I really don't like the NI rods for cast iron. Have had some luck with the 309 SS rods but I prefer brazing. It's all in understanding heat control, getting the part hot enough to accept the braze and then just enough extra heat at the joint to flow the braze in. Heat until the braze melts in the joint pull the heat back for a second back in for another dab watch for what we call wetting out of the puddle. the edges will be shiny and flow on to the cast metal and not be humped up. If the braze is flowing all over the place you have it to hot and the flame maybe too big or too much pressure with the flame (the flame is blowing the braze around). But then again you may already know all this. keep up the good work I'm enjoying the progress. currently I am working on a 1941 Adams 511 grader. Great video Thank you.

I used # 30 mesh sand through mine, worked pretty well, then I put the bucket of sand on top of the ladder. Turned the process into a quick job, evened out the flow of sand and the paint just disappeared. I like this project and look forward to the video.

Hi ! I live in Sweden and for more than 40 years ago me and a friend had a Bolinder Munktell 115 grader that was quite simular to your Cat. We did the same restoration on that one that you`re doing now. Interesting and bring back memories of the past !

Yes,this is pain remove found but this way is.i hope you no problems get parts from cat or junk yards.i saw few still running small town in western canada due low budget they got but very good shape cat from usa visist few place look at it learn something when they built new style 1970.thanks video.😊

A friendly succession: if you have the engine already out see if the clutch fingers need any adjustment. I'm not sure if these things have a access hole that you can use later for any adjustment job? Don't see one in the video? It amazes me how mice can find there way into places that seem impossible. Hopefully the ring gear on the flywheel is ok? Was the generator on the grader engine a standard thing or a option?

I just found your channel and I really like what you’re doing here, I subscribed. On another note, I thought I heard you say something about Ontario, does that mean you are a fellow Canadian?

I had to pull the engine on a similar Cat 12 70D grader because a rod in the starting engine linkage broke and fell into the clutch. We took the engine out and made repairs , then replaced it, only to notice we forgot to install the gasket to the clutch housing. Surprisingly it wasn't that hard using our little backhoe to lift it back out.😊 Interesting how the two shafts fit into the clutch, an inner and outer. One dives the controls and the other moves the machine.

I wonder what those two screws the one on the top of the air filter and one on the bottom they buy any chance you wouldn’t loosen them up and the air filter just drop G the gallons that I worked on or you had to do is loosen the screws up and it falls apart right in your hand

You have done a good job so far, but you still have a lot to do. As a tip related to video editing: try to equalize the audio level, so that it is as equal as possible in all moments when you film. Now the voice level is very low and the level of music and tools when you work is very high. The one watching your video must always adjust the audio level between different scenes you are filming and this can be annoying. Keep up the good work!
