What Every Combo Sounds Like (1 - 34 Balls)
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
I always had this idea of doing a video where you can see and hear what each combo shot sounds like as you gradually progress 1 ball at a time. I'm happy to say that the end result is pretty satisfying. You can clearly hear how much faster each combo goes as the distance between the balls get smaller.

Effects of Clean vs Dirty Pool Balls
มุมมอง 48K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello and welcome to my channel where I make videos about pool. In this video I am demonstrating some of the differences between clean and dirty pool balls and how they play. I hope that you find this video informative and useful! Contents: 0:00 - Intro 0:19 - Equipment Used 0:53 - Visual Differences 1:22 - 1 Rail Kick 3:12 - 3 Rail Kick 3:45 - Slo-Mo 4:27 - Pocket Cheat 4:49 - Reverse English ...
Clean balls = more skid on the cloth While the dirty balls = more traction on the cloth
I'm confused, I would think you would get better results using "clean" balls, but your video shows the opposite in most situations. Why bother cleaning the balls then?
I would like see the steps you took to make your ball cleaner.
Thank you for the content. Question: Where did you purchase/find the blue decals that have been added to the table between the diamonds?
Good job and very well put together. You got a sub out of me.
Adam, so bottom line is . Can you get to that 8 ball with more power and speed to compensate? Often time i see that the 30 and 90 degree rule get mention , but it seem that the stun shot really doesn’t matter the angle, it will go 90 regardless. Then i use more power to draw further if my pocket angle is more full, and less power on a thinner one, Am i getting this correctly? I still see that it goes 90 degree or draw bigger angle but on fuller hit it really doesn’t travel as much. Sometimes i would cheat the pocket fuller to get position on balls that not too far away neither, but i do enjoy seeing people like you that can play with such soft speed and elegant
Very impressive. I like your clean balls better.
Impressive and eye-opening video. Really loved the shot with the slow motion and the laser. Very clear visually what was happening. Thanks for putting this together.
This was REALLY helpful. My buddy and I play on his outdoor table and we have noticed that over time, our shooting angles seem to cut a little tighter. We kept thinking it was the table/rails, but over MORE time, we were overly adjusting because of dirty balls + possible dust catching on the table during play. All of the examples you've shown here have highlighted my shooting errors I was having shooting on that table again, now we know we should probably clean the balls more often.
Now compare between the used and new cloth please..
Learned a lot here. Including that Americans call screw 'draw'. Did not know you could buy heavier balls either. Great vids on your channel.
Hey there! Your videos are good. You should at least put out one per month.
Dirty balls affect your play tremendously. Most of the manufacturers polish is made up of a lot of wax. Use a no wax plastic polish. Also, wipe your table cloth down with a wrung out terry cloth towel after play. This removes most of the chalk dust from your table cloth
Great video, very analytical. Hope you have more videos like this.
your pockets are so big i could cry
I know they are bigger than I would prefer. I will be trying to reduce the pocket size this year.
I would argue that your “clean” balls are actually too slick/slippery due to your cleaning method. If you’re using straight Aramith cleaning solution, it leaves a slight layer of wax-type substance on the balls that makes them slicker than they are when brand new. The sliding off kicks, ease of pocketing rail shots, and trouble getting good action from CB spin off rails this brings changes the game, and not in a good way imo. I prefer playing with balls that are CLEAN, but not slicked-up more than their new condition. So I use a mix of Aramith:Rubbing alcohol at 1:4 ratio in my ball cleaning machine. That leaves them with a very similar play as their condition when new. Artistic Billiards artists sometimes apply wax or silicone to balls to pull off amazing massé and other crazy spin shots. What your “clean” balls are doing is a mild version of that.
I agree that my results may be exaggerated from the "waxiness" of the cleaner. I could do some tests and see how these cleaning methods compare to one another. This could be another good topic to test but I think Dr Dave already covered this. This is honestly what caused me to want to make this video in the first place. When I clean the balls with the Aramith or Chem-Pak cleaner I will get wildly different cue ball action off the rails and cue. I now want to try your method and see how they feel. Thank you for your suggestion.
I always understood the ball to ball contact with clean vs dirty ,but didn’t realize how the slide on the rails came into play because the ball’s cleanliness. Very interesting. Thanks for that input
i shoot on 4 1/4 so lololol you cheat on that.. tell people it is with 5 ins pocket
Clever device. Good video!
Thanks!
Great Job Explained PERFECTLY !! No one ever explained pocket cheat this well.
Thanks Tony! You know how strongly I feel about pocket cheat!
Really cool test! The information taken away from this scientific experiment helps tremendously, thank you sir!
You are welcome and thank you!
Great video but you neglected to add so many negative side effects of dirty balls to this video. How about cling and reduced ability to draw a ball back. These are the two biggest problems
Thank you Ryan, I agree with you that there are many more side effects I could have covered. I probably should have stated that somewhere in the video. I wanted to focus on some of the tests that I haven't seen many others do. Cling has been covered thoroughly already by Dr Dave so I don't think I can add value in that topic. Your other subject of not drawing as much is something that I'm highly interested in testing. I've been wanting to make that a separate video but I haven't thought of a way to test it while eliminating human error. It's been on my mind for years now lol. If I had a robot that can shoot a pool cue that would be amazing :)
@bishopbilliards5650 . Upon my youtube reasearch of dirty cue balls I was amazed at how few videos there is on the topic. But it is such a deciding factor in pool that it cannot be understated. Great video and thanks for the reply. Keep playing!
@@RyanRants000 This is the exact reason I created this channel. If I think of an idea that has not been covered before (or very little coverage) I will try to make a video about it. This is the best thing I can hear from someone, thank you!
@@bishopbilliards5650 can you do cheap/worn felt vs high quality felt for masse and jump shots?
