A short video to show how I made one of the demos for Acoustic Samples' new library, VWinds Flutes (www.acousticsamples.net/vwindsflutes) Music by the amazing James Moody 'Darben the Redd Foxx', transcribed from his improvisation live in concert
Oxford Reverb: A 'Stereo Modelling' Reverb
มุมมอง 1.2K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Created over 20 years ago by the legendary Paul Frindle, this is really a one-of-a-kind reverb in my opinion... as far as I understand, Paul designed it with absolutely no experience in working with reverbs before and the result was a completely fresh and innovative approach to how it could be used. 2 decades later it still holds up against today's bigger competitors, maybe not so much against ...

VSeries Bach: Trio Sonata No. 1: i. Allegro
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
Bach: Organ Sonata No. 1 in E-flat, BWV 525: i. Allegro. Bach wrote his 6 Organ Sonatas as practice exercises for his son Wilhelm Friedmann, but they ended up being perfect masterpieces and are now generally regarded as some of the greatest pieces of music ever written. This is the first movement of the first of the six sonatas, programmed in one evening on Logic Pro, using instruments from aco...
Mock-up Test No. 3: Unplayable String Runs

If the subliminal messaging worked - www.buymeacoffee.com/simonpassmore 'Watto's Big Deal' by John Williams. Programmed in one evening on Logic Pro. 3rd and final mock-up experiment before I go back to work. I was curious to know how realistic Cinematic Studio Strings sounds in context at unrealistic speeds (so not just the 'actually playable' rapid notes like in Hedwig's Theme - there are load...

www.buymeacoffee.com/simonpassmore A short trial to try and replicate the sound of orchestras playing 18th C music, in preparation for a long review/demos/tips video on Infinite Brass. What's that guitar and bass library?? Sounds great!
Hey Simon, I’ve just been on yet another deep dive of your videos and the work you’ve done for acoustic samples. It’s incredible stuff. With the hybrid approach that acoustic samples utilises of physical modelling and sampling, I wonder how this impacts CPU load. I have a 2018 Mac mini, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 64GB RAM, which often runs full orchestrations of BBCSO Pro without issue. How does that compare to your computer/ how well would my computer run this mock up?
A M A Z I N G !!!! I Also usy these sample libraries but the way How you can use it in musical way is amazing
Is the Original Musicscore (Music Notes) somwhere to get and to buy? Or have you every Instrument hear out of the Audio by ear ? I am interested in the Original Orchestral Score from the Composer.

