    Weird bc the yarn over makes a cross shape that makes the projects much neater than yarn under. For year I was crocheting yarn under but later on found out about yarn over . But I'm also crocheting wrong side out with more delicate dolls now 😊

    I yarn over.... It's been a lot later, and I still love myself. Lol❤❤❤ But seriously, yarn under is too difficult. The hook doesn't catch it as easily. Maybe it's a left handed thing, idk. But I am happy with what I make.

    I know people are saying it's all about tension, but I find this to be really helpful either way. I do like the neat appearance of the yarn under technique so I’ll give this a try for my next project. Thanks for sharing this with us.

      @@tashanahmclean7608 my opinion is that tension comes with practice but it’s not the only thing. Yarn under definitely helped me, give it a go and let me know how you’re getting along with it 😉

    I have noticed every once in a while some crochet videos that have done the yarn under. I assumed it was just another way to make a single crochet, possibly a regional difference. Thank you for the great information on this difference. Sometimes I do desire tighter stitches. I will be practicing this stitch for sure to get used to the slight difference.

    Isn't the formula more like x rounds for increase, x rounds for elongation, and x-1 rounds for decrease? Not like 5 5 5 but as shown 5 5 4

      Right, I see what you mean. I consider the last round to be the one done with the darning needle to close the hole, and in general easy to remember as a formula. But you have a valid point 👍 As long as you follow each step, you’ll always get a perfect ball 😉

    Honestly, if you have good stitch tension, yarn over can look equally as good as yarn under. I use both techniques depending on what pattern I'm doing, and I find that I like both equally. I don't have problems with holes or looseness at all with yarn over. Good yarn, good stitch tension, and above all the right hook size is key.

      I was going to comment on the hook size too. I’ve found that with the right tension and using a smaller hook size than called for tends to give me really neat and tight stitches.

      @@those_eyes yes I do, but you can do combination of those, I prefer yu/yo as it’s easier on the wrists and I fell the yu/yu looks very similar anyway

    what do you do for a decrease? and also, what about a half double crochet stitch or even a double crochet stitch? Does this yarn under work with other stitches or just with a single crochet stitch??

      @@deeCee2646 for a decrease I would do the same by bringing the yarn under the hook on your first pull through the stitch. In my latest video on how to make a ball I show how to make an invisible decrease with yarn under. Regarding hdc or dc, yes you can yarn under them as well, but I usually don’t as for those stitches I prefer the fabric to be more drapy and yarn over works better for me in those cases

      I know!!! Yarn under felt so odd the first time I tried it. And I had to keep checking each stitch as I was often alternating yarn under and yarn over 🤦‍♀️ But eventually it will become very natural. And now it’s my favourite way to make amigurumi.       It is true 👍 with the stitches being so tight and the movement being shorter you will use less yarn overall your piece with yarn under will look smaller
