Welcome to Little Hill Homestead. We hope you will grab a cup of tea and cozy up with us for a bit. Our channel is the daily life stuff on our suburban 1.5 acre homestead that happens to be on a little hill. Lots of scratch cooking, sourdough baking, gardening, greenhouse growing, canning, slow living and faith with lots of humor.

MAKE AHEAD SOUP MIX/Dried soup mix in a jar - part 1. Soup mixes using dried and dehydrated goods.
Part two will be out Tuesday!
For each ingredient below remember to use dried or dehydrated if it will be going into the jar to be stored long term even if I didn't notate it in the recipe.
Hearty soup - a little bit of everything
1 cup dried peas
1 cup lentils
1/2 cup barley
2 tablespoons beef bouillon
3 tablespoons dried onion
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1/4 cup rice
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 cup ditalini pasta
Remove pasta and add contents to crock pot with 1 lb of precooked ground beef, 1 - 14.5 oz can diced tomato, 15 oz. tomato sauce, 3 quarts of water or broth. Let go on ow all day. The last hour add the pasta into the mix. Remove bay leaf and serve.
Pasta Faggioli
1 cup shell pasta in a bag
3/4 cup pinto
3/4 cup cannellini beans
3/4 cup great northern or navy beans
1/4 cup dried carrot
2 tablespoons celery
2 tablespoons dried parsley
1/3 cup dried onion
1 teaspoon dried basil, oregano and rosemary
1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, red pepper flakes and black pepper
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon
to make add contents of jar to a crockpot with 8 cups of water and 1-28 oz. can of diced tomatoes. Cook 8-10 hours until beans are done. Add pasta the last hour.
Chicken Noodle soup
2 cups egg noodles
1/4 cup each dried carrot, celery and onion
1 tablespoon parsley
3 tablespoons bouillon
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
to make - into a pot on the stove add 2 cups cooked chicken, contents of jar, 8 cups of water. Cook 20-25 minutes until everything is soft.
Sausage Lentil
1 1/2 cup lentils. I like to mix 2 or 3 colors
1/4 cup carrot
1/2 cup rice
1 tablespoon onion
1 tablespoon celery
2 tablespoons leek
1 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon each basil and oregano
3 tablespoons beef bouillon
to make add the contents of the jar into crock pot along with 1 lb browned italian sausage ground or links cut into rings, 29 oz can diced tomato, 10-12 cups water and cook all day on low.
Potato leek
1 cup dehydrated diced potato
1/2 cup dehydrated leek
2 tablespoons celery
2 tablespoon onion
1 tablespoons shallot
1/2 teaspoons dill
1/4 teaspoons thyme
2 bay leaves
2 tablespoons chicken bouillon
dump contents of jar into crockpot along with 6-8 cups water. We like to add 2-3 gold or red potatoes diced up to the pot but you don't have too. Cook on low all day. Right before you serve add 1 cup of heavy cream and stir well.
For all recipes you can do a pot on the stove instead of a crockpot and cook on medium for 1- 1.5 hours until ingredients are done. Add pasta the last 30 minutes if you do stovetop.

Love the soups and I love creating meals in a jar❤ And Short Circuit is one of mt favorite movies🤖. So many great lines! The Indian guy is so funny😂
I love soups!! Thanks!!❤ Nanna
"No disassemble Number Five!"
I just short circuited.
When you said Italian I heard Shawn yell, Sicilian, lolololol . I will definitely be making the bean and chicken noodle. Can’t wait for part two. Sending this video to my sister.
You two are so lucky to have each other ❤❤
Such a great idea….i love making soups in the cooler weather but sometimes you don’t have time or don’t feel well…this would be so easy to have in the pantry for a pick soup…thanks Ali!
lol on smashing the pasta in the jar !! They all look good and I love how easy they sound to put together..
I love your content. You are starting to batch in higher numbers which is often a dispense out of a lot of backlog on a fast growing channel trying to feed a long list f what they feel is a « must do now ». It’s OK to batch out in 3 at a time and disperse in future videos while you are busy working n things in the background. Which we know you are doing. Pace yourself, save a backlog for when you just can’t. Tfs.
She is going to love it! Awesome job Shawn. ❤
Always practical…love your channel! 😊
Tell him that’s in Italy 🤣😂 so you are correct ✅
I have used small fabric drawstring bags instead of the plastic. Works great and I don't spill all over the counter
These all look good. Going to try and few soon I'm wondering if you can tell me the difference between the difference of the colors of the lentil. I have always been curious. Thanks
The orange break down the fastest and we mostly do the brown ones since they pick up flavors of what you cook them in. Here’s a good website. www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-difference-brown-green-and-red-lentils-111139
I love my Septre! Looking forward to part 2. I Caramelize my onions using the crockpot
Thank you for the recipes ! Yummy yummy!
N.223 👍loved the video 📷📸 👋👏👏👏👏
I love these meals in jars videos!
I want to do all of these! These would be great for giving away too. Thankyou so much. I look forward to ‘part 2’ ! 🎉
Thank you Ali and Shawn. These all look amazing. I will be making some up for my daughter because she works full time with a new baby.
That's a great idea for a new mom!
Bless hubby is getting sick!!! Hope he gets better soon!! Those are some wonderful recipes!!! Ty for the great recipes! Hey I will just put my pasta in a bag slap it in the jar! Makes it so much easier to me!!!
Thank you for your recipe! This would be a great neighbor Christmas gift! Enjoy your channel so much. I am watching the thrift stores for a pasta machine. I don’t want to go buy unless I try it out 😂. I do love noodles.
Great ideas! All of them I know we would like!
how big are the jars you're using to store these soup mixes in ?

