Over the years I've been asked by thousands of people on forums and Facebook groups how I did this and that to my cars. When Covid hit I figured that maybe I should look into starting a TH-cam channel. Now keep in mind that I didn't have a clue on how to do this but I like helping others, so I set out to learn. I like to show as much detail as I can in my videos so that others can learn to do the same to their cars. Please feel free to reach out to me if you ever need help with something as I've had a lot of people do just that since starting my channel. Here's to having fun in the garage!

Why I Prefer to Do My Own Oil Changes | How The Dealer Screwed Up
I looked at this but decided against it due all the complaints of it rattling against the plastic engine cover. I reached out to TB and they acknowledged the issue and said they were working on a solution (other than having to permanently remove ur cover). And it was also like $300 at the time vs the $90 blitz version. It there abt rattling so far?
ORDERED!!!!! Thanks Jim... i been waiting for a bar like this...
Speaking of hitting the windshield….recently found out the Type R windshield replacement is +$2k🤯Also found out about a recall on the Type R as well for the power steering wiring. Makes me Even happier I’m getting the GRC! Hope you have a blessed New Year🙏
That red on the bottom looks so tough💪Makes it look so much better with the black!
I'm not a car guy but damn wish i knew to clean out the manifold regularly
I put in 5qts of 0W-16 Mobil 1 in my Rav4. Bring it.
I've seen plenty of people do just that.
I had lots argue with me about it.
@@RexH00ligan Unless you let every last drop drip in you are most likely at 4.8 to 4.9 quarts. Even 5 quarts is no where near too much oil to cause any issues. Adding more oil can help with oil pressure but it can also take away HP, not that any difference will be seen with such a small difference.
Thanks for the install video, Jim. It is very informative, and I agree with your comments regarding the path of the bar being tucked back. I have to use a pry bar to remove my oil cap on my 19 STI because of the ETS titanium FMIC piping. It's not terrible and looks good, but it is an inconvenience none the less.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, I've been trying to figure out why my manual Transmission has been running so rough. We've had it a year now and haven't done anything with the gear oil. This video probably just saved our car! Thank you for being so precise and thorough. 🙏 going to do this, this weekend!
Awesome! I'm so happy that you found my video!
With the breather mods. Would you feel comfortable running indefinitely without a tune? The added hp is nice especially keeping the same mpg. But is it safe for the engine?
Yes, it's perfectly fine. The ECU is pretty amazing at how much it can adjust and my A/F ratio is perfect. The key is to do the intake, header and exhaust so the additional air can be taken advantage of with more fuel for more power. The exhaust allows the extra volume to be flow out.
This is an amazing build. I have been debating between an iM and a Corolla hatch. I like iM styling better and I think this video pushed my decision into wanting to get one. Instantly subscribed keep doing the great work!
Thank you! I appreciate it. I've always loved the looks of the iM too.
Go Sooners 👍
BOOMER SOONER all day long!!!! ❤❤❤
Did it disable any safety features or sensors?
No, I don't even know it's there unless I want to download a video.
what kind of lift is that? Wow. So nice to have something like that in your garage!
It's a 4 post lift that I use for working on cars and storing my 89 Supercharged MR2 on! 🤣 And it's an awesome thing to have! I wanted one for many years before I finally got it.
Any regrets getting this intercooler? It looks amazing but the price is pretty crazy, especially with overseas postage.
No regrets at all. It's not a huge benefit for me as I live in the PNW and drive my MR2 when the weather is comfortable. For those in hot climates it would be even more of a benefit.
Hope you are doing well, Jim. I Went to the dealership to get some numbers on a new 2025 GR Corolla Premium in Heavy Metal. Looks like I will end up getting exactly what I wanted with the all weather mats, door sill protectors and the Sub Radiator (bonus add on I wasn’t expecting), for about $3k off MSRP. I was contemplating a spoiler but every one I have looked at has been damaged by the port installers….like the port installers DGAF (2 with roof racks and 1 spoiler). Personally, unlike most people, I LOVE buying cars and dealing with car salesman! It’s like a game of chess and poker, with a little bit of acting sprinkled in there😂 TBH, I was half expecting them to try to start with a “market adjustment”, but after I started mentioning how they were on sale everywhere, they came out with -$1750 discount off MSRP immediately. I then bargained it down another $1200 off MSRP (in addition to removing another $1400 for “protection and oil changes for life”…not sure how I would use $700 in oil changes😂). I will let you know when I get it. Again, appreciate all the videos and replies. Hope you have a great Christmas, Jim!
