As I mentioned on two of your R95 30-30 Win videos I am waiting on one in 360 Buckhammer. I now live in Ohio and need a straight wall cartridge. So I am looking forward to trying it out and like you mentioned most places only have those Remington and Federal loads. I will see how it goes and might eventually reload.
Pretty good shooting at 100. I saw others mention retesting the first two especially since they did so well at 50. You mentioned a vast improvement. Everything was minute of deer and the last 4 were good enough that people shooting a bolt action rifle would be happy with those results. I’m excited to get my R95 in 360 Buckhammer and do something similar
@@TheWVgoodguy22 thanks for watching a good luck with your new rifle.
That’s some sweet shooting there. Even for 50 yards. I recently ordered a Rossi R95 in 360 Buckhammer. Hopefully 🤞🏻 it will shoot as well as that. But I will try with irons first
Those Norma's are loaded pretty hot. I noticed similar results with norma in 308 & other calibers too. They are kinda hot. I've had pretty good results with them tho.
Made up my mind I'll save my money stick with my 30-30 and my 30-06
My 17’s in Savage and Marlin love the Hornady 17 Vmax!
Nice walk-around. I like the way you paused on different views so as to afford a good look from different angles. Do the windows slide open horizontally, and do they have screens?
@@jackmiller5147 the windows do open horizontally and they do have screens. It’s a cool little camper and all I need, Thanks for watching.
Seems like it isn’t very picky with ammo. Especially the 150 grain. A heavier weight may shoot even better.
@@JonFox-t5x I tried 165 and 170 and it didn’t like either load.
@ Thank you. I’m going to get one of those R95’s. I have an R92 in triple black. 357 mag. I did an action job on it and I’m very happy with it. Very smooth and accurate. I hear the R95 models are good to go out of the box.
After shooting those three groups at 50 yds, my first thought was, why waste anymore ammo at 100? Good decision lol. I've had good groups with the 160gr in my Marlin 336XLR (24" barrel) than you're getting, but I just don't like the bullet. I get the same velocity with the 150gr. I've gotten good accuracy with the Federal Hammer Down ammo at 100yds. Right at 1". Deer MOA for me. 3 touching at 50yds. I have a 2x7,32 scope so at 100 I think it shoots pretty good. There's a real good channel that does ballistic testing on all ammo (Mason Outdoors) and you should check out his videos on the Federal Bonded soft point and the Hammer Down. I shoot the Hammer Down now.
@@easttexan2933 thanks for the comment and for watching the video. I have watched the videos from Mason Outdoors, he has some good ballistic gel tests. I also am using the Hammer Down based off of my testing.
@@sprucehilloutdoors outstanding !! good luck this season.
@@easttexan2933 good luck to you as well.
Out of my ruger american 350 the best ammo is the hornady 170 gr with 4 shot groups at 100 yrds holes touchin
Hello everyone! I have a question about choosing the right rail for the Savage 93R17 GLV .17HMR rifle. I’m planning to mount the Hikmicro Alpex 4K A50EL scope, but I’m not sure which rail would be the best fit for this model. I’m particularly interested in a low-profile rail that works well with this rifle.
@@wyprawywedkarskiemagikaips1798 my rifle has built in scope mounts so I did not need a rail for mine. If yours has built in mounts you can adjust the height by getting low rings, or medium depending on what works with your scope. Thanks for watching.
Is that a shotgun🥺😂
150 gr seems to be the ticket for this rifle. Did you try heavier bullets at all?
@@RJ-qq8kb yes I tried 165 grain and 170 grain and it didn’t care for either one. It wasn’t terrible but not a tight group like the 150 grain, thanks again for watching.
