Be sure to leave the heat sink on but without the fan and then leave it on til shut down. If this doesn't work, then use a heat gun to heat both sides of the board evenly. Don't burn yourself. Then do the reset again. Good luck

No such thing as a "4 red light of death" but you may have a video or video cable issue. This was an old common error on the 360, which had to do with a malfunctioning video cable, either bad HDMI or AV cable which may included bad component cables. This error can occur if either of these cables aren't plugged in, aka seated correctly. You can try pushing the cable or cables into the rear of the Xbox and TV or replacing the cable entirely. @@gothgurlclique Hey Naruto, if you've checked the video and the video cable or tried changing the cable itself without correction, check all the USB slots for bent pins or any sort of metal. At times the the small white plastic piece inside those slots break off and when you stick something in there the pins bend causing the positive to touch the inside of the USB slot. Use a flash light and maybe a magnifying glass to check the front ones and the back ones. Also try using a different type of video cable. If you're using HDMI, then switch to component cables or the regular Xbox VGA video cable.

Exactly. Microsoft designed the Xbox to shut down when over heating occurs. Just be sure to clean off the old cpu paste before adding new cpu paste before reattaching the heatsink and fan. Good luck

@@Romerro1 thanks for your help. I think I screwed up when releasing the x plate to get to replace thermal and scratched motherboard. The console worked before I attempted. Now it turns on green and then just a red light. Gutting really! I ended up buying a refurbed one with 2tb as can’t live without.

Hey Jennifer. If you listen and watch from 1:21 you'll see that I stated that it didnt work for me on hard and I had to complete it on Challenging mode. I think this will solve your issues. Good luck

Well good luck with your repair. You might want to check a few things while you're at it: 1. Use a flash light & check for debri' in the USB & HDMI ports and clear them. 2. Check to see if your power brick status light turns red at anytime during the 360 power cycle. If red, an exact replacement is needed. 3. Be sure that you're using the exact power brick for your console. Mismatching can occur between 360 consoles. I believe it's between the 12v & 14v, meaning the 14v can fit in the 12v but the 12v can't fit in the 14v. Don't quote me on the correct voltages. I honestly can't remember all the old 360 issues, unless you're 'S' in your description is referring to the slim version, then you can disregard the mismatch issue since it doesn't happen with that model. Anyway, happy Gaming if you get it up and running.

I believe that this error is associated with the GPU over heating. Sometimes this is due to lack of ventilation. You may just need to clean the vents to make sure they have clear air flow (remove the dust) or remove the Xbox from an enclosed space such as an entertainment center (it can get hot in there). If you live in a hot climate country then you may need to get a small fan to blow directly onto the Xbox when ever it's in use and last check to make sure you're using the right power brick if you're using the old Xbox 360, since using the wrong power brick could cause an over voltage and overheat the GPU. This doesn't happen on the Xbox 360 Slim models. If none of these tips aid you with cooling, follow the instructions set out in my video in order to do a repair.

Did you cleaned the processor or did you skip this part.

The power brick appears to be going back into stand-by mode. This scenario is usually one of the not so bad ones, because since your Xbox is not red-ringing yet there may be little to no damage to the CPU or other solder points on the MOBO. But... You'll have to check the simple things 1st. First check each of the USB ports (front & rear) with a flash light to make sure that their are no bent pins touching the inside metal port area. This scenario can cause grounding, which will cause the unit to shut off. 2nd, check for a faulty video cable by detaching the HDMI, component or Xbox Red-White-Yellow cables from the Xbox (which ever you have). After you've disconnected your video cable then turn on the Xbox to see if the light stays green and that the Xbox stays on. If it stays on you have a faulty video cable so replace it. If neither of these lead to a solution, then you'll need to purchase some CPU paste so that you can clean off the old and put on the new. Follow the instructions in this video and possibly locate an Xbox disassemble video so you can remove the heatsink and fan so that you can Clean and then add new CPU paste. Although I'm not sure which Xbox you're referring too, the Xbox doesn't require a hard-drive in order to boot into the OS. It's not a computer in which the OS is installed onto a hard drive partition. The OS is ROM encoded by Microsoft and updated periodically over the internet. (ROM = Read Only Memory) The hard drive is mostly used to save your save point data and to save the games you've been given usage rights.

The console just knows its over heating. It doesn't actually know whether it's a ventilation problem or not. Follow the steps in this video for resetting the board or find another video for replacing the thermal paste on the CPU. The thermal paste needs to be moist and not dry so that there's sufficient heat transfer from the CPU to the Heat sink which allows the heat to be blown out of the case by the. CPU heat sink fan as long as the vents aren't coffered by dust or blocked by an object

No.! it is not an indication of normal operations. It is an error message from your console indicating that something is wrong. The error will need to be determined and then repaired before normal operations can continue, along with a steady green light indicating normal operations.

Sure. The video here states if thos things that you've completed do not work for you, that you should consider using a Heat gun. Rewatch the video for suggested instructions.

@@chinahatchild3030 A hair Dryer does not get hot enough. You need a heat gun that has atleast 2 temperature settings; one at 500 & another at 1500. They're usually about $20

This definitely works on Xbox 360's

Your processors heat sink will get hot at 1st. When it resets the heat sink should start to get cooler

I don't think this is a reset issue.

The red light is an indication of a ground fault. Since it took an impact it could be almost anything. You should 1st use a flash light and check all the USB ports to make sure there are no bent pins touching the metal insides and make sure there aren't any touching one another. There are 4 metal pins inside of each USB port. Check them all. Next check to make sure there are no bent pins in the HDMI port on the Xbox if that's the port you're using for video. Third, try turning on the Xbox without the video cable plugged in to see if your light still turns red.