Congratulations! Good for you! Sounds like you are getting a great deal. I look forward to seeing it soon! Merry Christmas to you too!
And it’s a Toyota so it’s full of dealer added equipment nobody asked for so they can jack up the price on something that was supposed to be affordable
Luckily the GR Corolla isn't too bad in that regard. There are only a few things that are options like the roof bars, type of floor mat, etc. Mostly usable things. My 2023 came with all weather mats, upgraded weighted shift knob and that was it.
Will the OEM rubber mat fit with that installed
I'm not sure, I have the carpet mat as you can see. You could possibly adapt the tabs that are welded on where it bolts to the car and have longer tabs welded on if the rubber mat is too thick. Or maybe ask TB if they can make one with longer tabs.
Great video as always Jim. I installed the Delta X titanium one in my Morizo as eye candy.
I looked at that one too but it's discontinued. That looks mighty nice though!
This made the least difference of all the ones I tried. The best is the Cusco lower subframe power brace.
You tried several different rear strut braces? How many did you try? What brands? Is that the brace that goes under the rear bumper?
How much does it help? Looks like a flimsy end bracket with a thread so lots of give in it and I can't see how it helps as surely the top of the turrets is what you need to prevent from moving. Did you test with it before and after and did it make any difference?
It's a simple design but TB has always made well designed parts. The end pieces are pushed outward against the body. The brakes are mostly there to keep things where they need to be. It's going to be a subtle difference since the factory bar is still mounted but it did feel like an improvement. Plus it looks nice so it has the eye candy appeal too. 🤣
I know it’s 6.2 quarts of oil on my 2019
This is also 6.2 quarts. It's my son-in-laws truck and he told me the wrong amount. I made sure to let everyone know that in the description where I point out that it takes 6.2 quarts. Thanks!
Sir I drive for Uber and I have 175,000 miles on my 2021 Sienna with the same engine. 0w16 all these miles with no issues, doesn't burn a single drop. These engines are designed for 0w16 so don't worry, just change the oil every 5000 miles or 6 months. Right now I am running Pennzoil Platinum 0w16
Great job using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum! That's great oil. You have an advantage that you drive yours a lot and the fluid temps stay at operating temp. But the only reason Toyota and other manufacturers use lighter oils is because of CAFE standards for MPG and the EPA. I many other markets the same engine uses 0w-20 and 5w-30. The Sienna isn't a performance machine but the 0w-20 will protect bearings better, but using 0w-16 and changing is every 5k miles is okay with how you use the car. For many people they take much shorter trips and they get fuel dilution that destroys oil and the thinner the oil starts out the thinner it gets with use. You won't experience this though as your engine is running all day. You need to use the oil that fits the way the engine is being used.
Why do the stickers say 2024 on them
Some are 2024 and some are 2025. They had a lot of trucks from both but the 2024 and 2025 Tacoma are the same.
No spoiler and no more BBS wheels. Not worth 47k then.
I agree, and no fog lights either.
47k??? holyyyy! ain't no way!
Yep, everything is getting more expensive every year.
Plus it has that stupid roof rack.
@@thystaff742 Yes, I hate the look of the roof bars. I would always take them off as they look terrible, ruin the lines of the car, wastes gas, and can damage the paint. If they are being used for something then fine, but once done with the job I would take them off. It only takes minutes to remove them or install them.
i got to know man, has it given you CEL or any dash lights? been thinking about getting the otl turbo back
No CEL of any kind. I've not heard of the downpipe ever causing CEL.
I know it’s not a big thing… the oem shrouds have slots on them, those slots go out to the fender. This is where the side louvers take a “suction” from.
Neither design is an air tight fit in any way so air can move around either one if it even makes a difference.
@@jimsgaragetoysagreed. Enjoy your content, will be referencing your crowl remove video tomorrow to do some test fitting of a strut bar
@@Rowdy_GRC Good deal! What strut bar sis you get?
@ TB performance
@@Rowdy_GRC I did too. I'll be doing a video on the install this week, most likely after Christmas.
Most people dont know is toyota is like more of a sleeper cars

@jimsgaragetoys I saw some 2005 xrs matrix I just need to save up and then I'll finally have it. Definitely getting the 2zz-ge
@@roymilla6636 Yep, such a great engine!
I am more partial to the blue but the Solar Octane would look good in my driveway.
They both looked amazing in person!
47k lmao 🤣 you guys are nuts
Yep, That Premium Plus is expensive. There are less expensive trims though that are mechanically identical. Some of those are close to $37k.