What are your PC Specs ? Which processor and how much RAM do you have?
I have an old 2019 intel iMac which is somehow still surviving (just). Bought some memory cards back in the day so I have 128GB RAM, but Logic crashes every time I close a project at the moment so it’s looking like early retirement for me 😅
@@simonpassmore Hm, save up and buy a new one i guess, could take some time ofc, bcs a recent mac studio with that amount of ram will cost you a fortune... just looked it up and its 7000€ for a mac studio with 192gb of ram and a 2 tb SSD
Very Impressive! How did you deal with the libraries different rooms? Did you try to match the sound of a more wet library with just some reverb on a more dry lib or how did you do it? Personally im struggeling in my template with that issue, im using lots of Spitfires old jobby burgess perc, which is very wet, with CSS, infinite brass&infinite winds + some niche libs for string trills (OT Spheres) and percussion, the most difficult thing for me is to glue different percussion libs together. I really like the snares in true strike 1, but with a very close sound. I dont know how to put it in a room without sounding completely messed up...
They really should hire you. I have never heard better big band mockup. It sounds amazing.
Errr....buymeacoffee page non existent?
Had two kids and couldn’t keep up with the regular uploads! I’ll post some courses etc on my website when I get some free time back :)
Grat video! What drums plugin you have used in demos?
Mostly Straight Ahead drums - the Acoustic Samples ones are good but they’re made for people who know what they’re doing
Which preset in /H did you use? boston hall 2?
I think most likely scoring stage if it was a preset
@@simonpassmore I think thats a preset in Cinematic rooms, ill have a look if 7H has a preset like this
Absolutely beautiful!
Fantastic!
Is the choir from Metropolis ark or tallinn?
All the Arks :) but Tallinn is great too
Hi Simon, great video which leaves be determined to get my program to work. Do have or know where a newbie, like myself, can find the settings to get a decent sax sound? I am using V Horns Tenor and Alto within the UVI Workstation but the sound is nothing like a sax. Great work and thanks for any reply.
Hi, not sure to be honest - the first part of this video should be the sound you get out the box, does it sound different to what you’re getting? Feel free to send audio examples if you need
buymeacoffee link doesn't work?
This is the best big band mock-up I’ve ever seen in the world!!!!
Congratulations for this great demo! If I read and listen carefully the guitar accompaniment is based on only two notes played on each beat?
Hey Simon, It’d be great if you do the same mockup with your default template and compare the two. I’m curious how MSS compares to CSS soundwise.
@simonpassmore This sound incredible. I have no words. May i kindly ask how You achived such realistic performance of this runs using only CSS ? Any tips or tricks? Which patch You use here? By the way do You think V series is better than Infinie. Im asking because i already have Infinite brass and ww but i heard so many opinions that v series is better especially winds. Greetings from poland
I really like your improvisation about halfway. Your description/subtle-troll of Jazz standards and form is just hilarious.
Sounds amazing! good job
This video took my attention and I searched and bought MSS. to be honest I liked the library it works well with layering BBC. Thank you for your videos, you help us and your works are amazing!
what libraries did you use? this sounds sublime.
Amazing work!. Buy me coffee link doesn't work. :(
This is sensational for a midi mockup! The realism is just incredible👏👏 I feel that everyword that I say that is positive about this digital performance, is still an understatement of how really amazing this achievement is. Congratulations for an amazing midi achievement. Unbelievably good👋
Awesome! What more can one say?👋
I've tried to buy you a coffee, but it says 404 (the page does not exist). I am doing similar project - composing for a cue with a big-band of 1930s-40s style. No budget for hiring an ensemble. All in VST (including all orchestral cues obviously - but these are piece of cake). I'm new to Acoustic Samples, but as a seasoned jazz pianist/composer/ virtual instruments orchestrator etc. I love how Acoustic Samples saxophones behave. Here's no issue - I managed to make them sound 99 percent natural (TS,TS, AS,AS). But... I'm particularly interested in settings for mixing of brass. Trumpets, Trombones. How did you achieve this sonic, completely realistic result ? I already did slight variations in tuning of instruments (no phase cancelling here), but I can't figure out the exact positioning of trumpets and trombones, mic settings, reverbs etc. Did you use Virtual Space within the plug-in ? Are here just the AS instruments or did you sweeten them in unison with other brass ingredients ? Just curious. To me the trumpets and trombones just by themselves "out of the box" sound a little bit flat. Looking forward to take a lesson...
hey! where did you get the midi? all made by ear or did you use any existing midi file? Or did you just looked at the handwritten score and made the midi?
This is top 3 definitely
As everyone else has said, astonishing. Are you working from the notated score or reconstructing by ear? Either way, it's truly incredible work. And I say that as a fellow midi user (Cubase).
Fabulous demos! You ARE a jazzer... Also, thanks for the great insights and tips.
🤯🤯🤯
Fantastic video, very tempted to buy this now. Couple of questions. On tip two, where you talk about legato and staccato articulations, how are you changing these? Are you going into each note after playing them in to choose the articulations for each one? Ditto for tip 3. Are you playing the modulation in as you play the part or are you drawing it in afterwards? It would be great to see a step by step tutorial for one of the examples. THanks very much!🙂
PS Great to see Jazzzz Club from the Fast Show making a guest appearance. Niiiice.
11:50 Marion Brown eat your heart out
Absolutely amazing work, well done!!
Too bad they can’t do loud
Hello! Great video .. please what about articulations like Fall, sforzando , staccato, etc !! ?? I will love to buy the whole library..
Technical details should be available on acoustic samples’ official walkthrough videos, but they can definitely do all those articulations 👍
This sounds excellent for a mockup, but when compared side by side with the original performances, you can really tell that the brass and strings are lacking. Many nuances are missing, likely due to the limitations of samples. However, the production is spot on, and you've managed to make MSS sound much better than its usual 💩LOL Great job!
Hey Simon! Great as always. Would love a video on how you use MSS in a mock up at some point, just like your CSS tips and trix!
It's still fairly new to me, but a few people I know who picked it up in the sale are planning on making a video about it. It blends really well with CSS and is on both of the VWinds 2.0 demos so far :)
Those Rachmaninoff excerpts are jaw-dropping, wow
You make a very compelling case for Modern Scoring Strings.
THIS IS AMAZING!!! Youre infinite brass sounds really really good! Where did you get the midi? or do you also have the handwritten scores and just transcribed it? I want to mock this up by myself since i just got the new released spitfire symphony orchestra :)
Brilliant job! I love Thunderbirds 1 & 2 scooting over the top of the notes. Is this a new feature in Logic 11?! 😅
😂
Amazing demo of non-popular-but-great libraries
Would you say that you prefer MSS over CSS?
Both fantastic for different situations so I probably couldn't choose one :) They work very well together though!
Brilliant stuff, Simon!!!
Thunderbirds are GO! Well done Simon, awesome mockup and overview of the instruments.
Awww yeah. Excellent! Very well done. Thunderbirds!!
