The Pimax Crystal Light is Disappointing - Here's Why
มุมมอง 8342 หลายเดือนก่อน
I had some issues with the new Pimax Crystal Light. I really do want to like this headset, but there are some glaring flaws that caused me to return it. DisplayPort wired VR gaming is, what I believe, to be the future. But this headset isn't doing it for me. Thanks to my sis @Dogeboidle for the PNG Tuber stuff.
How to Setup Vive Ultimate Trackers for SteamVR
มุมมอง 2.1K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Make sure the dongle is plugged into your computer and is close to wherever your VR playspace is. The 3-1 kit comes with 3 trackers and 1 dongle. You can have up to 5 trackers to 1 dongle. This method of setup is for Non-Vive headsets using the Vive Hub software. I love my pcl when it works, but when its not working its a massive pain. I would say the Quest 3 is a better option for people who just want to get on and go. The trade offs just arent worth it for most people and jumping through hoops, and performing magic every other session just to hope things work the way you want them to, is just a hard sell tbh.
I want to play 2008 roblox, but I don't know how to make it talk to roblox servers. Maybe you have a copy of this roblox map and playing with lots of friends?
If you want an authentic experience, you can play Novetus. You'll be able to run a server on your own PC and play 2008 - 2011. Unfortunately, Rewinder/Austiblox (the client shown in this video) is currently dead. Austiblox had its own servers you can play on, and in Novetus there isn't really a server list that I know of.
ok but my pc not reading my dongle. its gmt.
I won't bore anyone else with the details but I have had Nothing BUT BS coming from Pimax. Unkept Promises and lots of excuses. I paid in Full Nov. 17th after being informed I WOULD receive my Crystal Light BEFORE Xmas. Now it "might be" here by the 30th. I need VR for a private group, Boxing Day Event. Pimax Support has dicked me around for the last two weeks and now playing stupid when all I want is a REFUND so that I can drive 3 hours to Toronto and hopefully find a headset. Newegg guaranteed delivery before xmas up to and including last Saturday. Nobody is guaranteeing anything now. PS> My headset arrived in Canada at least 2 weeks ago and cleared customs. Supposedly there's issues at the warehouse. NOT MY PROBLEM PIMAX. I figure if I were to wait, I'd only end up getting the Screwed Lenses so many have complained about and then have to wait another 2 months and a ton of arguing to rectify that. I Highly Recommend people do NOT Shop with Pimax. Better VR Deals will appear in 2025.

My mate and I had the same issues. So disappointed. I refunded.
If people wanna spend more time setting up these jungle turds than using them in vr than sure they seem alright.
It’s like not working
I couldn’t do it it’s not working😊
As someone moving up from first having joycons and phones, to now having marketplacd slime trackers, I can't WAITTTTT to get my hands on some vive ultimates! My big takeaway for slimes is having to put on all 8 trackers every time I wanna hop in vr with fbt! I love slimes for being so cheap but I'll gladly pay the extra $400 to have 1.) More accurate tracking. 2.) not having to reset due to drift every 5-10 minutes. 3.) Only have to put on 3 trackers FOR that better tracking! Like I said I LOVE slimes and all that I've gotten out of them but I'm ready for an upgrade myself lol
avoid the ultimates at all costs. I have them and they are an ABSOLUTE nightmare. returning them tomorrow after fiddling with thme for weeks.
Using the quest 3 with them....calibrating them is a nightmare. Sometimes it just works, other times it takes me almost 30mins couse they dislocate each ither like 1 Meter formard on 1 tracker and 1 Meter Backwaren on the other 1.... also have to use spacecalibrator and sadly i dont see an option to calibrate each tracker sepretly which woukd make it so fucking easy
ever figure out a solution?
hey man ive been wondering do the vive tracker ultimates work with the quest 3? i want to get them but im scared they dont and i have a actual pc as well (if that matters)
You'll need to play off your PC to be able to use the ultimates with non-vive headsets. I have a Quest 3 and I use virtual desktop for wireless streaming, it works.