Scrap that 4 banger
I don't mind the I-4 Turbo and the I-4 Turbo Hybrid, but I wish the V-6 was still an option.
This is awesome! You have all the videos for the GR Corolla🤯Your channel should have A LOT more subs! SERIOUSLY, you have one of the best, with the most comprehensive GR Corolla content on here!! So goad I found your channel. sir! I was looking at getting this as well because that was one of the biggest complaints I have is the lack of an armrest when there is a perfect place or it. I read the description and saw that we are the same height. That is another reason I really like the GR Corolla because it has plenty of room for me. Think I mentioned it already but I had put $1k on a GR86 and my knee was hitting the e-brake and steering wheel. BTW, one of the dealerships just got that 2025 Heavy Metal Premium Plus/manual in stock and I am about to go look at it here in about an hour. If they feel like giving me a deal, I will be taking it home, if not then I will buy another one. Either way, the main thing I have been trying to do, is look at the Heavy Metal color in person. I haven’t seen that color in person yet. Again, glad I found your channel because it has a plethora of amazing GR videos. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, sir! They are greatly appreciated….🙏
Thanks so much! Spread the news about my channel! I've never really understood why it hasn't grown at a faster rate but I keep plugging along because I love to do them and help other owners of all the cars I own. Good luck with the Heavy Metal GRC. I think that or black will look the best with the new grill design too.
Did you get any error on the dash when it was learning the new sensors? Thank you!
No, none at all.
Surprised you haven't sprung for the Forge Motorsport intake kit, it's a great fitting product and really livens up the sound of the car. It does definitely take a couple of weeks for the car to learn the new airflow, might get a bit of sputtering at high rpm for the first few days of driving until the car learns but I never got a CEL.
I looked at it when I first got my GR Corolla but I don't really want a gloss twill CF look. It's also mainly a cover over the OEM air box which actually flows very well. I added the Velossa Tech Ram Intake and getting cold air into both intakes, which the Forge doesn't do seemed a lot better way to go. If I did swap out the intake I was looking at the SXTH Element intake since it cost less and looks better IMO.
My daughter hit a curb got everything fixed and aligned, besides abs tire sensor. Vsc and track off light still on. Did zero point calibration light went off and as soon as I drove came right back on. I've been researching this for a couple days I dont have a scanner that will check this. Is it likely the abs sensor?
It could be but without the code you'll never know. With any CEL active the VSC and Traction Control light will be on. If the shop fixed it have them check it again. Abs sensors are very delicate though so they are easily damaged.
@jimsgaragetoys thank you
I am about to get my 2025 Gr Corolla, Heavy Metal on a premium….possibly a premium plus. Only If I can get the Plus for a VERY good deal because I am not a fan of the carbon fiber roof and keeping it dry/out of the sun….negotiating with a dealership now on one that is in transit for about $5k off/$44k OTD. They may take it, because all the ones people are buying up first are the automatics and I want a manual. They have gotten in 3 autos and sold them all. I will let that new one sit till they want to deal or I will buy a difference one. Odds are pretty good. They dropped the price of a white 2024 premium from $42K, down to $39K. I can’t to get mine! Just found your channels and subbed💪Hope that you and yours have a blessed one.
Congrats! I'm sure that you are excited. I remember when the GRC was first introduced and I wanted a Heavy Metal Circuit so bad but the more I thought about the CF roof the less I wanted to deal with it. I also wasn't sure if I would even be able to get a CE since they were limited to 1500 and they were supposed to be available for only 2023. It ended up that I could have gotten one but I love my loaded Core so it all worked out. If you ever have any questions feel free to reach out to me.
