removing a broken EZ out & bolt from 2 stroke power valve cover
มุมมอง 204หลายเดือนก่อน
Saving a cylinder barrel with a failed attempt of broken bolt removal, where the EZ out has sheared off inside a seized power valve cover bolt. To avoid any further damage to the casing the best option was to get it on the mill and machine out the damaged parts, then chase the threads clean.

That was a brilliant video. The press is a beast, what a machine. Nice to see you blending out damage on the gear teeth. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for the great series of video's! Did you find the reason for the excessive axial clearance on the input shaft? What's the price for the spindle bearings and where did you find them?
I marvel at your patience. Mid-way through, you stopped using the air power on your press. Was that due to equipment malfunction, or just to get a better “feel” as you pressed?
Halfway through the job I had a main feed hose blown off the foot pedal control due to a incorrectly sized barb fitting I now have the correct barb & I will include some better videos of my pipework in the following press video just didn't have time that day to get back into pipework. I Also planned to use only manual power for the seals like you say to get a better feel although I am quite happy with the feed control the foot pedal offered me for fitting the bushes. Thank you for your time
I would advise anyone who embarks upon a machine tool restoration job to not start it unless you are imbued with the kind of patience displayed by tectonic plates.
Don’t let Timmy shift the bike again after you fix the teeth on that gear lol
Great to see you. Was working on my mill today. Horrendous brinelling on some thrust bearings. My verdict for you is definitely don't tig it. Not worth it. Diamond file and just reprofile/blend out the damage.
That is exactly what I've been doing with the less damaged gears using a diamond Dremel disc ( designed for sharpening tungsten electrodes) to just bring back the profile and remove any shards.
@@Adventure_Van_Upgrades I'd say that is the way forward. No telling what trying to Tig weld the gears will do to the heat treatment or warping them. Not worth the risk.
Thanks
Brilliant video and great work upgrading the press. Really enjoyed it. I like your Ajax mill. Similar size to my Harrison, except your Ajax is all in one piece and it works.
Glad to see this new video posted! I bought the same lathe almost a year ago and am quite slowly bringing it back to life, so am following your progress with great interest. My headstock looks pretty good inside, so to start I’ll flush it, fill with fresh oil and see how it runs, but I’m about to drop the carriage, as you did in this chapter, to make sure it isn’t polluted. Thanks for sharing your work and good luck with the reassembly!
Hello mate, that was a brilliant video. I really enjoyed it. Its a similar journey you are on with your lathe as I am with my Harrison mill. I wish I had a parts cleaner as everything on the mill is filthy and its backbreaking work with a big plastic box, solvent and brushes etc to clean it all. Good score on the NOS clutch basket. I just got a NOS X axis lead screw and nut for my mill. Old nut was worn out. I got the NOS parts for less than the cost of a piece of bronze to make a nut. I have made slow progress this year as my wife has been poorly. Your channel has spurred me on. I like what you do as you are working in a similar way to me, in a similar space. Merry Christmas to you and thanks for all the great content in 2024.
@@carlwilson1772 the parts washer is a great addition to the workshop although could very easily be made up on the cheap , I just bought some industrial grade detergent non solvent so it's not as dangerous and irritating to have in the heated workspace. I managed to score the clutch basket on black Friday deals for £65 but the other replacement feed gears I have sourced came at a much higher price. Wishing you and the wife a happy holidays & hope she's on the mend now.
Hi! - I have the very same problem with my van. Is it really possible to remove the rail without lifting the floor? When you say you managed to get 'under' the van to remove it - do you mean from under the chassis? Any chance of a few pics? I'm trying to find a local welder and convince them that this can be done. Previous mechanics have told me you need to lift the whole floor (which I think is the case for other models but this model clearly has bolt heads on the outside.🙏
You were a lucky gut, to find those NOS parts, especially the clutch basket. ( saves you Tig welding those edges up and re machining). Are you going to repaint the outside? (almost rude not too🤣). Lucky you acquired that shaper, eh. its a good plan B, if the 'Cosmic supply Co' does not come up trumps. All the best for 2025!
@@ratboy2962 yes that's it I couldn't pass up the opportunity when it became available! Not badly priced either on black Friday sales I only paid £65 for the clutch basket, I have since Also found a pair of replacement feed gears safe to say they came at a much higher price :'( , I had bought that shaper with the intention of using it to cut gears with tight shoulders that can't be done with conventional cutter set-up I'm quite looking forward to firing up the Elliot 10M , just need to get this gearbox back together ( and yes you're right it would certainly be rude not to give the old beast some fresh paint)
Was de dieseltank niet lek.Of heb die gelast
@@vincent-u2z no welding was required after all the cleaning was finished, it did not have any leaks. Thanks for watching 😎
I used an old leather belt for replacement wipers. Leather is great as it soaks up oil and gets more pliable.
