Skip overpriced souvenirs in tourist areas and shop at alternative stores. Save on transportation by booking Shinkansen tickets in advance or using value passes. Avoid costly taxis and opt for Japan’s efficient trains. Even small changes, like buying attraction tickets online or choosing better currency exchange options, can save you money. Tokyo’s SUICA IC Card is Back? 7 Suica Alternatives You Can Use 2024
I have a question. My flight lands in narita airport at 4pm, do u have any recommendations for sending luggage to hotels in Tokyo from narita aiport?
One of the best channels about Japan. Thank you for sharing information.
I have used Osaka amazing pass. One of the best thing I have used in my Japan trip
Wonderful Video Meg! We were in Japan in October we saw a lot while there, We got to visit a lot of different places, it was amazing to see how many tourists were in Japan, I was very surprised as I never saw that many when I was in Japan in the past. Nara was on our list but we were talking to some locals in Osaka and they said there have been a lot of deer attacks and warned us not to go, glad we took the advice. We made a lot of new friends and can't wait to go back! Japan truly is a beautiful country!
Thanks for the information 😮
People constantly claim that JR pass is too expensive. Keep in mind however that basically EVERY JR train is free with the JR Pass. I had the complete Japan pass and it even worked on some busses in Hiroshima. So if you'll be traveling around the whole country and riding the shinkansen more than 4-5 times for stuff like the golden triangle destinations than it's completely worth it.
Thank you so much for this. I always wanted a Suica card because i visit Japan regularly so the Welcome Suica isn’t very interesting for me. And last August i was near Ueno if i knew that i could get it there…
Indian accent
Thank you for your informative Videos.
Yes, absolutely
1:41 I like this tip. You’ve mentioned it in the past and after I went and found all the grocery stores that were close to my hotels. Surprisingly there were a number of them even in the tourist areas It’s also interesting noticing what’s made it over here to the states. In the LA area there’s multiple Kura restaurants here and there’s also a daiso really close to me.
Wow! They are everywhere!!
Thank you for helping to get around Osaka
Sure thing

The touts were everywhere in Shinjuku a couple months ago, when I was there. Sometimes there's a japanese person standing nearby with a sign that basically says something to the effect of, "What this person is doing is illegal. Do not go with them". Basically if a person (especially if NON-japanese person) is trying to get you to go to their bar or club, ignore them. 99 times out of 100 times, they're trying to scam you.
@@Chuck8541 Yes, that's true.
My buddy got back recently and he was telling me some places don’t even price drinks in yen anymore. He saw the dollar sign and walked out.
@@Alexwhatisit Japan has become a tourist country!
Can you recommend any specific great value stores in Tokyo? I'd like to add their address to my map for a trip I am taking in March.
@@chuck6290 That's a difficult question. Please check my previous videos!
Honestly I really liked Daiso and Don quijote stores for souvenirs and snacks to bring with me on my trip. They're basically everywhere in Japan.
Thanks for the great info🎉
My pleasure! Glad it helped. 🎉

The west already found out how dangerous it was to welcome people from Africa and the Arab countries. Japan would do well to resist. If not careful then Meiji shrine would become a mosque and Tokyo a knife crime capital. Thats what happened to U.K. Starts with a small amount and then you’re overrun.
Tipps leider veraltet, die meisten lohnen sich nicht 😢
If you feel so, that's a shame.
Plan to go Fukuoka next April any advice?
Nakasu is a fun place, and I highly recommend visiting it. Fukuoka is also famous for mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and tonkotsu ramen (pork bone ramen), so make sure to try them.
@MegLog_JAPAN can't eat pork😁
08:15 that just terrible, person should pay total price for fixing it and be banned from coming to Japan.
Yes!!
Does Timekettle really works or is it just marketing?
It really works! I was really amazed.
Is it possible to buy both the suica card and the Icoca card?
Yes, it's possible.
I m going to Tokyo 12/24/24. Where to buy Suica? After arrival at the airport? Thank you!
Yes, you can buy it at the airport!
If you lose the welcome suica card you cannot get any balance back even if you have the information of the card number.
Yeah, I believe you need to keep the number for that. That’s probably the most important thing.
i think you forgot to mention a CON for the Suica mobile app that does not work on our android phones from our country...we must have iPhones for it to work...Cheers from Canada
Yes, that's correct. iPhone is only available unfortunately...
The most surprising update was about the new Prime Minister. He didn't show the true culture of Japanese people in general 😢.
Thank you Meg, I will be in Tokyo mid Jan. and appreciate this channel and your information very much.
I'm glad it helped you!