@ I am not a fan of the CF roof and I told the dealership that too and that was one of the reasons I wanted more off off that one because I will have to have the roof wrapped in a UV/Water protective film. It is funny how the autos are being sold faster, which works out even more for us manual drivers! I was debating between the 2024 and 2025, but all the new improvements they made for 2025 sold me. There are too many to list….torque increase, suspension upgrade, weight reduction…..NTM I like the front, it looks more intimidating IMO. Fog lights were cool but the increased airflow sold me. Appreciate the reply and I WILL DEFINITELY let you know when I get mine. Thinking about starting a channel around it….🤔 BTW, that is a bargaining tool I am using with the dealership…..telling them that I will be shouting out the dealership in every video😂I was a salesman so I know the game very well and even If I have ti get one shipped in from somewhere, I am getting a good deal on one. People are starting to get them for $2-$4k off. Those markups were ridiculous and now they are advertising them below MSRP (barely below it, but below it none the less). There is a specific group of people that want these and most people don’t even know there is a GR Corolla. They haven’t even sold 6k of these total in America yet (probably will hit that this year). People aren’t dropping +$40k on a Corolla….except for people like us. IMO, IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! It is the only GR that is made in the Motomachi factory by techs that are experts and do their jobs to perfection. The other GR’s are basically a BMW and a Subaru and aren’t made in the GAZOO RACING FACTORY. People try and down it for being expensive but you get what you pay for and all the reviews are amazing and the resale value is really good too at, 70% after 5yrs. Before I researched anything I had put $1k on a GR86 but it was way too small, my knee was hitting the e brake and steering wheel. Glad It didn’t work out and I found the GR Corolla….it has A LOT MORE ROOM than the 86. As you can tell I am excited and have done A LOT of research on this. Most of the dealers don’t even know much about the car (As seen in your video where they have that CF ROOF IN THE ELEMENTS 🤯 I looked at a red one (Never buy a red car, I just wanted to sit in it/look at it) and they damaged the roof when they put the roof racks on it at the port…gouged into the paint down to the metal in 3 spots. The rack also didn’t fit right on it, one side had huge gaps. Thanks again, hope that you and yours have a blessed one. Oh, one last thing, did you break the car in for the first 500-1k miles? That is one thing that NO ONE talks about in their videos but it is SUPER IMPORTANT to make sure everything gets broken in properly. That is one of the reasons I refuse to buy one with anything over 5-10mi max. Had one where it had +50mi on it because dealers son took it out….can guarantee you he didn’t GAF and drove it like a douce canoe.
@@SaltStorm007 Yes, I did a proper break-in and did a break-in oil change video that is also on my channel. I changed the oil before 1k miles, the transfer case and rear diff around 3200 miles and the transmission around 5k miles. I did a video on every one of these services. I was able to get mine at MSRP and it was the first one my local dealer received. I need the fog lights though living in the PNW as we get all kinds of rain, fo, and snow in the mountains. I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up getting! 😍
@@jimsgaragetoys Wow….I will DEFINITELY find those videos and watch them! That is pretty cool, you are LITERALLY one of the only ones that has mentioned this and made a video on it🤯(I have watched almost every video I can find on the GR). They are getting the Premium Plus on Friday. I will see if they want to deal on it, if not, I will wait until they realize that the manuals aren’t the hot car when the auto is new and they can’t keep them on the lot. I would only buy an auto if I could get it for $10K off and then I would just sell it for a manual. I have been looking at them since August and almost bought a White Circuit for $43K but I don’t like the White. Either Black or Heavy Metal (really leaning towards the Heavy Metal). Then I found out about the 2025 improvements and was sold. That is awesome you made those videos. Appreciate the replies and I hope you and yours have an awesome holiday season💯🙏
@@SaltStorm007 Merry Christmas! This would be a great gift to yourself if you can make it happen!
Why do they keep putting those racks on them🤮Also, that carbon fiber roof needs to stay dry….a smart person could use this as a discount tool🤔
For sure!!
@@jimsgaragetoysAlso the roof racks damage the rubber when they are put on too. Ridiculous how Toyota does that!
@@SaltStorm007 I've never liked the roof bars. They also look terrible.
Because some people ride bikes or use it to store stuff but agreed why put them on when it's not needed. I think the roof rack looks cool when it's actually used.
@@ericochoa5784 And that's my point, use them when needed. By themselves they look terrible, create wind noise, hurt MPG, and can damage the paint.
I JUST got an mr2 today! So please keep making videos about this
Congrats! What did you pick up? I do have some other maintenance items I need to do so it will be happening after the holidays are over.
Its about time for me to do this again... appreciate another insightful video!
When did you do it the first time? How many miles are you at now?
Ugly. I’ll keep my 23 circuit. F an automatic too
No Corolla is worth 50k.
@arctictruck10 $46,650 is well over 50k after taxes and fees. I’m sure the dealers are trying to add ancillary fees on top of the MSRP. I like the GR Corolla but I don’t like it that much.
@arctictruck10 50k can go such a long way. If I were buying something new I’d look at an Audi S3 or VW Golf R, they’re basically the same underneath. If I wanted a used sports car maybe an older 911 or 718 Cayman. Again, I don’t think the GR Corolla is a bad car, I just think there’s better options out there at that price point.
I prefer my 23 loaded Core too.
