Awesome as always Jerry! Of course, I have both of these releases. I actually have the previous release as well but these releases look much better and like you said, great packaging. I think I described the fish-man as a cross between the Creature From The Black Lagoon and the sleestacks from Land Of The Lost. I don't know if that's how you spell sleestacks. I didn't realize that boat was named Reptilicus. And yes I know what a 45 is and a 78 as well. Anyway, always full of great information.
Quite unique films! Manfish! 😂😂
Thanks Jerry. Applaud your review of films unfamiliar to most viewers. Really interesting set, will investigate further. As for October horror/sci-fi, just finished watching my latest purchase, Invasion of the Body Snatchers 4k 1978. Had not seen in couple decades, had forgotten how good it is, stunning non digital special effects, eeriest soundtrack ever, great transfer, just fantastic, and imo maybe the best ever ending scene. I searched your channel didn't find commentary on that film, maybe in future:)
Thanks for the positive feedback. I’m also a fan of the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and of course the original is a classic.
Thanks for a fair and interesting review. This was really a film before its time. Other home invasion movies preceded it: "The Desperate Hours" and "Cape Fear," for example. But this one was surprising for its brutality. And yet, this sub-genre has become more and more brutal over the years. "Lady in a Cage" holds up well as a taut, nasty thriller that paved the way for other films to follow.
Nice video! Brainiac intentionally funny at times. Everyone working on it knew their craft. Hopefully, this is only the beginning. El Vampiro to be released in a few weeks!
@@danwood4631 Yes, looking forward to that release. Indicator always does a great job.
Great review! Amazing cast!
Great reviews! Unique films!
Kaz, any insight if Hardly a Criminal 1949 will be getting a release? I heard UCLA had worked on restoring? thanks Jason
I had to look that one up-it’s looks very promising. Eddie Muller does an Ask Eddie feature on Facebook occasionally; I’ll try to ask him next time. If anyone knows, he does.
Great stuff as usual! I love those Film Masters releases. I just watched Dr. terror's House of Horrors last week and I liked it. I would love to see a review of Crimson Peak. I got the 4k of it but haven't watched it yet. I watched "In The Moscow Slums last night and thought it was really good. It's a detective movie with neither of the two main characters being real detectives. It's a Deaf Crocodile release. They have a really nice deluxe edition of it. Anyway, thanks and hope you reach your next subscriber goal soon.
Thanks for your continued support!
I've also had some QC problems with direct orders from Criterion, which have mainly been cosmetic. For example, the case artwork for my "Lost Highway" Blu-Ray was inserted in such a sloppy manner that it was sticking out on one side and all wrinkled up on the other. Similarly, the artwork for my "Forty Guns" DVD was inserted backwards, which became apparent when opening the case - the disc and booklet positions were opposite of normal. Finally, I had a "floater" with my "Carnival of Souls" Blu-Ray, which appeared scratched, but thankfully it played perfectly.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎥 the BEST. Thank you from Spain, Jerry 🎞️ 🎞️
Canvas as a screen and the screen as canvas. You said, you´re not in avantgarde art, but isn´t this your problem and not Lynch´s? Let´s add the digital camera as Lynch´s scalpel that, this time, denies, destructs, devours the Hollywood "grand format", this "Inland Empire", from the inside out (the frog eye close-ups, yes!, questions, exclamation points), to a much more radical extent than ever before. After this three hour exorcism, there won´t be any other long film by Lynch anymore, no movie, no streaming device. It´s over. Everything is said and done. In April 1990 I could attend a media conference in Zürich with Jean-Luc Godard. He presented his new (and outstanding) movie "Nouvelle Vague" and he said some great sentences I kept. To me, the most important one was: "Il n´y pas à comprendre, il y a à entendre." I listened to some guys in the theater, when I watched "Inland Empire" at the Stadtkino Basel again, some days ago. I immediately recalled Godard´s sentence. I really recommend it to you.
Enjoyed, thanks Jerry.
My pleasure. Thanks for watching!