Smashing projects, the garden tractor loader is brilliant. Always enjoy your films.
Very nice work. Looking great
Nice one. I really like the way you explain and show everything. Cheers.
Pleased to see the old girl running.....WELL DONE!. Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see what you have in store or her, work wise. (if you want a simple way to get those stickers off the new lights, without leaving backing or residue behind, use a few drops of old fashioned cigarette lighter fluid. I just use the pound land stuff)
I clean diesel and gasoline tanks with hydrochloric acid, it costs about 1.50 euros per liter
Thank you for all this 3 parts video jurney... what the job... i give up my engne becaus donot want start up or ashly shut down after 3000 rew in driveing and no one after 2yer can findng what going wrong.... if you may have ideal let me know.
How do you paint the tractor with what
That's a really lovely tractor, a joy to own something like that I'm sure. The engine sounds proper! Well done for working out the issue with the indicators. Great film and great work.
Great film and great work. A DRO makes such a difference. Worth every penny spent on them.
Thanks for your continued support Carl, it's been a much needed addition to the machine and I'm really pleased to have finally completed the installation now to get onto some bigger better jobs 🎉 😎
@Adventure_Van_Upgrades No worries my friend. Always enjoy your videos and learn something new.
Nicely done so much easier with the dro 👍👍👍
Thanks Steve,it was a much needed addition to the machine. A great time saver in the long run.
... in my experience, BOTH main bearings should be replaced ... they look quite worn out and would be smart to do them now ...
@@oldskeptic1513 when tearing down the spindle, I did check for any measurable movement in the lateral float/ rotation of the bearings & they proved to be in good condition. If I could find a supplier that could offer a replacement pair I would snap them 😎 thank you for your advice I'll keep my eyes open but the plan is to get this beauty back together this winter ❄️
Great work, nice to see the van progressing. Great video!
Linseed oil and bleach ! ( softens putty)😉. BUT bleach may produce chlorine gas if it reacts with aluminium.🤔
Fantastic videos that I plan to use for my refurb this winter. On the handbrake bracket - I think you will find the one supplied is right - you have the same rollbar as mine which I saw fitted in the 1970's and it was necessary for the original handbrake bracket to be trimmed (as you have had to do on the supplied part) to avoid a clash with the rollbar.

Hi mate thanks for the video. can i ask where the balance shaft is please. as i bought a van thats had a engine rebuild. as i got a vibrate on tick over and when i rev. been told the balance shaft may not be in time. and help please.
Hi, I've just been given a herbert 0V mill for free that was going in the scrap if i didn't take it, it's just like your's, though it's in rougher shape, it's got a bit of surface rust but nothing is siezed solid, it seems like a reasonably tight machine but we'll see once i get it cleaned up a bit.
Great video but now I'm realising how much work there is in our van 😭 We have the same version master and will prob need to remove the middle guide rail as the rollers have eaten away at it. It's probably been metal on metal for far too long
Hey there chap, wondering where you got the mid roller assembly from. I bought a set, but they come as three separate rollers and it looks like a hard way of doing it. Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers man.
Cant believe you taking this engine apart again? only 2 year ago full rebuild. Im scared driving mine lol, shes on 210,000 now.
Nice video, just wondering what oil you put in as it seems to differ for cooler climates. Thanks
Hi bit of a long shot but do you still have the parts lathe? I would be interested in some parts if you do Cheers
Any new videos with the headstock rebuild ?
Brilliant video. Can you help me with a question. My clutch shaft( where the v-belt pulley is mounted) has a 5-10mm play when changing the spindle direction, from forward to back ward. Is this correct with this play or has something to be adjusted.
Something you could well do without
Thanks for posting these videos. You’ve done an impressive job of pulling the headstock apart. I know it’s a lot of work to film and edit the process, but I’ve subscribed to your channel in hopes that you document the reassembling of this machine. I happen to have acquired a Triumph 2000 (called the Clausing-Colchester 15” here in the US) earlier this year, and am in the process of cleaning it up and evaluating. It’s similar in age to your lathe, and a very nice machine which I’m thrilled to put back in service. Best of luck with your rebuild!
Thanks for subscribing , I have been gathering up all the required bearings to rebuild my machine & have recently purchased a parts washer to help with the cleaning of all gear train & shifting mechanism. I intend to get the next installment released in the next two months. So bare with me :) I've had a few other projects going on at the same time so finding time to get setup and film is sometimes tight
Hi. Where dod you get the parts? Did the roller supplier provide the replacement bolt? Thanks Mike
