Glad you were not hurt. Thanks for sharing. Is that a MAPP burner top? Some are propane only and some will work on both. I had this happen with an old top one time and it was using cork as a washer/seal that had gone bad. Good luck in the future.
@@rosswitte thank you. This came in a set, torch and tank together. I believe the seal went bad while it was being stored. I hadn't ever removed the tank after purchasing it.

You can't use a Mapp gas on a propane torch head. They must be jetted differently. I had this happen to me. It was scary. I just had the standard propane head on mine. Glad you didn't get hurt.
@@allenvasicek7771 this was a map-pro torch head that came in a kit with that tank.
Good thing you were wearing gloves. Looks like it could have been very unpleasant burns on your hands if they didnt have a little protection
Wow! Scary. Good you had enough sense to throw it away from and not under your truck. We call it a gas axe.
You're lucky man. Seen worse before. Scary shit. Bottle problem or torch problem?
I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago when using one of these torches in my garage and luckily I was wearing leather gloves when the flames 🔥 erupted and the garage bay door was open, in a quick split second I became Tom Brady throwing a Superbowl game winning "Hail Mary" 50 yard pass 🏈 down my blacktop driveway breathing a sigh of relief, when I retrieved it the hard landing caused the top area of the bottle to be bent making the screw on tip slightly off in one direction but still useable, and I also replaced the defective seal.
It's been really eye opening how many people share this experience. Here I thought I was about the only one.
lol, its always funny to see a "green" bottle on an oxy set... here, green is AMMONIA! almost never seen in "the wild"...

The sky is killing. The sky is falling. - Chicken Little.
If you've read the video description, you'd see that I'm not advocating against using one of these. And if you read through the comments you'd see this has happened to several other people and one lost their leg. Sooooooo . . .
That didn't blow up if it did you'd be dead that was just an example of somebody not checking their equipment before they use it
Sorry I'm not dead 🙄. You realize it wasn't leaking before I started using it, because if it had been it would have been empty, right? 🤦♂️

My uncle was using a similar torch and tank in a auto body shop years ago and the bottom of the tank ruptured and he lost his right leg and his manhood in the explosion and nearly died, these torches can be dangerous if they are defective!

Where was the "earth shattering KABOOM"? It caught fire. It did not explode. Don't embellish, just tell it like it was.
While on a ski mountaineering trip, at a hut high on a glacier in the Canadian Rockies one winter, I had the same thing happen to a small camp stove. It was leaking and the entire table burst into flames. I grabbed the small propane tank, walked to the door, and threw it down the glacier several hundred feet. Once the source was gone the fire went out and the hut was saved. If the hut had burned down we might not have survived the night.
Whoa! Gnarly.
so youre the one responsible for global warming? there are some pissed off polar bears and a few crazy liberals looking for you
I wouldn’t call that an explosion, but it would definitely get your attention.
You obviously don't know what you're doing because you're supposed to always check for gas leaks beforehand
Obviously it wasn't leaking when I started or the tank would have already been empty.
We call it the "Fire Wrench"
"Smoke Wrench" here
The mapp torch was the least of your problems...You were laying under that vehicle that was on nothing but a floor jack...That is one VERY bad habit...It's only a matter of time before you find that out the hard way...
Nah, this thing had a jack stand behind the floor jack.
@@AdamLucasYT Watch those blocks of wood too. Use solid oak or ash, much safer.
Cross threaded the torch onto the bottle?
Nope. Hadn't ever removed the tank since I bought it.
theres rubber seal they blow out more often then you think iv seen it before
Breaker bar is way better than impact (depends on the impact of course);
I found the greatest tool in the world. I bought an Induction Bolt Heater. I paid about $200.00. Professional versions start about $5-600.00. I love it it only heats the metal and not the plastic and rubber near by. It's a lot safer, especially in tight spaces. I bought it to do a water pump on an old Ford that is notorious for snapping bolts. After that job, I figured it was paid for.
What brand and where ? Thanks 😊
@shawnsmith4058 I think I bought it through Vevor. They sell products cheap. It works well for me in my barn. Just Google Induction Bolt Heater. The cheap ones are probably all made by the same people.
I prefer oxy acetylene with welding nosle (water on standby)

@walkgood4092 at the seal between tank and torch.
Quick reactions, good job! BTW you might want to think about using eye protection when working on stuff, you never know when something unexpected might happen. You only have two of them.
