Chord organ + chroma console = ambient breakbeat magic
มุมมอง 1.5K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
If you like this you can buy my music here davemachine.bandcamp.com/ I decided to take a punt on this 80s Bontempi chord organ and it actually sounds pretty good. I chopped it up on the Octatrack and ran it through the chroma console to give it some weird textures. Then I decided to just slap a breakbeat in it and call it a day, enjoy! Roll a piece of felt up and slide under the strings down by the bass bridge - you don’t need that much cloth! :)

How’s the mk2 going?
@@davemachine slow but steady, ive actually been taking some time with the digitone solo lately, trying to dial things back and dive deeper on the gear i have. i've been using a lot of EZbot templates with the OT, then tackling small things like setting up the fx send loop.
@ nice plan! It’s best to learn things one at a time
Interesting approach! I've been looking into using the Arranger for this so I can sequence longer stems/sections with things like tempo changes and non-continuous song-sections. I think if going that route then I'll be able to use Parts to have different track 'modes' (like changing a thru to a flex for looping) and can then fit more than 4 songs in a bank by instead spreading them across patterns.
Yeh that’s a cool idea, I’ve still never used the arranger, just looked at the settings and backed away haha. Your approach would be a good way of linking songs, at the moment the song just ends but it would be cool to keep it continuous even with big bpm changes
sick set
Thanks mate 🙌
Hahaha the fan made me laugh
Haha yeh the fan is aggressive
Sick beat mate, the editting is looking slick too!!
Thanks! This one was easier because it was only an hours worth of footage to get through haha
@davemachine yep, that would definetly help matters!
Nice one! Love your filming quality
Thanks mate! Just all on phones!
final jam is so sick great work
Thanks mate!
All those ur vocal adlibs are fire ..are they from a pack?..dope beat
It was a sample that I chopped up, I think it was from this pack wretla.bandcamp.com/album/cfk-sample-pack-one
I like your music lots and i appreciate u just creating things its rad dude
Ahh thanks, I appreciate it!
Love that bass hack man
Yeh I was surprised how much difference it made haha
Nice idea. I have the same book :)
It's a classic!
Great video! I´ve done some recordings myself (just some crappy diy stuff), and you´re absolutely right: recording can take forever, just trying to get things to sound kinda ok, and THEN getting down to actually recording the stuff! Really enjoyed your video.
Thanks mate! Always ends up worth the effort I think!
@@davemachine Yeah, definitely!
I really appreciate that you leave the raw chunk of sample when listening if anyone else wants to take them!
Ahh I hadn't thought of this, I will continue then haha
4:23 sounds like the bassline from Blow The Whistle by Too $hort, haha! NICE
Just gave it a listen and it's a banger haha
LGO on two other LFO, now life makes sense
Haha yeh it can sound like meaningless jargon at first! I explained a bit more about LFOs in my newest video
So good. It’s a mystery how you drive that thing, but you drive it good
nice!!!
damn that track at 23:30 is fire
Haha thanks! It's a bit of a frankenstein song, I took the drums and bass from another song I'd made and improvised the synth line over the top
That marvin bass line is so BEEFY!
Haha yeh it sounds proper mean
Nice, could you tell me where to get that chord sheet you have?
archive.org/details/pianoscaleschart/Scales%20-%20Color.pdf
Love this vibe, you got a banger dude
Thanks mate!
good stuff. how did you rearrange the break into the funky drummer pattern? that would be interesting to hear about
Thanks! I chopped the break into single kicks, snares and hats and then rearranged it by following the drum transcription in the book
How do you like the Breakbeat Bible? Sounds like an amazing resource.
Yeh I’m loving it! I’m learning a lot about the structure of drum patterns which is very helpful for coming up with ideas when I’m programming drums and playing them
is the drum sample taken from a michael Jackson song....I will find the song...is it billie Jean?
it’s from Super Sperm by Captain Sky
Funky lil awesome jam. Thanks for letting us in on your process. Your set up looks like a ton of fun.
Thanks! Yeh it’s taken a while to learn and acquire all this stuff, but now it’s all paying off because its a lot of fun now haha
sounds great!
Thanks mate!
Yo nice vid dude
Thanks mate!
Nice, the Hydra is an interesting device. Cool stuff you do! 🙌
Thanks! Yeh I love my Hydra, it’s a v versatile synth
welll idont have those but funvideo
Haha thanks
Im getting some more hardware soon and its very nice to see someone make some reqlly cool music with all their gear
Thanks mate! What are you getting?
@davemachine digitone 1 itll be my first elektron im hyped
@ Ahh v cool
@@davemachine agreed im very excited !
just received my used MKII in the mail on Friday, really enjoy your videos! I love Jon too but I appreciate that you show the struggle and frustration lmao. It's also nice to see someone with a kind of left-field, overload-adjacent set of influences.
Hey! Glad you're liking the vids, yeh struggle is a big part of the process haha
So good. Glad this showed up in my recommendations!
Thanks mate!
You should try some flatwounds on your bass (and also palm-muting with a pick sounds glorious on a P bass)
Ooh have not heard of flatwounds but that looks like what I’m after
decent bro!
Thanks!
Im falling in loce with your channel man ur just wonderful at this music thang
Appreciate it!
Nice 👍🏼 what did you use for the glitchy video effects sections?
I’ve got an old hardware video mixer that can blend signals. On this one I’ve got my vhs player and then I’m blending it with a Lumen video synth coming from my computer. Then then gets captured by a video capture card back into the computer
im tapped all the way in now
Thanks!
Banger
Thanks!
You’re my best recent discovery ! Cheers
Thanks mate! Glad you’re liking the tunes
Looks like a fun session
Wonderful title to the video Dave lol.
Haha thanks
When the pad came in that was some hella relatable content
Haha if the beat makes you stare into the void it’s doing its job
Didnt know the Octa had scales 😅 Thanks for letting me know 😊 Its a banger indeed!
Such a handy feature!
Sick beats mate! Love them wobble vibes!
Thanks mate, gotta love some wobbly bass
Propz!
Thanks 🙌