@@arctictruck10 Too many people get stuck on this. Nobody is making a living racing their GRC and none of us could even tell the difference in a 0-60 difference of 0.2 seconds. The joy driving a manual gives me makes me not care if an auto is faster. 🤣
I had the inner barrel done as well when I got my wheels coated. Help a lot when washing the car to rid the wheels of brake dust. Minimal scrubbing needed when fully coated.
Yes!! I also did that and forgot to mention it.
Do you always torque to spec with tires in the air? My process is: 1. With tire in the air, start first few threads by hand 2. Snug with impact wrench in auto shut-off mode (about 35 ft-lbs) 3. Lower car & torque to spec with tire on the ground
I never torque to spec with the front tires in the air and most of the time I will always put just enough weight on the tires to keep them from wanting to turn. Sometimes I will torque the rear wheels in the air if I have the parking brake on as that prevents the wheels from turning and allows it to be torqued.
Link to the sweater
🤣🤣🤣 I bought it a long time ago. I found it by Googling "GR Corolla Shirts"
I can’t use these because I installed door stabilizer latches. Cost about $25/door but they do add some rigidity and a very minor decrease in road noise. I’ll say, high speed turn-in response was quickened.
Where did you buy them??
I've got a set of them I need to install on my 2009 Turbo Corolla.
@jimsgaragetoys see you have some content to make.... I'll be waiting for that video to drop.
I got a set from Blackhawk for like $100 but then saw the Amazon version for $25. So I got both at first to compare nearly identical.
@@bbb4019 thank you
That’s one of the first things I did. Love how it looks.
Love it!
Where did you get the latch covers? Very cool!
@@Myhomie007 I found them on Aliexpress. Thank you Jim! Just got my 2024 Gr on Saturday, so when you guys make it back to California, would to take a road trip with guys! Really like your content!
@@Myhomie007 Awesome! Congrats! I do try to come down for Toyotafest every year so come by and say hello next year!
I put 4.8 and it overfilled my 2024 raw4 hydrid.
By how much? When I put in 4.5 quarts it was still below the full line after starting it and letting it sit before checking the level. When I added the little extra up to 4.8 quarts it was right at the full line. I wonder why people are getting these different fill amounts? Did they change something in later years? My daughters is a 2021 Hybrid but it has the same engine.
@@jimsgaragetoys For the 2024 Google says 4.5.
The oil Geek says using 0w-16 is no issue because it has much more additives to protect the engine than 0w-20. A lab experiment proved that ow-12 oil provided more protection than 0w-30 because of the added protector additives. Crazy. The new Corrola and Camry use the 0w-8.
I'll have to have a look at what he says. I would personally never use 0w-8 and I guess it would depend on what brand the oil was. I'm going to be working with him on an oil test over the coming years to see some differences on turbo engines and viscosity.
Jim what light bar do you use? Can you post a link plz
I have a couple that I own. I have a high quality one that is fantastic and 2 good quality ones that I use for extra light. Best - amzn.to/3BBOh6w Good - amzn.to/4fdp7ck
Amazing work! I think this is the first time I’ve seen this done without disconnecting the drive shaft.
Thanks! I appreciate it. That and I didn't remove any of the heat shield around the drive shaft either!
U spent almost 2 k on that gr u could of used that money for a new 25 model plus u voided the warranty plus all the check engine lights are gonna get now big mistake. The new ones are way better. They have more power better suspension everything‘s better on them. I can’t see putting money into one of the older ones plus she won’t get much power out of that down unless you do a full on tune, totally destroy that car Good videos tho
I guess you weren't paying attention to my channel or my build. I'm not a fan of the 2025 models front end and I like the look of my front end with the fog lights a lot more, and it would cost me a lot less money. I paid less than $40k for my fully loaded Core which I couldn't even get now. Even if I did like the 25 model more it would take so much work to remove most of my mods to reuse them on a 2025. I've never been the person that would trade up for subtle improvements on newer updates. From what has been said, the updates will make subtle improvements on the track more than anything. I stated that this was one of my mods that I wanted to do before getting a tune. I didn't want to have to get updates on the tune after every mod so I'm doing them before I get a tune. You can't see putting money into an earlier model but just buying a new one would cost more than mine will when I'm done and mine will be much quicker with more power. The increased OEM torque is simple a tune bumping the torque. Thanks for appreciating the work I put into making the video.
You’re an idiot. I’m running full bolt ons with a tune since 5k miles. I’m pushing 30 thousand miles now. No issues. No complaints
