How to use knitty+
knitty+ allows you to select the size you're going to knit, and then you can hide all the other numbers in the pattern. The image above shows what a pattern looks like once you select the size you want (top) and after you hide unused sizes (bottom). Neat, eh?
knitty+ is an additional feature built into the code of Knitty magazine on all patterns going back to Winter 2014, and it's only available to Patrons. Knitty Patrons are readers who support Knitty financially every issue. In exchange, depending on their level of support, they receive exclusive benefits like access to knitty+.

lace stockinette bind off
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Lace bind off, knitted version (as demonstrated in the video above): K1, *k1; insert the tip of the left needle into the fronts of these two stitches from left to right (as if to do an SSK decrease), and knit them together from that position; repeat from * until all sts have been worked. Cut yarn and pull up and out through final st to secure. You can see that the edge is rolling forward a bit ...
Extra yarnovers bind off - extra stretchy
มุมมอง 651ปีที่แล้ว
Extra yarnovers bind off: Bind off as usual, but every fourth stitch make a yarnover on the right-hand needle. You now have two loops on the right-hand needle. Immediately lift the rightmost stitch over the yarnover to bind it off, and then continue binding off as normal for another four stitches before making the next yarnover. This video starts after two stitches have been bound off, and demo...
How to join tiny rounds on DPNs
มุมมอง 518ปีที่แล้ว
How to join tiny rounds in knitting on DPNs. Knit the first stitch of the joining round with both ends of the yarn, the working yarn and the tail. This helps close the gap and keeps everything tidy. And don’t worry about placing a marker; the tail will show you where the round began. For the Fumin' Womb pattern specifically, work the first nine rounds, including the first two sets of increases,...
How to pick up stitches for the arms for Fumin' Womb

How to pick up stitches for the arms for Fumin' Womb tiny amigurumi pattern by Anna Hrachovec | Mochimochiland You’ll need to rejoin the yarn to work the pick-up and knit. So that nothing slips out or gets loose, I recommend another hack: make a slip knot a couple of inches up from the end of the working yarn. When you poke the needle under to grab the stitch, put the slip knot onto the end of ...

Thank you for this video, it was just what I needed as a beginner blocker!
THANK YOU ❤ Tour tips really helped with cables tension
Hello :) I just recently found the magazine online, the website is a perfect example of how to do it. Clear, easy to navigate and full of interesting things without unneccessary blingbling. My favourite is to chose a category, say sweaters, and then scroll back to the oldest patterns. This is a time capsule. Marvellous. Thank you so much for this! The love you put in evety detail shows.
Welcome! Glad you're here and taking advantage of all our resources!
Terrific idea. Thanks
Thank you. This is the best explanation so far 🙏🏼
Thank you for your tutorial. I don’t know how to avoid a short strand of yarn over my cable stitches on the odd numbered row
This is very helpful. Thank you!
Hi, thanks for this guidance. Since my pattern doesn't give the size measurements/# of cast on stitches, it would be great to get that help as well. For example, for a 22" head circumference, how many stitches to cast on for a 20" hat? Did I make a search and determine that way? Much appreciated 🧶
Promo SM 😘
So helpful. Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much. How do you cast on to start a fair isle project? All tutorials start with the knitting itself.
Excellent Excellent!
Norah? Is that you? That's high praise! Thank you!
Your camera is too far away visibly for us see what you are doing: Also the position of the camera is taping you in a side position AND another problem we cannot see because yr hands are covering yr demonstration. The instructions are good: But we cannot see !!
Yeah, we learned as we shot these videos and hopefully you'll see other videos where it's much more clear.
holy smokes I had no idea it was this easy! Wish I looked it up before
Well, at least you've seen it now! Hope cables are fun for you.
Brilliant! It's been 3 or so decades since I did any serious knitting, especially cables (I'm retired now), so this was an awesome re-learn. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Your reassuring side comment of saying "It's perfectly legal" is tantamount to my family's saying, " According [or that's not according] to Hoyle" though the thing about which Dad, his card playing buddy my oldest brother, or Mom is speaking, is usually not anything to do with playing cards, but instead, making a joke about something that went wrong. Btw, Literally wrote the book on games such as poker. Sometimes it can just be characterizing the efficient auto who made up the rules for swinging a hammer, or gluing a drawer front, or a dovetail joint, raking leaves efficiently....
Thank you so well explain ❤
You’re welcome 😊
I've often used an I-cord edge at the end of a row that creates the top edge of a shawl and found that it tends to bind the fabric so there is less stretch. Usually, I just make the stitches really loose so there is enough give on the edge. Adding the yarn over should keep that tightness from happening, yes?
Great vid excellent tips….addicted to cable 😊
Glad you like them!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!