Do you have to use a dongle? If so is it able to connect to the pc alone or do i have to by something else to connect the dongle
Yep, gotta use the dongle. You can connect the dongle directly to the PC or use the extender included with the kit. It's a good idea to have the dongle set out in the open next to your play space, with your extender. I don't think the connection goes through walls very well.
@@undercoversteve so I can plug it into the pc directly thanks! I've been having trouble finding this out.
Thank you so much for that tuto
For the past years, I have been using both the Vive Tracker 2.0 and 3.0 with various headsets (Vive, Index, Quest 2 and Quest 3). I bought the Ultimate Trackers last week - it was a bit of an impulse order, because I thought they'd be more convenient for VR sessions with the Quest 3. Oh boy, was I wrong. Space Calibrator is annoying as ever, tracking is wobbly and imprecise, in VRChat I get a lot of drift, and tracking completely fails when I lie down on my couch. The Ultimate Trackers are the most disappointing product from HTC I ever bought and I don't know what to do with them. They just don't do what I need them to do in VRChat. My guess is that they work better with the HTC headsets they were built for. But with my Index and Quest 3, I'm back to using my 3.0s - and I'm pretty annoyed that I spent so much money on trackers that I won't be using.
Are you past the return window? I bought mine on amazon and they have a pretty good return policy there.
@@undercoversteve Yeah, was thinking about that. I believe I still have a few days. Still hoping that they will eventually get better, I don't know.
@@BurstupTV Sucks yur having theses issues cause they work really well for me with the pico 4 tbh
@@tezzya7 Can you lie down on the couch with them? With a base station tracker such as 2.0 and 3.0 that always works. Lying down with the Ultimate Trackers is wonky and bad. And what happens when you leave the play space for a second with one of your feet? For me, it completely destroys calibration and tracking is gone until I do space calibration again. Sometimes I even have to restart SteamVR.
I just got a Quest 3 (my first VR headset) and looking for a PC VR upgrade. I'm not a sim player and more interested in games like Half Life and Metro. How big of a graphical upgrade is a Crystal Light over a Quest 3?
Quite a significant one. The Crystal Light has QLED panels, and 2880x2880 resolution per eye. It also has a wider FOV, with 115 degrees horizontal and 105 degrees vertical. There is also the optional Local Dimming version of the headset you can get, which improves the contrast (very dark black colors, which was the very impressive thing with this headset). The Quest 3 has LED panels, and 2064x2208 resolution per eye. FOV of 110 horizontal and 96 vertical. I had a ton of problems with quality control with this headset, but hey at least I'm getting my money back with the return. If you don't mind *potentially* wasting your time, you could go ahead and try this headset. It's definitely the most affordable PCVR option on the market as of now.
Here's a good VR headset comparison site, this was pretty helpful for my search. vr-compare.com/compare?h1=0q3goALzg&h2=6nd6PhR_A
No issues with mine and I have 2 quest 3 and Pimax crystal light. I have sold the rest. Visually the crystal light is 10 out of 10. First time I get amazed by VR. Audio with DMAS is 10 out of 10. I do not use the mic so I guess is bad. And passthrough cameras are horrible. As you can see quite the contrary of Quest 3. I think they are complementary VR if you have the cash. If you need to choose, quest 3 is an all rounder.
If you like social games, why not just get a standalone microphone?
I considered getting a ModMic for it, but it's just silly that I would have to do that to begin with to at least get bearable mic quality.
as someone with an og vive, trust me this is not how it goes. mod mics don't sound better and the only mics that sound even slightly decent are wired which is bad for many reasons. they should've just given us better control over the mic so that we could've turned off the noise cancelation because that's why the mic sounds pretty good on wired mics because they don't have any of that shit.
