We would love to be able to find the name of the lady standing in front of a peat stack and complete our search. We have additional images of her taken inside a crofthouse which you can see in our photo albums in Da Gadderie. At the beginning of this project none of the people in Chris Morphet’s...

The Americans call it blocking. Now i know in Scotland its boarding or dtessing x
I wonder what that thing is called on her waist where she puts the end of the needle
I would give just about anything to live there. I feel so out of time and place here. Lost my old homeland to rich ppl buying up all the land, now I'm alone. Sitting by the fire with another crafter makes me feel less bereft and windblown ❤ thank you.
I miss you all! I know it’s hard to keep this kind of channel going, but i can’t afford a trip there!
What a lovely video and such beautiful knitting. I've really enjoyed watching this, thank you ladies.
I enjoyed watching this. I've bought and knitted a couple of Alison's patterns (ones that she showed here) they were a joy to knit but looking at those gorgeous socks, I can feel another pattern purchase coming! Beautiful colours and fabulous knitting - thank you.

I loved this. I've ordered a large amount of bare wool yarn, and I'm going to make smaller skeins, mordant most of it, and then dye the small skeins with different foraged and grown plants. Then I want to make a striped blanket of all hand dyed wools.
Just adding another plea to publish a book from this exhibition!! I feel so lucky to have seen it at Shetland Wool Week and to meet Shetlanders joyously reminiscing as they were seeing the photographs. I think a book would be a big hit!
Thank you! ❤
You're welcome 😊
I am an American knitter and spinner that has a special place for Shetland knitting. I really enjoy these videos that the trust puts out.
Thank you so much for letting us know you enjoyed it!
I love your life and what you're doing with it. Thanks for the inspiration. Will get going on one of your wonderful sock patterns. So lovely.
Do you have the name of the friend or family member she's sitting next to in the croft? That might be a lead to trace down. If you can find the other woman's descendants or something, show them that picture of their grandma and ask who's that woman wearing the Fair Aisle Allover sitting next to her.
Such a fabulous exhibition! I loved seeing it during Shetland Wool Week. Please please please publish a monograph of the collection!! I would love to purchase it and I’m sure many others would to!!
I would love some day to take the time and effort to make even a small version of these shawls. The lace weight yarn I use seems even too thick, so I’d have to find a good source of the thread.
Is dit oude wol
I have ancestors who knitted Canadian sweaters, and ancestors who were sheep herders, and yarn makers in the tehachapi mountains. The wool and yarn went to Canada and the lace went to Spain.
Oh I could crochet my bunnies all day a listen to them chat and knit.
Love this! Where can I buy your book?
Thank you, Alison! I learned so much by watching you. I've long been curious about how a knitting belt is used. As I age and arthritis grows in my hands, it looks like using a stationary needle requires less movement. I'd like to try it.
Wow just find your video those blue socks are beautiful...amazing..I would never be able to knit this...😊 Do you sell them? Everything you knitted is amazing. Well done to keep this tradition on..
A lightbulb moment.. I suddenly understand your explanation of turning the heel.. magic!!
It’s wonderful to see your culture and traditions. I hope you are not getting invaded like we are. 🇺🇸
Invaded by what?
Thank you so much for the video.
Thank you for this lovely video! I’m a knitter from a wilderness, forested part of the state of Nevada in the U.S.A . I have learned to knit fair isle in the last couple of years and have made 4 sweaters, and about 10 hats. I learned this year to use a knitting belt and long double point needles which has increased my speed considerably. I love this type of knitting above all others. I often knit outside, but where I live i have to keep a wary eye to spot the extremely large bears that frequent the forest. They have caused me to drop a stitch or two as I dash for the safety house when they approach.
I could just watch and learn for hours. Thank you for this video!
Wonderfully informative. Thank you
Finalmente una dimostrazione di e spiegazione delle maglie da prendere in giro alla base delle dita e come lavorare per non ar venire i buchetti. Grazie 👏
I raise Shetland sheep in the US and this is one of my favorite videos to watch and re-watch.
Great video ❤
I enjoyed this video so much!
Bought the pattern but I seem to stuck by the foot. Do not understand
Perfect- thank you!
So beautiful to listen to and watch. I am already a spinner but just learned so much more from watching this. ❤
I don’t know why you are not satisfied with that jumper, it’s beautiful and the colours are lovely. If you hadn’t said it was made of yarn leftovers no one would have guessed. It’s a beautiful tribute to your grandmother.
It’s amazing! I’m glad she never got rid of it. I loved when it cut to her her (granddaughter?) wearing it.
I love these videos. Thank you so much!
I’ve never attempted fairisle, but have always admired it. Are all garments knitted in the round? It must be lovely to be part of a knitting community. Really enjoyed your video. Very interesting and informative. Thank you.
Such an informative episode. Where is Bunchy's online shop? Beautiful natural colours from herbage.
The best method and explanation I’ve seen Thankyou
How inspiring is nature!
Just finished knitting my Fairag cardigan. Really enjoyed knitting this, the garment is so pretty and practical and I love wearing it. Thank you Elizabeth
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your gardens and world!
What a joy! Fantastic exploration of the knitting, complete treat to hear it spakin in Shetland ❤