@LittleHillHomestead yay thanks!
What a wonderful, informative “series”! Just recently upgraded my dehydrator because of your spice video and now I can expand to SOUPS!! Yay Thank you for all your work & inspiration❤
I love that you upgraded your dehydrator! I hope you love making soups with it.
@ Oh, this is right up my alley! Love soup
Is your cookbook out yet?
Hopefully later this year.
I love how you add the recipes with your videos. And i love all your videos. I look forward to watching them all.
I have a name change idea for late nights with Shawn. Shawnanagins thanks for the recipes
I love that! That’s amazing actually.
Oops, I think part 2's soups are listed in the description, so I'll wait for the next video for these recipes! For the chicken soup: I learned to dehydrate poultry from Rain Country here on the tube - the secret of perfect dehydrated chicken and turkey is to cook it, chop it then freeze it. Spread it out on a cookie sheet to make things easier. Once completely frozen, pop it on the trays in the dehydrator. It comes out very crispy and rehydrates beautifully.
All fixed. Ugh! Guess now yall know the other soups. My bad!
will you be showing todays recipes in tomorrows video? lol the ones listed are not the ones you did today lol asking for a friend lol
Ugh! It’s fixed now. My brain
Tried your muffin mix in a jar today ! They are great, I used one cup of frozen raspberries in it, sooo good thanks Ali
I’m sure we all understand. I can’t imagine working 7 days per week. Take care of yourself and your family and have some fun.❤
Cool idea…thanks! ❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve been looking for meal in a jar dehydrated recipes.
Great I made them today I added cheesecake instant pudding dry mix with little cinnamon chipsturned out so good thank you
That sound super tasty! 🤤
So could you use a sourdough starter in place of the sour cream starter?
I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think the cultures are the same. Also not sure if you want to use a flour based item as a starter in cream. Maybe try a small batch to see.’
Oh Shawn! What a beautiful gift! I just love you two!
After i started using 10g of vital wheat gluten per loaf of sourdough i have not had a bad bread since. Not to mention that the bread is huge now with it. Highly recommend
That is great to hear!
You're an awesome husband.
😊
Awesome 👌she will love it.❤
Very nice job!!! Miss Ali's a lucky lady!! I loved doing pottery in school! I definitely can't wait to see those episodes! 😊 Out of curiosity, how are you going to fire the pieces?
We’re working on finding a used kiln local to us. The good thing is we have time since the work needs to sit to dry.
We used to have a kiln in CA but let it go when we moved. Looking for one. Bought some low fire clay to practice on for now. It’s been a while but Ali will get it all back. She has some amazing pieces from the college days.
So glad you guys share your life with us and all the wonderful information you share !! Love you guys
Ah. Thanks. Ali is the culprit. I just live here. Ha ha . Isn’t she just the best. I still run the house though… kind of. Buhahahaha.
@ I’m sure you do !
That’s an awesome gift. She will love it. Great job
Second time making this shampoo. Easy to make and works great. Thanks Ali!
I'm so glad you are enjoying it!
😳you showed off Louise's back side😱 🤣😉
Making these a second time using your recipe. These were a huge hit the first time and literally everyone that’s tried them has said how good they are! This is the new household recipe and I wouldn’t change a thing. My stove is a little wonky and likes to burn everything up lol so I had to tweak the temp a bit for baking, using 350 for 8-10 mins vs 375 (tried 375 on the first tray last time and it crisped up too much before the center heated through), but that was my ovens bad. Seriously the yummiest, softest cookies with a little crunch on the outside. If anyone reads this and tries these you won’t be disappointed!
I’m so glad you like them. Our oven is like yours. It’s a pain but we’re use to her now.
Made the large batch of Taco seasoning and just tried it. It tastes great! This is the third thing I’ve made using recipes you’ve shared, and all of them have been fantastic. I always get sad when I don’t see people commenting about whether or not they’ve actually tried the recipes (and whether they turn out good or not) because it helps me decide if I want to make it. So I’m just here to say this is great taco mix! We made it, used it and the fam loved it too. Great seasoning recipe! I will say if you have kids that don’t like “spicy” maybe cut back a little bit on the cayenne, otherwise this is a solid recipe. Very good, don’t hesitate to try it!
Thank you for letting me know how it turned out! So glad you and the fam enjoyed it!
Awww Shawn she’s going to love it 🥰 I love it😊What day is her Birthday 🎉 ?
On the 7th. And I gifted it to her early. No way she would not see it on the TH-cam video. She’s pretty excited. Thank you.
Thank you for this video. I have a request and perhaps many others may be interested as well. Went to the store the other day (live in Calif) and needed eggs for making my Mayo............nothing.........not one single carton. We use a lot of Mayo around here. Before I started making my mayo I had found a vegan one (I am not vegan, just was desperate for better ingredients), and it was good, much like Best Foods/Hellmans (same product different name). I as perhaps others do not want to go back to store bought Mayo. So since eggs will be hard to find and when found will be very $$, would you be able to make a no egg Mayo for those of us who make our own? The one I had found, the ingredients are.......Expeller pressed high oleic safflower oil - filtered water - brown rice syrup - ACV - pea protein - sea salt - mustard flour - lemon juice concentrate. Not sure how better ingredients these are now a day (I was just learning way back then) Ingredients would need changing like oil (learned it is heavily procced), this of course would only be a start point as your others dubs are. OR make us be in awe of your great talent of figuring out the How To of duping on your very own. With what we are all looking at with higher pricing, we need your talents more then ever. Thank you for teaching us all your Dups.
We’re having the same issue with eggs out here. Hmm, let me mess with this and see if I can figure it out. Great idea!