Just landed and thank you so much for making these videos. I’ve watched this video so many times
Good to hear that!
Good information !
Absolutely
The funny pengin card is back, that's all I needed to know
I am also happy to hear that.
This is great information! Thank you for sharing it! We are planning to land in FUK and stay there for a couple of days before we head to Tokyo. Is there a specific train card you recommend to use around in Fukuoka? I still have my Suica card from last year and I plan to use to it. We are looking forward to exploring Fukuoka next year!
If you have a Suica, you don't need to buy anything except for rural areas.
Lets see. I will be buying two weeks JR Pass for $520. I will travel from - to => ticket price Sapporo - Tokyo $191 Tokyo - Nagasaki $175 Nagasaki - Tokushima $130 Tokushima - Tokyo $130 Tokyo - Matsumoto and back $70 x 2 = $140 Total $766 Also I will use local JR trains and bus lines. I think that pass is the way to go.
Yeah, it could be but that's a very tight schedule. Plus, when you visit Sapporo, I recommend taking a plane instead of Shinkansen.
@@MegLog_JAPAN I will fly to Sapporo and snowboard for a week. Also traveling on trains in Japan is part of fun. This will be my six trip. I most likely visited more places in Japan than most Japanese. I did hachijūhakkasho-meguri on a bicycle, two times plus shimanami kaido. I love Japan.
Doesn't duty free go into effect in 2026?
Yes, I think it does. We are not sure yet.
Japan was so nice to give us tourists a simplified tax refund system where you can get your tax back at the point of purchase. However, so many selfish people abused this system and in the future we will have to go to the airport and join the loongggg queue, present your receipts and present all your goods (idk how since I would imagine they would be scattered all over your luggages) just to get the tax refund. Those selfish people is why we cannot have nice things.
Yup, that's true...
We’ve planned for last week of May and first week of June 2025.. Me, my wife and 2 1/2 year old.. Would this be a recommended period in your view?
I think so! It's just a little hot but it's way better than mid summer.
We're going to Japan Dec. 16 (tomorrow) and I found your video very helpful. I see no problem with women getting a discount for all-you-can-eat. Women generally eat less, so it makes sense. I'm not a big eater, so I'm always careful to see if it will be worth it for me. So, c'mon, guys, give the girls a break...
Yes!
My Citibank Costco card has no conversion fee but there is an ATM fee. For those who have cards without the withdrawal fee, which do you have?
I recommend bringing a portable luggage scale, especially for those who like to bring a lot of stuff back from Japan. It saved me a lot of time and stress as i didn't have to re-pack at the airport.
Nice video
Thank you!
Arigato sister very helpful
Good it helped
Thanks so much
My pleasure!
I was there from August 4-12. Yes, it was a bit humid, but it was not terrible. I don’t like the cold.😃
That's good to know! I dislike the heat.
From a point of view of transportation in only the Tokyo & Chiba areas. Is there weekly/monthly pas for metro or train? (Assuming that you are there for about 6 months)
If you travel around the same way, you should have a monthly pass
I guess you can pre-load Suica on iPhone. Do you know if there is a limit, behaves like a bank debit card. Pay hotels with Suica? 🤔
Yes it is! I think it's up to ¥20,000
@ thanks for the info
#9 is sad it not only be store policy but criminal offence
Wagyu was fine, people like to complain. Good marketing and fair
But it's a good quality
