melanated people in Portugal were "slaves". Remember The Moors ruled Spain for over 800 years, and a lot of them were in Portugal "Port of The Gals" as well, especially after they were exiled from Spain. Study for yourselves people. Peace.

So where do I fall? I'm a Heinze 57 of ethnicity. I'm southern Italian, Portuguese, Hispaña, Albanian Greek... But I'm truly not Caucasian, only the American census would put me in that category. Don't get me wrong The small percentage of my white side is French English and Scottish... But seriously where do I fit in? I fly the Italian in Portuguese flag all the time at my house, at my campsite, But regular Americans can't comprehend what Portugal is.

  • @calypsogrove

I have read on paper work before that " luso-American" is what I should define as, but that is not typically and normally on paperwork. They do not acknowledge us on the whole of it. We are not Caucasian, we are not Latino, but we ARE something, and our language is worldwide, especially because of Brazil.

Good effort but Marquês de pombal ended slavery to Portugal but not to Brazil where the profits are bigger he has to do it because the British where imposing the abolition. And also black people are indeed true Israelites, deuteronomy 28 in the bible says exactly what the Europeans did, all European countries involved direct or indirect because they enslave or bought the Gods chosen people. The Portuguese even hell the Vatican to change images of saints and indeed jesus christ as well. Your welcome.

In the American definition? Nope lol. The Roman name for the geographical Province of Hispania is purely geographical, nothing to do with ethnicity since the people who populated the peninsula were all different tribes