I actually really enjoyed "getting into the weeds" of Double Indemnity. It was not the first film noir (some say 1940's "Stranger on the Third Floor"?), but it feels something like the movie where all (or most) of the elements of noir really came together, and it's just a great movie. I do agree with you about the "What he did not, could not know..." That drove me crazy to the point that I was wondering at one point if I wanted to keep reading! Glad I did, though, as overall I thought this was an excellent look at the roots, the making of, and the impact of a great film. 4 out of 5 stars for me.
@@steveabel7066 Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comments!
Thought the same thing about 'The Big Goodbye: Chinatown and the Last Years of Hollywood' by Sam Wasson, although it was really readable
@@AndyKing1963 I found that one more readable than this Double Indemnity book.
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 I'll skip that then ;)
Frank Capra, the catastrophe of success by Joseph Mcbride. Pretty devastating look at the director, s life and career. Dark City by Eddie Muller and Dark City Dames by the same author.
@@maartenlemmens8628 I have Dark City, but need to check out the others. Thanks.
It s on my wish list.
Looks like a very good read! I'll check it out. Classic movie.
TCM shows Double Indemnity frequently--every two months? Regarding movie books: I am not the expert but from the classic era of Hollywood anything by David Niven is great. Bring on the Empty Horses and The Moon is a Balloon are well known. Errol Flynn wrote My Wicked Wicked Ways which is an absolute essential read for any movie buff. Great book.
I always forget to mention TCM. Thanks!
I believe most of the scenes with the horses was to help build the character and actually show us how capable she was, so when she runs away from the maniac doesn’t seen unbelievable, it actually seems like the best thing to do. Great video anyways!
the erudition!
@@sidharper7927 Me? Erudite?🙃
Great video Jerry! I can't tell you how many times I picked up more than I was going to. I went to my local Barnes and Noble hoping to get some titles, but they didn't have much. I saw The Shootest many times as a kid and loved it. I actually was able to get that Crimson Peak 4k box a little while back but haven't watched it yet. Anyway, Great stuff as usual.
Those look like very good purchases, I’ll check out Barnes & Noble tomorrow!
Why are these movies only on region A? Why not make your releases multiregion like many other companies do, Arrow?🤔
@@maartenlemmens8628 My understanding is that 4K editions are region free.
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013unfortunately the Tin Star and scarface mob are not 4k.😒
Regarding Ketchum, I've read The Offspring but have not seen the film. Pretty harrowing book. Ketchum had a knack for the disturbing. The Tin Star is definitely on my want list.
Patrick McGoohan said he had no idea how to end The Prisoner and that's clear when we watch the finale. Still, it was a fun show. When I was young, I was captivated by 'Rover' the security balloon. I still watch the intro from time to time for the nostalgia. If you ever watch the Hammer House of Horror series (1980), there's an episode called 'The House That Bled to Death'. I believe it's on series one, episode five. I actually lived next door to that house! I can't remember how good/bad the episode was though. 🙃
Phenomenal movie and Dexter Gordon is the perfect guy to play the character
Awesome stuff as always! I'm all about discovering new movies. I have gotten several movies that I could only find used copies of the movie on eBay. Thanks for the Great reviews.
Thanks Jerry!
Seen it, loved it!❤
@@maartenlemmens8628 Check out The Aura also, in case you missed that one by the same writer-director.
Great reviews as always! Interesting films!
Nice collection of films. Very engaging reviews!
Did you think The House That Screamed looked a bit odd? The transfer seems to look rather pink. I have an old DVD that never looked like that. 🤔
@@simonfilmfan4899 Honestly, I don’t recall noticing that. I’ll have to look again.
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 It's a good transfer. But pink seems to dominate.
