Model Car Creations 2024 in Review
This is a collection of photos I took at my local scale model car club meetings during 2024. The majority of these builds are NOT done by me, but by my friends in the club. It was a year of ups and downs and I hope to have captured everything the club did during the year. Thanks for watching!

A 36 Apache Scale Model Build

My model club was given a stash of models from a builder who has passed away. Out of the many we got, is the A-4E Skyhawk by IMC. The box is ancient, no bar code! The model is very simple so I turned my focus to weathering and shading. I wanted to bring out the battle damage!

This is my build of the Revell Lamborghini Countach scale model kit. I did a lot of modifications to the body and some mechanical details. The model is painted with acrylic art paint and Quick Shine Floor Finish. This video is different from the others because of the narration. The local model group had an assignment to make an Apocalyptic Build based on the 1/25 Sand Kat by AMT. The rules were it must use the Sand Kat kit and you need to scratch build as much as you can to alter the look of the vehicle. Would these be perhaps a good beginner set?
Absolutely. Tamiya kits in general are nice to put together. The Walker Bulldog is an old Tamiya kit but it it is cheap and it's quality is better then other kits from the time. It is a great way to get into the hobby.

OK, just seeing this 26 MAY 2024 …. I’m an old dog , been building models since 1970…. JUST BOUGHT A VINTAGE ( this kit ) MONOGRAM 1/48 P-40 Flying Tiger… Many years ago REVELL BOUGHT MONOGRAM MODELS…. I’ve built this kit a couple of times… NOW, I have TWO in the stash Going to build a USAAF P-40 PEARL HARBOR and a RAF DESERT WARHAWK….. I have better decals and photo etch, vacuum canopies… AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS… I’m going to watch this again NICE JOB 👍 CHRIS 🇺🇸

Happy to post it! This show was well run, the models on display were numerous and very well done.
Lots of irrealistically factory clean models in dioramas. And the 109 at 22:04 : never seen water that blue.
It's a 1964 Monogram kit, so the molds have been going for 60 years.
I have no doubt about the molds. This kit (the box) was from the 80's and the decals were fine. I had another brand, from the 90's and the decals shattered as soon as they hit water. Go figure!
The last few years Revell has been using Cartograf decals a lot, so that's a good thing.

The A-36 was pre mustang.. Not a modified mustang. When the UK asked if the US could make something better than the P-36 and P-40, NAA modified the P-36 into the P-51

How did you make that weapons box?
Hello and thanks for watching. I found pictures of the box online. I cut sheet styrene to fit the chassis so I could cover the empty side of the gas tank and the wheel wells. This gives the trunk space a nice floor to work with. Be careful with the glass and the rear window, you have to leave enough room for everything to fit when the model is put together! Just cut or sand where needed so it all fits. I then took some measurements of the trunk space with the chassis placed in the body. I also measured the Shortest depth between the trunk lid and floor of the chassis, that's important so the trunk will close! Some of these measurements were eyeballed as a ruler often starts the measurement at 1/8" from the edge of the ruler so don't expect hyper accuracy, just get it to fit! I then took those measurements and made a 2 dimensional drawing on a piece of paper so I could figure out the storage compartments. I then cut strips of styrene sheet to lengths on the drawing with a maximum height I took from the trunk. I glued everything together. The lid is simply taped with clear shipping tape to the box I made. Don't forget to account for the height of the lid in your depth measurement. I then sanded the shiny surface of the tape away and painted it. Everything in the box is scratch made or from scavenged pieces of other models.

Good job with the old kit (originally Monogram if I'm not mistaken). Note: The Chinese national roundels were for Nationalist China, not the PRC, which didn't exist at the time. The Nationalists lost the Chinese Civil War to the Communist Chinese (PRC) and thus set up a new government/country on the island of Formosa, better known today as Taiwan. In Taiwan today, the Flying Tigers are still held in high esteem.

This was an absolute horror of a model for me, the instructions are vague, and a lot of the parts didn't fit well. Assembling this "thing" was just a bad experience from beginning to end.... one of the worst AMT models I've ever made!
I feel your pain. Even though it is a relatively new car, the kit is old by today's standards. Most people have trouble with the bumpers and the bumperettes. I also had a problem with the chassis 3 wheeling and had to add a spacer round to level her off. If you think AMt is bad, try an MPC (Modelers Pain and Contempt)!

Hi Ace, I've always found Revell to be absolutely the poorest molding out there. That said, you did a great job overcoming this model's flaws. The scratch building is essential and the seam filling is well done. My limited panel line experience is the tape and scribe method. The tape can be adjusted and once you 'gently' get the initial score of it down the rest is just following the line. Gently is the word!! Any approach is always a struggle for me. The vinyl mask is a neat trick. I've never seen that before. The mixed color looks rich and has depth to it. I think the sponging could have been a little more judicious but the scale of it is spot on. Kudos for that! The final matte coat is a great realistic look. Overall, you did a great job with a mediocre model. Fantastic. Keep these coming.

@@modelsbyhand I use an X-acto that's dulled. This way I can push a little bit without it cutting deep right away. Making only a delicate scoring of the line. Always look ahead of the line you are cutting. The hand will follow the eye, so look ahead of the line a few mm. After that it's a matter of slowly and lightly letting the blade follow this furrow. The final pass or two is made with a wider pointed blade to widen the thin knife line. You can also try a curved blade shape and roll the knife as you scribe. X-acto makes many different shaped blades. Check them out. Some blade shapes are very handy and can do more of the work for you. I found that the key to all of this is - coordinate the motion of sliding the knife in one hand with rotating/ holding the piece in the other hand. Both hands have to work smoothly. I practice the motion and slowly lower the knife to scribe. I hope this helps. Keep at it mate!!

Fujimi and Aoshima have several kits that are high end. Tamiya has one based on a battery powered toy. This one was a Revell I bought at a swap meet. Others exist to, check swap meets or eBay for them. Thank you for watching.

How did you get the headlights/front bumper assembly and rear bumper skin to fit? I had major issues with them. Great build up to that point. I posted a few vids on this build several months ago. I'd love to see your opinion on it.

I bought all these battle damaged kits when they were new, as I was, lol. I loved them. I remember this, the F-4, MiG-21, either an A-7 or F-8, and F-100.
