How to prep a Gypecrete substrate for Large Format Porcelain Tile.
มุมมอง 12K10 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows how to prepare a substrate for Porcelain Tile. Gypcrete is a poor substrate to bond tile to. Tile Council of North America (TCNA) recommends installation of a primer & membrane to gypcrete and then bond the tile to the membrane. You are very limited on options on how to prep the floor.

Tearout & Removal of Ceramic Tile with ride on machine.
มุมมอง 3.6K11 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows our ride on tearout machine. This project is in a Hotel Lobby that we remodeled and we are tearing out ceramic tile and thinset mortar. The blade on the machine has a carbide tip. We use a different 6" wide blade to scrape off the thinset mortar after the tile is removed. It is mandatory to scrape off the thinset to get a nice smooth substrate so the new flooring and adhesive o...
Tearout & removal of direct gluedown carpet with enhancer (attached cushion) backing.
มุมมอง 2.5K11 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows our ride on tearout machine. This project is in a Hotel Lobby that we remodeled and we are tearing out commercial gluedown carpet with attached cushion that was glued directly to the concrete. The blade on the machine has "dicer blades" that automatically cut the carpet. This eliminates the need for a worker to cut it by hand with a utility knife ahead of time. In addition the ...

Patterned carpet Bow and Skew
มุมมอง 5K11 ปีที่แล้ว
All patterned carpet has bow and skew to the pattern. Each factory has a different percentage tolerance for this (ie: no more than 1.5" in a span of 12'). If the carpet is being stretched in some of the pattern bow and skew can be elinated. Also, if there are multiple rolls for the project - some factories require that the carpet panels be sequenced or installed in a sequence (ie: the last cut ...
Installation of Crack Isolation Membrane and Primer.
มุมมอง 59K11 ปีที่แล้ว
How to install peel and stick crack isolation membrane. This is used on concrete slabs with cracks and potential lateral movement. The membrane will reduce the likelihood of the new tile we are installing from cracking due to lateral movement in the concrete slab. The membrane does not protect tile from cracking from vertical movement in the substrate. In this installation we are installing lar...

Are you guys using my pay 185 to double stick it on, yeah we always see a super 3S double stick. I’m surprised he didn’t put down tackstrips to tuck too
Are you guys using my pay 185 to double stick it on, yeah we always see a super 3S double stick
Are you guys using my pay 185 to double stick it on
Kind of giggling that you pull that carpet on that pad 200 feet down the hallway
You guys should use a Lino roller to pull out the carpet as I used to do a lot of federal buildings with 365 foot long hallways, and or for the carpet half 6 foot and rolled out and shifted over. I’m sure you like the way you do it and whatever to each its own but the roller will make your life easy.
For a real double stick you should have tax trip down to do it right
You have no idea what you’re talking about. It’s a glue down installation- why would you need tackstirip? You’re not stretching the carpet in.
Great video
Beautiful job
What kind of installation it’s that’s ? How could be ripped up the carpet and glue when client wants to replace that carpet ? Glued spreaded at whole floor besides glue over the whole padding .. that it’s not the right installation …where it’s the tacks strips? There are only 2 ways to don this installation: Only glue down carpet.. tacks strips and padding..
This is woven carpet. I do not recommend stretching woven carpet because it does not stretch very well. It’s much better to glue it down. Se the manufacturers installation instructions.
It looks good 👍
That looks like a lot of work! How much does a double stick pay a sqft???
Great job guys!!!
This is great, but I cannot cross brace against glass, how else can I brace? I have a Cultured ¼” marble solid slab shower wall (2-1/2 sides) panels enclosed with glass. One slab is coming off the wall on one corner, where my door is now not level. Half wall and doors are glass. Do you have a way to glue and PUSH/BRACE back to the wall?
This was recorded with a fermented potato.
Amateur hour
Glad to see you take seam sealing seriously.
Most guys do these in as few pieces as possible and seam on the doorways to reduce head seams. I’ve never cut these any shorter than the roll length. The way you did it does eliminate all the side seams and makes it 1000 times easier to handle though. But you’re adding head seams . Interesting
What material do you use to glue this?