Thank you, this helped a lot but I messed up setting up my room or my quest 2 controllers arent up to the task. Had a 4th one with my order but it was delayed. Was hoping to do continious calibration
What a shame. I have a Quest 3 and love it except for the fact that it sends a video to the headset instead of it being a wired displayport connection. Hopefully someone makes a good wired alternative in the future
Does it work on stand alone vr headsets?
no, sorry dawg😭
You seen some changes in the tracking after the lastes updates?
I don't really notice any changes with tracking, no. They did release a better version of the room calibrator like a month ago, before then I had some problems with it.
@@undercoversteve your video before this one the room calibrator was updated?
Nah I made the videos after the update. The trackers are out of beta now too (for non-Vive headsets). They were in beta support for like a year I think.
My PCL had lense issues. Was so bad i had the worst barrel distortion. Terrible sweetspot. Took forever for new lense with no help. Returned it. Also gets hot. Had a friend go through 5 lesnes and 5 replacement headsets. Finslly got good lenses. Im not patient enough for that...
Yeppers, I really just want something outta the box that will work.
I believe you've already returned the headset. Let me forward your video to our engineers, and we’ll make sure all these issues are addressed and fixed.
Thanks. Hopefully it all gets ironed out for the future.
Your customer service is appalling. Still waiting for my replacement, and then you post a video advertising a massive price drop to what I paid for a crap headset.

Couldn't have came out at a better time.
What if i have a well decorated room but my ceiling is like 12 ft big ? Im a little scared now
I don't think the height of your ceiling really matters too much, it's just if there's enough variation of stuff for the trackers to place "markers" onto. A blank ceiling is *probably* fine, since it relies on tracking to your walls mostly in my experience.
@@undercoversteve interesting, thank you :DD
Awesome explanation, The Vive Ultimate Tracker Software is complete and out of beta now, can you try it? see the setup and make a video about it please, I am so interested in
Aß someone using the quest 2, Not having any basestations, those are the best. 600€, no basesations needed etcetc
Do you have them? Does it work standalone now, or are you using PCVR?
Great video G, imma gonna pull thr gun and buy these
owner of these, bad idea! ultra janky set up that's heavily reliant on your room having perfect studio lighting (i mean this btw) and contrasting wallpapered walls (had to deck out my bedroom with ArUco markers printed on A4 paper to get these to track in the first place, no LIDAR or anything fancy here! just crappy cameras) pcvr software which is buggy and unfinished (STILL IN BETA :/) that has you inaccurately scan your room from only the middle of your playspace (thought you could just turn these on and have them learn your surroundings? NOPE!) after consistently getting bad maps, i asked on the discord and was told by a mod to (after the room scan, before clicking save map) walk around and point the trackers from various angles at various parts of my room, in hope of it bettering the map (WHICH IT DID! ...but there is zero indication you are allowed to do this, nor does it actually correct your map grade, you're just supposed to FEEL that it helped during gameplay 🤦) on the subject of the discord, viveverse is filled with confused and or angry people that (like me) couldn't be bothered to wait for slimes nor afford real vive trackers and are now regrettably stuck with these paper weights... seriously, do not buy this e-waste "tracking device" as it has already made obsolete by the existence of much better tracking methods (slimes & other imu derivatives, previous vive trackers & friends, etc.) ...oh and don't even get me started on the scaling issue - if you're planning on pairing these with an oculus headset, GOOD LUCK LOL
@horrorfan1978 thanks bro, order is now canceled.
Scaling issue? I use an Oculus Quest 3 with these and it works okay for me. My lighting is an LED strip, a lamp, and my ceiling lights. After a finnicky setup I got them to work fairly reliably, as long as you don't cover the cameras. I'm not selling out here, they really do work for me lol. There's such a mixed response to these that has me worried about my own purchase. But it works for me, so, eh?
@undercoversteve if it works just fine for you, then fuck it. Use em.
