I accidentally shot this in slow motion. This is what I believe to be the Matriarch of the small Whitetail deer herd here. She has never approached me like this before. I don't know how she lost the patch of hair on her back but all of the adult deer have some kind of bald spot on their shoulders and backs. Probably from fences.

This is the first time I've ever seen her lay down to nap. She usually sits with the tip of her nose resting on the floor and takes short naps. It was raining, and a big gust of wind eventually rustling the trees woke her up.

It's possible that by Aug 28th they were already out of the pouch and she left them behind in the den. They're pregnant 13 days tops and then the joeys stay in the pouch for about 2 months. They'll have 2-3 litters of joeys per year.