100 percent silicone big tubes
I found this a little too satisfying Carpet/vinyl layer from Australia
Beautiful work!
Doing a job of carpet tile on wood and I’m having a hard time getting the pad up
How do you take this shit up
It can be difficult especially if it’s over gypcrete. There are electric scrapers and ride on Terminator machines. Make sure you’re aware what you’re getting into before you bid the job. The tear out can take days and days. Do some test areas and charge a lot if it’s difficult. Good luck.
It was for a store so they bid it. I made sure there was a massive up charge. I rented an electric push behind and it’s working. And we’re sprinkling filler as we take up glue and then full spreading a skim coat level with floor patch
I do flooring in Hilton hotels all the patterns are wild and everywhere to help make this part easier and it hides stains well never used seam glue boss always said its overpriced Elmer's glue
Hey I would like to get in touch and ask few questions..any email address?
If you don’t seal the seams, you would be fired from most companies. Some companies will use a hand held black light to check for seam sealer
who makes that scraper? I need one of those!
Cardboard for protection. Good move bro
The correct way is to use paint roller pressure sensitive under the pad
Why is the paint roller the correct way of applying pressure sensitive opposed to troweling ?
@@metzade to get the correct use of a pressure sensitive glue. If I would have to replace carpet then should be able to actually roll pad right off the floor, if useing treadmore. A trowel puts it at a mechanical bond
Hope you priced this job out right!? No surprises!! Take up, double install about $9.00per yd?
Looks real good guys!!! Nice job!!! I'm retired but was a Sub for 30 of my 47, years!!!
On one side row trim same row at each out crop then set you line to see if all is Sq with wall an line in middle then adjust accordingly
Hi, great instruction video. We have Gypcrete floor for carpeting before and now we want to do self-stick vinyl tiles from Armstrong. What would you recommend us to do as far as the type of primer to seal the underlayment? Hopefully we don't need to do self leveling concrete. The existing floor is pretty level. Thanks for your help. Tommy.
Wow Al you on here saying professional. And 2 bucks a square foot? You better look that up because I'm one of 2 installers where I live that Thai ping will only release the carpet if they know I'm installing it and no other installer is allowed to touch it. I get 20.00 a yard . DNT believe me look up the rate for installation nationwide or just call Ron at Thai ping. Second you never ever roll on pressure sensitive glue for the pad. And most importantly you shouldn't even use it. A lot of failures. Your taking a carpet that averages 80 to 130.00 a square yard, and you're waiting for a failure to happen. The manufacturer doesn't recommend this procedure any more. Second you laddered the pad and pulled the carpet against the pad seams. Very easy to loosen the edges and you'll end up with more bubbles than what your already gonna have from not using regular glue with an rca carpet notch and a top quality glue. Also when you used the seam sealer, you can take isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the wet sealer and it dries it immediately. No waiting. For the sealer to dry. It dries instantly. I've been doing patterns from Thai ping, axminster before they went out of business and where tookin over for 38 years and have done everything from just stairs to casinos with axminster and can't believe you rolled on pressure sensitive glue. Remember, the back of the pad is porus and regular glue penetrates it. Sorry but that kind of install is set up for failure. I seen it 1000 times. Hence why they do not recommend pressure sensitive at all anymore.
Your criticism lacks credibility. I’ve installed multiple hotel corridors with woven wool carpets using this exact technique and have had no failures. This particular job is 8 years old and it looks as nice as the day we installed it. By the way $2 per square foot equals $18 per square yard. It seems from your comment that you couldn’t figure that out.
Lacks credibility you say? Hmm ..by my comment and education on what I spelled out in my comment has alot of credibility. Failures..I've had to go to my local casinos to do major repairs because of pressure sensitive ...bubbles everywhere. I'll give you credit because everything else you're doing is spot on.
Hopefully no one actually uses this method to install because it’s incorrect and cutting the back panel and seaming back together is the wrong way to do it as well as takes away from the look of the surrounds
Exactly and this method is time consuming
Seems like tile would be cheaper and easier?
Great job guys 👍
Cutting the length to get it thru the door is very unprofessional and lazy.