What power was your scope on while sighting in?
@@RJ-qq8kb I always sight in at 9 power then after it’s sighted in I’ll shoot one at 5 power and then 3 power and it’s always been right on. Thanks for watching.
@ Sounds good. As a range safety officer assisting hunters prior to deer season here in MN, I’ll have them sight in at low power 3-4 to reduce the scope’s halo effect, then go up from there if need be. I appreciate your common sense content.👍
@@RJ-qq8kbthanks for watching and the comment
I just bought my first Savage 93r17. I only had it out once, but I'm looking forward to spending more time with it. I wish mine had threads. Can beat the price for the amount of fun.
Hi. I wonder if the 16.5 Trapper model would like the same ammos?
@@Daniel-xq7ny the only way to know is to test them in the gun. I would think most likely it would be similar or maybe yours may like a different one better.
@@sprucehilloutdoors federal fusion 150gr should be spot on. Thanks
Good show a lot of people on fb groups are complaining about the Henry rifle not grouping
@@willisblevins4190 I honestly believe Henry makes a great rifle. I showed that it is capable of shooting a good group, that Federal 180 at 100 yards was a great group. I don’t believe it’s the rifle to blame for peoples bad groups, I more believe it’s the lack of quality factory ammo. I could only find Remington and Federal ammo and only in 180 grain and 200 grain. I believe this may shoot better with a 170 grain or even a 165 grain bullet, I don’t believe anyone makes them in this caliber. If more companies start making ammo for the gun I believe with experimentation you could find an even better load for this gun. Thanks for your comment and for watching the video.
Remember, most people that talk about accuracy are trying to do it through iron sights, and not properly zeroed optics. Or they put a red dot on top. Others don't have proper shooting skills either as the trigger pull is not the same as a typical bolt action. I see it all the time at the range people using modern bolt guns missing paper at 25 to 50 yards; a guy was doing it yesterday with the 30 ought 6 and missed four times just trying to get on paper. At 100 yd and 20 rounds later, only three splatter blasts were within 5 in of the target On my rifle, I have a Trijicon acupoint 1x4 mountain with a green triangle reticle as it's perfect for 150 yards or less--I also shoot it suppressed, and non-suppressed. I can reach out to 200 and still obtain a 2.5 MOA. I also have it zeroed at 160 yd. With that said, I typically run PowerShock, or hammer down 150 grain for the 30-30, as well as 170 grain fusion bullets. All of the ammo will group 1.2 or less MOA or less consistently. With that said, I also went through six different cartridges and weights to determine what my rifle like the best.
Every rifle is different. My Marlin likes 'em hot. I use H4895 max loads, 150 gr. Sierras. It also likes Leverevolution, which is a pretty hot load. I tried IMR 3031. It is OK but not as good as the H4895. I have some H335 but haven't tried it yet. I think it is more the velocity (and the bullet) than the powder, but that's just my uneducated opinion. You are on the right track with your testing, plus it's fun to go shoot.
So it looks like the Rossi may have a faster twist rate and so it's going to like heavier bullets or the higher velocity bullets in the 150 grain. It'll be interesting to do with a chronograph to verify this.
I tried 170 grain, and it did not group as well as the 150 grains, I also tried the 160 grain, and it did not like those either. It seemed to like the 150 grains in various brands.
I have the same rifle, love it. 1” group @ 100 yards with the Hornady American whitetail 150 grain Interlock. Tried other brands but not as good of a group.