Hey Jerry, totally enjoyed as always. I think I have only one Arrow in my smallish collection of 3 years, True Romance 4k; I need more arrow, will investigate some of your suggestions. I note that you too like to screen a title via streaming if possible before buying discs. As much as I love Criterion titles, I've got a couple or three blind buys I regret, all at the time were not streaming on Criterion Channel. Tubi is my favorite free streamer as they have tons of really good movies and new discoveries awaiting. EDIT: Just checked Arrow/B&N, and much excited about upcoming Nov. release by Arrow of A Simple Plan 4k! Saw that streamed a few years ago and totally loved it, but the blu-ray has been out of print and/or very hard to find and at inflated eBay price. It's got that Fargo type feel, but not a copy, very original and Billy Bob Thornton and Bill Paxton paired and cast perfectly imo...I will 1000% be buying that disc.
@@pete49327 A Simple Plan is excellent, but I used it so many times in my film class that I’ll probably never watch it again. ( I have the DVD version.) Like you, streaming has saved me from buying films I didn’t much care for, but I also have a few blind buys I regret. I want to purge my collection a bit, but find it difficult to get rid of any Criterion discs for some reason-even ones I don’t like. Thanks for watching!
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 Yes, watching a film that many times can do that😄
Croupier is streaming on Prime Video (other places, too, like tubi which has I've noticed has had a lot of good stuff this year so far, but if you have Prime you can watch it without ad interruptions so that's the one I plan on using) if anyone was curious. I haven't watched it yet but I added it to my watchlist and happened to notice on letterboxd. Thanks again for the recommendations
Will Amazon be mirroring the Arrow B&N sale like they do with Criterion's B&N sale?
@@313haziq I just looked up some of the titles I discussed, and Amazon is not matching the prices. That could change though, so you may want to keep checking.
The Killing is my favorite. Quintessential noir
The two trailers I've seen for this movie are great. Both different.
is it possible that a cinematic version of True Tales from the Teacher Trenches is in the works?!
Now that would be something!🤓
Getting my Criterion 4K edition of Lone Star today actually. Number 62 (CRITERION, most in plastic still), so I have a ways to go, and that's impossible as it's moving faster than light the way they're pumping them out. Why Criterion doesn't have either, No Country For Old Men, Assassination of Jesse James, and There Will Be Blood is odd. It'll happen.
Huh, glad I clicked on this, I think you have huge potential. I'm a Criterion hunter mostly, ( why I dug your closet idea), but I'm a huge film nerd. Good luck.
@@scottboyd3838 Thank you for the positive feedback!
One of my favorites, such a good film. The music and nostalgia factor is great. It really is a classic. 😭❤️
I like this film too. Mainly, it's nostalgic and Poitier is so good. Is it a realistic rendering of teaching? Not really. I echo your comments about teaching kids how to enter a classroom correctly. I also helped kids with such things as how to tie a tie. I used to wear a tie to work! Little things like that are fun and, actually, helpful. Good memories. Being alone in the classroom with a student: Run to the door! Make sure a fellow teacher sees you. I felt sometimes a student did that on purpose. Yeah, they were usually too shy to ask a question in front of their classmates, but sometimes you got a sense that something wasn't copacetic. If you're willing to continue the theme, I recommend Goodbye Mr. Chips (1939). Robert Donat. Great film. Greer Garson. You'll cry in that one, too.
@@ChrisSamsell Thanks for watching and commenting. You reminded me that I’ve also helped students with their ties.
Great commentary of one of my favorite movies. Teacher movies sure touch our teacher hearts, don’t they?
@@mackiekazdoy For sure- I’m a sucker for a good teacher movie.
@@thekazdoyclosetwithjerryka1013 Class of 1984. One of the best 😁

Thanks for posting! I was looking for this film, after reading about tRUMP'S dishonor towards American soldiers. Gracias!
Feels oddly prescient for the times we live in. The whole "diversity is our strength" crowd keeps getting sucker punched in the streets of their utopias.
I,m reminded of the Frank Zappa song Cheepnis for some reason. 🙄 its about the movie It conquered the world, an early Corman movie.
@@maartenlemmens8628 Now talk about a deep (and very appropriate) cut!
It surprises me how many cheap B movies get an expensive bluray release, while many more deserving films are left on the shelf. I guess there is a market for them. 🤔
@@maartenlemmens8628 Maybe it also has to do with what rights they can obtain, but I avoid getting into the weeds on that.