The only other way to get the full panel in the room without cutting it is to TAKE OUT ENTIRE DOOR AND WALL! This would add about $1000 in costs to each bathroom and for the project it would add about $130,000. is that the way you would do it Marlon Martinez?
In my experience,, working for a marble company going on ten years the other way around making that cut is to turn that panel on its side and stand it up as you make it through the door if the bathroom allows for it. Sometimes you have to split the walls but to me it looked like a 5x94 in wall so on it’s side would fit through a standard door opening. Just my opinion with experience but there has been instances where there isn’t room in the bathroom to make that possible which in that case you have to do what these guys did and split the wall, but it did look like there was plenty of room to get it through in one piece. It looked to me like the installers just didn’t have very much experience working with big panels like these. We have installed hundreds of shower walls from mincey marble as well for a hotel in Stillwater ok.
Mitch31991 I do similar panels on hotels. Hilton and Marriott. It can be a pain, but they can be carried in on it’s side and stood up inside the bathroom. Even with vanity and toilet installed.
Sergey Pober I agree it could’ve definitely been done, it just makes the job a little more difficult but the results are much better for the customer in my opinion.
Mitch31991 We have successfully completed 5 different hotel projects and are very well experienced. As stated in the comment before it was impossible to get the full back panel through the door and then turned and then stood upright. That is why it was cut. You and all the others have absolutely no clue what you’re talking about.
what is the cost for installation and how does it compare to installing tiles?
How much it cost per sqft
How much you charge a yard on this ? It's top notch work ! Really intrested in the price please get back to me
depends on what part of the country you live and your market. our market has high labor costs. for these corridors and all the doorways and insets I would charge about $2 per square foot + materials
This great your using the same iron I use Taylor but instead of laytex I use a gule gun with the new tip from gunldlanch with seamtape gluestiks. I'm I doing things wrong I could always go back to using lattex if my system not a desireable one.please ler me know thanks😎🏁🇺🇸
P C your videos are aussme. But I've got a question im in South FL. And hav a chance to place a bid on a larger double stick I will be mesmerising this video. I was hoping you could email me a guide line for pricing out the labor cost for my bid any help would be greatly appreciated/russsherry75@gmail.com😎🏁🇺🇸

Very nice job,and technique.Carpet installation is a dying trade. These younger guys, just dont wanna do this anymore.Especially the correct way.Cheers mate 👌🏻
Will7311 S because the pay isn’t worth the effort dying trade yet we get paid shit “that’s why it’s a dying trade”. I rather go work at Amazon and make the same amount of money I’m made as a carpet installer. Difference would be I get 3days off, won’t hurt my body, I get breaks and benefits with amazon as for working as a carpet installer I only get 1 day off get out of work late and I break down my body. The only person who makes money in carpet are the store owners and contractor while the employee is expected to kill themselves working to only shit pay. Fact is being a carpet installer is a dying trade because there are a lot of higher paying trades then carpet installation. Oh and I forgot to mention that as a carpet installer you don’t constantly work 6 days a week. Things start to die down and you are left home without work because there is no work
@@dominguezp12 true bro there's highs and lows right now I'm struggling sitting on an all time low been doing this for 7 years shit gets tiring
Neat video, carpet/floorlayer Scotland 😎
12 years ago I'd never thought I'd ever watch something like this. Wow on time and video production.
Looks like a good economic way of doing things for things like a rental unit. I have a couple of questions though. What is the brand name of this peel and stick mat? And does it come in a Noise Reduction or IIC Rated option, that is also suitable for Vinyl Sheets?
after removing the majority of the pad off the the floor why not use a scrape away to get all the little stuff stuck to the floor?
looks great , i use to do marriot hotels up n down the east coast .... many corridors and ballrooms , border work out the ass , mirror images , double and triple borders .... the patterns were wild as hell ! thank god im doing houses now lol whole lot less work ! anyway , looks really good ! keep on keepin on ! carpet life ! lol
My kind of carpet installers making big jobs look easy no messy about no fancy tools just what you need to do the job and skill nice job guys. DARN IT!! Haha
