      Remove all of what things? All I did was move my oil catch can out of the way on the drivers side because without moving it there was no way to get my hand in there. On the passenger side I removed 3, 10mm bolts that took all of 1 minute to get them and the intake piece out of the way. This also gave me a lot more room to work and get my hand into position. You may have little hands but I do not. I have large hands and trying to get into that little gap would have been a pain. You have to learn that sometimes it's worth it to take a minute and make things easier than it would have been.

    After a14 day 6k mile road trip of which 4k were on proper mountain west roads - here are a few of my observations - mirrors many of your thoughts. The seats on my Circuit are very comfortable. I don't recall ever having a krik in my back. The GR's ride/suspension is fine for fast B & C road driving. Yes the GRC is designed for the twisties & some gravel thrown in for good measure. 80 to 90+ mph became the "New Normal" on this trip 27 avg mpg from mile one. 30 mpg for this trip. - very little urban driving. I was almost out of gas & had to drive real slow to the next gas station (45 to 50 mph) I got 42 mpg over those 20 miles👍 8k total miles after 4 months of ownership! I got used to the cruise's controls & came to really enjoy adaptive, a/w lane keep & auto dimming under certain circumstances . I'm going to miss those features in my other vehicles. My armrest is back ordered till October A sunroof would be GREAT. The GRC is simply brilliant. Out of the handful of fast cars I've owned - I would choose the GRC all day long...

      Very, very true! My only differences with you are the lane keep that I hate as I cut the line on twisty roads and it's always tugging at the wheel. I've never liked the buttons of the CC vs the stalk that was perfect. I still use the standard CC too. Amazing how so many of our views mirror each others.

      @@jimsgaragetoys How I roll with the GRC's tech - only to facilitates my driving experience. ( learnt from 1st 6k mile trip) LK - is great when your droning & want to pay "extra" attention to a GPS or Text (or whatnot) & don't want to crash. (judge away) ACC - works well when you are in a lead/follow construction zone - to more casually following the pack. Same idea when follwing taffic going thru towns. Pro Tip - what I've done for years is run 2 GPS's - one zoomed in one out. Works brilliantly on long trips...

    I was wondering how many miles you have on this vehicle to date and how has the six-speed manual transmission held up? I've seen some reports of clutch and slave cylinder failures to the tune of $4,000 estimates from dealers from people around 66K miles ish I'm wondering if the quality has gone down or it's just that people don't know how to drive stick and the clutch feels very soft

"vocal minority", the small subset of people with clutch issues are doing exactly what you said, abusing the car and then jumping online and screaming from the rooftops anywhere someone will listen. The fires without much definitive information from owners, turned into the car being some national risk. That Toyota should warranty a car, they investigated and deemed to not be something from the way the car was built. The amount of cars sold, to the percentage of of damaged cars, as you said its insignificant. Also, for us who drive our cars a lot, take road trips, have modified them,we are saying the same thing, for what this car was designed to do, within those parameters its amazing. I appreciate another owner putting proper sense to the matters.

Think about what they are saying, if the transmission fails at 100k miles, the fluid did last the lifetime of the transmission. If you change the transmission fluid regularly and often, the chance that you will have a transmission issue declines like a rock falling off a cliff.

If there is some freak-accident edge case with my car, i want to know that i can trust the warranty to get my car back on the road without emptying my bank account. I understand and agree completely. I feel the same way about my GR Corolla. Clutches are like this with every manufacturer though and aren't just automatically covered as they are a wear item like the brakes and tires. Warranty claims on these type of items are up to the person making the decision at the dealer. I don't understand though why dealers care since it doesn't cost them anything but customer goodwill is achieved.

    Jim - I feel like the frustration is not with the cars having any significant mechanical issues, but how Toyota is handling the warranty claims on the few that do. I know a handful of people with clutch issues in the 23s before the superseded part number came out, and it was pulling teeth to get them to honor it on a less than a year old car. Most of these are autocrossers who are doing aggressive launches, but *every* other new car doing the same thing do not have those issues. I myself have smelt the clutch a handful of times, and I am just waiting for the day when I will need to replace it myself. 7k on the car, 1 year in, and already budgeting for a clutch and a weekend to swap it when, not if, it happens. I feel for the consumers without a garage and the mechanical knowledge who will be stuck with a $5k clutch job out of pocket on their new car. Not ideal PR for Toyota, and the fire issues are just exponentially worse. I am not going to freak out and sell it tomorrow because of either issues, but I drank the kool-aid hard last year and the wife got a 2024 Rav4 Hybrid at the same time as I got the GRC. Regrets? Not yet, but Toyota is supposed to have the best reliability and warranties out there, and I'm not seeing it now that I'm here. It's expected that all new platform cars are going to have a handful of small issues, but that's what *warranties* are for.. not *insurance*. Key difference. Overall I love the car and hope to show up to one of the Vancouver Sunday events at some point.

    • @jimsgaragetoys
      @jimsgaragetoys 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, clutch issues should be covered under warranty, especially in the first year. I know that has always been an issue for all manufacturers with performance manual cars. I think that it comes down to the relationship that some people have with their dealer as some people have been able to get Toyota to cover it. The fires are a different story. Almost always a fire will be covered by insurance and not the manufacturer as it's very hard to pinpoint an exact cause many times. And we still haven't really been given any real information about these fires. I do agree that Toyota handled the press part very poorly which just made things more confusing but If it was a true problem I think we would be seeing a lot more cases. And since the owner of one of them went and bought another GRC I think that he also knows something that we don't.

    A PSA worthy of accolades, kudos my friend. You’re a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks for putting this out. Will anything change? No. The people putting out these over inflated fear mongering comments at the mention of the GR Corollas are the epitome of trolls. They either have a nefarious agenda to kill out the GR Corolla or pissed off they can’t afford one. The sad thing the lack of discernment and intellect is something that afflicts not only the car community but every other facet including socio-political arena and it’s very sad. Just like you stated to put things in perspective the fires when you do the math represents about 0.0001% of GR Corollas sold (in the US only) However, what irks me the most now is recently a GR Corolla owner jumped on the bandwagon because they know it will create more clicks and views for their TH-cam account. How low can you possibly go? Absolutely no shame in their game. The silver lining though is if this dampens GR Corolla sales it will only make them more rare, resale value and collectibility of the car will increase exponentially, so hold on to that GR Corolla. Great points on the clutch, I didn’t think in terms of the awd system. You have a lifetime subscriber

      A 0w-16 will not protect bearings as well as the 0w-20 and the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is a much higher rated oil and has done better in testing than the Mobil 1. The only reason that oil is getting even thinner than 0w-20 is due to CAFE standards and the government pushing for better MPG, it has nothing to do with what is best for the engine and it's long term health. Meeting ratings is fine, I'm sure the Pennzoil will meet that goal too but it has out performed the Mobil 1 in every comparison test I've seen. And I trust the science of the testing and protection I've seen that the 0w-20 provides over the thinner 0w-16 and 0w-8 oils. Feel free to use what you prefer.

Without them the engineers would never use these thinner oils. In fact they would most likely still use 5w-30. I know many people that do indeed use 5w-30 instead and have for more than 300k miles because it will protect bearing much better. Even when a 5w-30 oil is at operating temperature is plenty thin enough to flow through the smallest of places. The key is to keep the oil clean and change it.