Nice job on the video, Adam!
Thanks Dr Dave!
Impressive. Never thought the differences could be that huge. Thanks!
Yea this has been something I've been wanting to test for ages so I'm glad you found it interesting!
I researched looking for this subject but on how to deal with it. I play at a dirty ass bar on Tuesdays and a pool hall that cleans their balls daily. My home table is newer Predator cloth and plays pretty fast. In general I'm quite satisfied with how I play at the pool hall but am practically going to be kicked off my team at the dirty ass bar. Besides the tables (diamond vs bar box) I really think that since I tend to play pocket speed and with touch the ball cling must be affecting me but I've not figured out how to deal with it. My team captain who is Vegas attending level says to play firmer but when I do I not only miss but then my position is total BS. I think I'll try to overcut for a while. See if that helps. Any advice would be fantastic.
Hi Brett, I'm not sure what you have discovered in your research but what you might want to look into is using Gearing Outside English on shots where you suspect throw might make miss. Throw's effect is greatest near slower half ball hits so you can decide to use it when needed. Dr Dave's video (th-cam.com/video/5C7143wIc-M/w-d-xo.html) might be helpful to you in making the dirtier balls play better. Let me know if this has been helpful, but I think you'll get a lot of bang for your buck spending time getting comfortable using Gearing Outside Spin.
Do you use the same type of balls? I can see that the two white balls are different of colour, in snooker sets these differences are there along with different weights
What size that table ?
It’s a 7ft Diamond Table.
Gives how to video of your ball cleaner.
That was very satisfying :)
stumble to this, deserved way way more view bro
Thank you! I thought it was a unique idea for a video. Glad you liked it.
Valley had a metal flake cue balls very heavy the extra weight made using it to plow thru any clusterI won a 96 man tournament by knowing of it mass and power.
Wow I never knew that the reason balls go wider is that the extra friction kills the top spin with dirty balls, but with clean balls it is like catching a half ball contact with top spin - you get throw... th-cam.com/video/iHig6t_JymY/w-d-xo.html
Love this! So interesting how the time from cb impact to ob going in slowed down the more contacts, you had, but then sped up again when the distance between the balls became very small.
Thank you, glad you loved this!
This was more interesting even than the last one that I watched.
Thank you! Glad you liked them both.
This was cool.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
A-10 Warthog..... BRRRAT
sounds like a cat singing to mate
Great video! Next one should be about new vs worn out cloth. I was recently playing that three cushion shot in a bar with dirty balls and the trajectory was the same as with the clean balls in your video. My guess is that the worn out cloth masks it slip and the ball had no traction on it.
I've always been curious of what 34 ball combos sound like lol
Me too! Lol
Finally we know.
I think if we go to a regular pool hall, although they clean their pool balls. The dust on the table and also our hands will eventually make it dirty within a few racks. Unless we're playing in a tournament that the judge will use a glove to clean the ball and vacuum the table after each use.
Which shot was the hardest?
Shots 4 - 8 were the hardest. As the balls got the closer the shots became easier.
Wow.. this should be taught in physics classes or something like that. I'm bad at physics, but i'm 100% sure that with a cool professor who knows his stuffs about frequency or something like that, can come up with a wonderful talk on this subject...
:S
bishop (chess) + billards?
I just learned how to play chess recently. I'm not very good at it so I wouldn't know how to combine the 2 together lol
@@bishopbilliards5650 i see haha
Nice video! How do you draw the CB path in the video?
Thank you! I use an app that's actually meant for Disc Golf called "Ace Trace". The app allows you to trace the path of your disc after you throw it but I had the idea of using it for pool instead LOL
@@bishopbilliards5650 that's so clever!
@@bishopbilliards5650 Thank you for that Adam BB ;-) Are the blue lines (here th-cam.com/video/QnmoyFdv3JQ/w-d-xo.html ) showing the tangent line and the in off / scratch line lasers from the ceiling, or masking tape, or software based? Great work on these videos - i can see the time and passion that has gone into it!
@@bishopbilliards5650 And Ace Trace is on your phone on android? Or can be on a PC. I just had a look at their site and it seems it is only for android devices...?
The two lines represent the tangent line and a natural rolling path. The lines are on there from my projection system called Projection Pro Billiards. And thank you for noticing all the time that goes into these. I have made 3 other videos but haven't posted them because of all the time and effort it takes to edit them. Hoping to have one of them posted this month relating to "Pocket Cheat". Fingers crossed!
Bro such good content, subscribed
No I kept it straight to keep it simple. It took me 595 sticker placements over 3 days to do this!
Did you try to bend it around? It should work.
No I kept it straight to keep it simple. It took me 595 sticker placements over 3 days to do this!
@@bishopbilliards5650 3 days? Are you really bad at pool..? This is a very easy shot lol
I was very precise with each sticker placement. Every ball placement is perfectly and evenly placed within a quarter of an inch. That was the most time consuming aspect of this video.
Nice
Thanks!
Can I ask are you using a cleaning fluid? I clean my set with washing up liquid and rise off I find the balls although clean still retain friction. I believe that it is the residue that ball cleanings leave that adds to the problem. I would used the ball cleaner to restore shine but would still hand wash any cleaning solutions after. Thoughts pls.
Dr Dave's video might be helpful to your question. th-cam.com/video/_taEBDVQBYQ/w-d-xo.html
Cleaning in necessary often. But, you should also have them polished once in awhile. The balls gets a lot of micro scratches.
The results from the dirty balls seem favorable but apparently you have to factor the new response once you clean you “pool “ balls.😏 Definitely agree with previous posts, your delivery and comparisons are excellent and the laser line reference was a nice added touch. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! It's been a while since I've posted but I should have a new video coming out this month.