What model American do you have. Thanks for sharing.
@@jimcase5841 it’s a Ruger American Ranch, 350 Legend. Has a 16 1/2 inch barrel and threaded for muzzle brake or compensator.
@@sprucehilloutdoors thank you. Great looking gun. Illinois has a one cartridge regulation so I am trying to decide if bolt action like yours or single shot like Henry makes most sense.
@@jimcase5841 the Henry single shot is good too. I don’t know why they have to put that kind of restriction, here in Pennsylvania I think it’s limited to three.
Zero at 75yrd you'll be an inch low at 25 and inch high at 125.

I hate the low comb of the but stock, the Henry's just don't fit me well as I need to scope my rifles (old poor eyes). I think Henry is a great company, I would buy their products if it was not for my fit problem. But if others like the stock, I accept it is what it is.
@@pseudopetrus I agree and thanks for the comment.
Hey buddy, Take a look at my vid on the Rossi R95 ejector fix and tell me if your Rossi drags the bolt heavily along the top of the hammer ....im curious to what itbers think.

@@PanfishingJournal love the Rossi, it has a smooth action and great trigger and shoots very well.

I think I'd throw out that rest and I'd handload. Single shot rifles can be tricky. A 3" group is bound to give you much worse results off hand.
درود، فوق العاده بود. لطفا با تفنگ های لور اکشن برنامه بزارید
I picked one of these up a few months ago. I haven't gotten to do load development yet tho. If I may, I do gunsmith work as a hobby, you might know already but on a tube feed magazine, that's attached to the barrel, tgey are best tested single feed because if there is rounds in the magazine, the barrel harmonics change with each shot.
@@H.R.6688 thanks for watching and for the comment, I’ll keep that in mind.
@@sprucehilloutdoors oh and if you need to drift the front sight, be careful. Because mine was extremely tight and wound up pulling the threads out of the barrel. So I suggest to anyone to remove it from the barrel before drifting it. They are 6-42 threads btw. I got new ones at ace hardware.
@@H.R.6688 thanks for the info, hope I never have to do that.
@@sprucehilloutdoors no problem, otherwise it's a good rifle from what I've seen. Mine shot really low so I had to replace the front sight with one much shorter, that's how I know.
Couple of tips. Rifles with two-piece stocks usually shoot better when rested on the frame or just forward of that. Second, parallax can be an issue with fixed-focus scopes at close range set at high power. The low comb of the Henry can make it difficult to stay centered behind the eyepiece, which reduces the effect. I had an early Henry .308, one subject to the trigger recall. It would group my standard handload sub-moa for three at 100. It was damaged on its way back from the recall, and the replacement barrel was less accurate. I still have a .410 and a .357, and like them a lot. I’d like to see Henry offer a stock better suited for scope use. Add-on risers work, but add weight and can shift around. The recalled triggers and new ones are quite nice for a gun in this price range, perfectly usable, and better than most lever-actions by a good bit.
@@baconator754 thanks for the comment and for watching the video. I’ll keep your tips in might for the next time I shoot it.
Seems like it likes 150s better. But I think people get a little wrapped around the axel about groups instead of bullet performance. You're not going to have a bench in the deer woods.
. YOU will never shoot better than the accuracy of the gun. A more accurate rifle makes it easier for you to hit with. More importantly, if you are shooting a consistently accurate rifle, then YOU know if you miss that is was your fault, not the rifle's.
I have one of these in the brass frame in 45-70. Love the gun. However I do not love the brass butt plate!!! A limb saver slip on recoil pad makes it a shootable gun. These are chambered without a throat and if you want to shoot anything other than a 300 gr bullet you must rent a throating reamer. Your 405, 450, 500 will not chamber at all.
I think winchester was shooter error
@@Robert-z9j thanks for watching and the comment. It was not shooter error I shot several groups at 50 yards and 100 yards and it always would shoot two close and one flyer. Not sure why it does this but it consistently shot the same type of groups.
Its not helping that your stock comb is very low in relation to your stock. It will make for inconsistent cheek contact and results. A poor fitting setup with a heavy trigger will have predicable results. Cheek riser is in ordee for that thing.
I'm not sure when you purchased the rifle but I own a 308 of the same model and a few years ago there was a factory recall mine had a very stiff trigger so I shipped it to the factory and they fixed the recall problem and that fixed the stiff trigger so I would check and see if your rifle is under the recall if it is call henry and have them send a shipping label and box to you and send it in they'll fix it for nothing and ship it back to you.. now mine has a good trigger not so stiff.. all the shots in the video are kill shots.. THANKS for sharing..

I wish you would do 100yd testing. All your testing seems to be at 50. Was the bore cleaned before this test? I am not impressed with the accuracy at 50yds. At 100yds those groups are going to open up more, so it looks like the R95 has below-average accuracy. Now I have think about purchasing the R95, because I am not liking the groups I am seeing, but the Federal does OK I guess. I would have preferred to see 5-shot groups to determine if the R95 can keep shooting "tight" with the Federal.
@@vtecharrys.6981 thanks for the comment, I did do a 100 yard test with various ammo and several of them did well. The video is posted if you care to watch it. I do 50 yard test first and if they do well I go back to 100 yards and shoot again. As you said at 50 yards this was not good and would have been twice this at 100 yards.
@@sprucehilloutdoors Cool thank you. I wasn't aware of a 100yd video. I am guessing you have the 20" R95 which is the barrel length I am looking at, but in stainless. I have a Rossi 92 in stainless and it still looks like new after 11 years without much cleaning on the outside except a quick wipe down like once a year. With these new high prices we are paying today for lever guns one would expect to get decent accuracy, but I think the 30-30 caliber itself is inherently limited in that dept. although my old Marlin 336 JM was almost a tack driver at 100yds even with open sights... but I have shot friends' newer (Remi) 336 that were not as accurate as the old JM 336's, so I am pretty sure a lot of it has to do with the quality of the barrel and how it's crowned.
Exellent video, i have the same rifle, try the 160 gr but didn't work, i buy today the last 7 box of core lockt 170 gr in my country, that work just fine for wild boar and axis deer. Hornady ammo use to be very strong but giveme problems of accuracy in several calibers, 22mag 243, 6.5x55 and 30-30, watch the residue left in the barrel they use some diferent gunpowder

Guessing but the Winchester ammo would be the best buy I would think? For the money that is..
@@Randy-rdss thanks for watching, actually the Federal Blue Box was the cheapest. Winchester would be the second cheapest but the Winchester xp ammo is reported to have terrible performance when shot into a deer. The bullets fragment and do not retain there weight causing some animals to be lost due to the performance. However the Winchester power point does very well so I might try those yet.
