Half Blind Horse Spooks!
มุมมอง 460หลายเดือนก่อน
I really had no idea what I was going to be dealing with when I accepted to work with Mayfair. Her story was that she was a spooky horse to begin with, but manageable. After she got an infection in her right eye, she started going blind, despite all the efforts from the owners with medication and vet visits and follow ups. After she lost her eye sight, she started exploding and bolting sideways...
Sapphire Pulls Back! Another extreme...

Our training was progressing well, and each day, I would tie Sapphire to the railing at the washing bay and she would stand relaxed and let me give her a good wash down. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago, for some unknown reason, she threw her head up when some water got close to her face and she pulled back until she pulled the slack out of the line. She freaked out and panicked. She was vio...

มุมมอง 4.7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
We are ready for our first ride, I share with you 4 essential things you should check and show you what to check for, before you consider getting on your horse for the first time. Some people just get on and buck it out, that fine, but if you want to keep yourself and your horse safe, and actually teach them something that they will fondly remember, then do these 4 checks first. If your can't h...

Wow! She has a great temperament! "Unhandled" can be a blessing, right? It's great that you are working with her. I love how fair and gentle you are with her. Those quiet moments when the horse chooses to stay are the best, in my opinion.

I'm very impressed by your patience and insistence you are showing by working with this wonderful stallion - strong, intelligent and vivacious, but also shy and fearful. I can see that you work very carefully with the horse, which is very understandable to me, also because I heard you say that you were once attacked by a horse. That leaves its mark. - Have you been able to work through the trauma psychologically or is the horror still in your bones? I wish you all the best and hope there will be a continuation, would like to see how the story is going on with the saddle... ;-) Lots of respectfulness for your commitment, from Switzerland!

Great video! You're right; Arabs have incredible stamina and are also exceptionally smart. Some trainers seen on TH-cam have mentioned that Arabians are difficult and unpredictable to train, but it is more about winning the horse's trust first. A first-rate job with Sapphire.

Why are her ribs showing? On the Body Condition Scoring, she looks like she rates a 3, which is unnecessarily THIN! Looking back at the first training video, she appeared to be in much better condition without any rib definition.

I have very much enjoyed watching your work with Sapphire. I hope that her owner will have as much patience with her as you have shown is well worth the effort. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, I am not involved with horses at this time but have a great attachment to them in my heart having been involved previously. Honestly, I just enjoy watching your work with horses, I love horses, and I am glad to learn a few things along the way. I do have two questions that I would like to ask -- what is your first name and what location do you train out of? I noticed palm trees in the background so I was just wondering. Thank you for posting your videos and I look forward to new ones in November. Thank you! Melinda

Nicely done. The treat thing - "not believing in it" - really, if you do want to explore any type of positive reinforcement type training, you don't try to bribe with food, and you don't offer food as they move away, the opposite and there is a whole approach with it. But study it by someone that is a professional. It can be a powerful tool among others like pressure and release when done well.