@@undercoversteve yea the further you go from the center of your play-space the more offset the trackers become from reality due to scaling inconsistencies with non htc headsets, i for one have a big room so this is easily noticeable i’m not accusing you of anything, but majority of the people who used these and are satisfied either have mastered/overcome the jank, or are in denial to justify their subpar purchase XD the massive red flag tho is how little updates these trackers have received, i mean the software still being in beta is criminal it’s clear htc does not care about this product in the slightest and has left it to die until further notice, i think it’s actually more likely they release a second iteration (ultimate 2) than ever finishing these :(
Every tracker has its own issues, just have to choose which one you find least annoying. I didn't want to deal with base station clunk, cost, and the worry of one more thing I might kick into oblivion. I might have gone with slimes had it not been for their drift, and their ridiculous shipping issues at the time. I've been pretty happy with these ones as their requirement for light and a visually distinct playspace seemed most manageable to me. Only had issues losing tracking when obscuring the cameras on the tracker. And sometimes they would take too long to regain tracking, though I haven't experienced that in a while so it might have been fixed in an update(?). I am still considering trying slimes just because obstruction won't be an issue, or maybe it might even be fun to mix a set of slimes together with these ones. Though I'm probably just going to wait for something better to come along before I waste more money, and in the mean time I think these definitely have a valid place on the market.
Yeah, it is a pain when it loses tracking, having to wait for it to sync back up. I definitely did notice that sometimes when I sit down, the cameras would get obscured, causing that whole issue. Ideally there would be a solution that would be base station less, not cost so much money, and not have drift. Aren't quite there yet, I suppose :(
They're too temperamental and expensive to be any serious alternative to Vive 3.0 or Tundra. The only situation where it makes sense to get these over the latter is if you own a Vive XR Elite. And the XRE is an absolutely terrible headset no one wants. If you also want more than 3 points of tracking in future, this solution becomes significantly more expensive than if you just bought base stations and Tundras to start with. Ultimate trackers are a dead product on arrival.
That's a fair take. However, in order to even use Vive 3.0s or Tundras, you need a lighthouse setup. ($150 dollars per base station * 2 = $300) and then the Vive 3.0 trackers would be 130 * 3 = 390, so add it all up and it would be $690 dollars. So if you own a Quest 3 like I do, or some other standalone headset, the Ultimates actually come out to be cheaper than getting a full Lighthouse setup. Now that part about getting more than 3 points of tracking is true, which is unfortunate. There is no way I am going to spend $400 dollars so I can see my elbows in VR, absolutely not.
@@undercoversteve What base stations also do that hasn't been mentioned is they give you more options and modularity. Index controllers, lighter and smaller trackers for increased mobility and seamless integration with other headsets if you upgrade to a base station-tracked headset further down the road (And there's are a lot of good ones). You're committing yourself to a proprietary and less reliable ecosystem that doesn't afford you any expandability outside of just buying more super expensive trackers with the Ultimate's. These trackers aren't very popular because VR enthusiasts are savvy to these flaws. $90 less isn't much cheaper for what is a false economy in the long term.
@@T00DEEPBLUE True. True. I personally do feel like the market is moving away from base station tracking and moving toward mostly inside-out tracking, but there are exceptions of that (Somnium VR1, Lighthouse edition of Pimax Crystal Light, etc etc). So, in the end, it's really down to what you prefer. You do make a convincing argument; there's definitely some more I could've gone over in my video.
@@undercoversteve People have been saying that base stations are going obsolete since the Quest 2 came out. The Bigscreen Beyond is base station-tracked and that was released just last year and is excellent. Pimax are still making base station modules for all their newest headsets. Same with Varjo. New VR hardware like the UDCAP gloves from Udexreal are coming onto the market now and they're touted as the best hand tracking gloves the industry has ever seen, and their recommendation is to use base stations. Base stations are still considered the gold standard for high end VR. And with still loads of brand new products coming onto the market to natively support them, they're not going away any time soon.
@@undercoversteve Don't you have a quest 3? Why not just use the camera tracking for your elbows?