How funny! And I thought I invented that. 😉
What was that? I’ve always felt knitty was a click that I just can’t break into.
On FB wouldn’t let me sign in with Patreon sign on 😢
Very cool feature
❤love it!
Thanks for the thoughts of what to consider! I especially appreciate the 3 different swatches at the end.
We're glad it helped!
Good morning, I've researching this, but cannot seem to understand how to proceed. My pattern calls for a CR8L stating "slip next 7 sets to cable needle CN, p1, then (k1, p1) 3 times, k1 from CN". Can anyone please help?
THANK YOU!!! I love these easy to follow videos with thorough explanations. Thank you for mentioning what to do on the purl side as well!
The way I remembered when I first started knitting cables is Right/Rear, Left/Front (both left and front have the letter f in them).
Thank you so much for this info wrt making hats that fit! My pattern only says to cast on the number of stitches depending on the size (sizes 1,2,3,4 and 5). Pattern Comment says “to fit averaged sized baby’s head.” I’m making size 3 so I hope the size 3 hat fits! There is no indication of measurement to accompany the sizes. 😂 Maybe if I knit the band then measure it and compare it to my grandson’s head measurement I will have a better idea of how it will fit and may have to adjust accordingly.
Hello Kate. I am hoping to add cables just one 16 stitch pattern to a plain sweater. Am i right in thinking that adding a cable pattern to a plain sweater will make the sweater tighter?? Is there a way to counteract this.
Omg what I’ve been purling wrong???
It can happen to anyone!
Ooh, this is genius, I need to finish a project to try this bind off 😃!
Thank you!
I've watched several videos and you are the only person to cover my question/concern. When knitting the first part of the cable from the left needle, snug up the stitches to prevent holes. Others say the holes on the sides of the cables are normal which I don't like. Thank you for covering that issue! 🥰
i need sound
is there supposed to be sound? i dont hear any.
Apparently no sound, wish they had at least typed out what they were doing
@@jerriecook6908 i agree, so disappointed
There is no audio for these videos intentionally. To find out more about what's happening, view the column with the accompanying text here: knitty.com/ISSUEdf22/FEATdf22WK/FEATdf22WK.php And I've added the relevant text to the description above. I hope this helps!
Huh! I'll have to try that next time. I usually cast on one extra stitch and then knit the first and last stitch together to join. Do you find that dealing with only two needles rather than three is an issue?
Happy to be a Patreon for this wonderful resource.
I just noticed that doing cables is kinda like the turn signal on ur car. U push it up, or back, to signal right and down, or front, to signal left. That actually may not work for some people but I'm a truck driver so I'm used to which way my signals are. Others may not even know what I'm talking about and have never even heard of a turn signal before and for those of u, I'm sorry this isn't that helpful.
What an eye opener! Thank you. I don't know why I haven't realized this before. Is the sweater behind you one of your patterns?
“I’ll be RIGHT BACK”, “I LEFT through the FRONT door”. Hope that’s helpful for your knitting clan. 😊
Ugh why it curl
Thank you Alanna Okun! I wish I had known about this wonderful site before today.
Fantastic idea to make bulkier yarn out of what I have on hand. Thank you!
I wish I could give this little video at least a dozen thumbs up likes, this explains how to work a cable so clearly and includes some really hand little tips. Thank you so much xx
I just discovered your channel &mag. WOW! Thank you for an overview.
Thank you so much for this tip video! Cables are always throwing me for a loop. (Pun intended.) 💛
