Unlike the commenter who wrote that he didn't want to describe Joe Rogan as a knuckle-dragging fool, I am happy to say that he is that and far worse. He is emblematic of much of what is wrong with the internet and with America today, with his half-truths and his willingness to entertain bizarre conspiracy theories on his program while slyly refusing to either endorse or refute them. That having been said, he is right about Cy Twombly's paintings. Twombly's 'art' is the very embodiment of the crap decried by Tom Wolfe in his great take down of much of modern art, The Painted Word. You only have to look at the TH-cam video describing Twombly's three huge canvases hanging in the Tate, daubs of red acrylic on an ecru surface, any of which could have been executed by a kindergartner with a long enough brush, and as you listen to the rapt voice of the video interlocutor describing them a 'performative,' you instantly know you're being fed a dump truck sized load of crap. As with the old blind sow of yore, even Rogan can root up an acorn now and then.

The reason you haven't come across someone trying to explain why Cy Twombly is so important is that the explanation would be extremely time consuming possibly 4, 6, 8 years of art education or more -that doesn't mean that you couldn't begin to understand significantly in a single conversation -yu could. the understanding of the principals of art underlies his work. His work is t not just great, but amazing. You could make scribbles and believe that you have imitated a Cy Twombly work of art but scribbles are not what Cy Twombly is painting. He is using the other many principles of art and in a way that has been used over time memorial albeit in other manners. He is using the same kind of beauty you actually see in other styles of painting. Without teaching you about art all I can say is that you don't, unfortunately, (and I say unfortunately, because you are missing something really beautiful and in some Cy Twombly's paintings highly insightful and psychological fascinating and emotional as well as methods that you could use to express yourself) you don't have a clue regarding what you are seeing. Without some education your cranky misunderstanding is very understandable -I loved his work from the beginning but it took me some jolts of understanding also -you are not alone.
