This report on Songdo offers valuable insights. As someone who has frequented Songdo since 2008, with more regular visits from 2017 onwards, I share some of the author's observations. While I appreciate aspects of Songdo, the over-reliance on car-centric infrastructure hinders walkability and creates a disconnect between its green aspirations and reality. The vast, spaced-out layout forces reliance on vehicles, detracting from the pedestrian experience. I've noticed the struggles of Canal Walk, with shop closures, though the ArtWin Prugio area seems more vibrant. The "international city" label feels superficial. Despite the aim, there's a lack of spaces that truly cater to or foster a sense of belonging for foreigners. The city seems geared towards a specific demographic: affluent Korean families, where mothers and children dominate the daytime landscape, while a vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene is conspicuously absent, pushing younger residents to seek those elsewhere, like Bucheon. The upcoming GTX line holds potential for positive change, hopefully attracting a more diverse population and stimulating the growth of a richer, more inclusive city culture. Relaxing restrictions on nightlife venues could also inject much-needed energy into the city after dark.

When you gave examples of how such innovation has already succeeded, you convinced me to listen to more ideas. How about the times it failed? A much more educational example, although the successes might be used as benchmarks or a simple direction, so long as the successes can be repeated often enough to work out the kinks.

it's crucial that these cities use advance social choice to optimize human welfare. ideally you want modern voting methods like score voting or approval voting, and mechanisms like election-by-jury, which statistically approximate universal turnout, and make voters as educated and rational as humanly possible. one can go further down the pyramid into more specific policies, like having taxes with negative or neutral deadweight loss (e.g. pigovian taxes and land value taxes respectively), and replacing progessive tax rates with UBI. but you want to strike the root, and voting procedures are as root as it gets.

Hats off to everyone involved. We have been commenting on different TH-cam videos that we have a beautiful city which has been destroyed & neglected because of street vending. Thus we have litter all over. No good pedestrian walks & no enough bins. The buildings lack maintenance. Findeco house could have been bringing in some tourists dollars by having people go on the last floor & roof to take pics & videos with views of the city. Hope the CCI will recommend that we make our corridors & buildings to be wheel chair friendly & that open drainages get closed up. Also that all suburb streets should be constructed with safe pedestrian walkways. Townships should be redesigned & have GRZ build proper low cost houses including no more than five story flats in phases for tenants to rent with the goal of house ownership upon the expiry of an agreed rental period

Democracy is a bad system. Competitive dictatorship is better. Look at restaurants, I have complete say over which one I go to and no say in what's on the menu. The result is that restaurants which don't meet people's needs are empty and those that do are full.
