      No complaints so far. This pedal has a high pitched whine no matter what power supply is used. Some put a capacitor across the output to handle that.

    Mine is a 1967 too, but with the drip-edge they began using mid-year, so a transitional model I assume. The seller was a tech who installed the 3-prong cord, removed death cap, replaced only what needed it, added a master volume at the ground switch in back (which is out of the circuit when turned up all the way). He also modded the bass channel to have more mids like a Marshall, the other channel is stock with beautiful blackface scooped clear tones.

    My Mosky P90 Pro phaser had a switch pop noise so loud it was unusable at regular volume playing, but I eliminated the noise by soldering a wire from the terminal of the switch that turns on the LED to ground so that the switch still turns the phase effect on/off but the LED remains on always, thus no longer sending a voltage jump to the amp every time you activate the effect. Just use your ears to know when the pedal is on or off, like we did in the old days before LEDs.

      We’re making PCBs, not simulating circuits. The process from schematic to layout to submitting the PCB for manufacture is rather easy in Eagle. I haven’t looked at LTSPICE for years but if they’ve added capability and simplified the process, do tell.

    I've made a half dozen of these, in addition to damn near 150 other clipping pedals, and like them very much. It is amenable to a range of germanium PNP transistors. My most recent build uses a 2SA49. Quite honestly, the variation across transistors with the *same* number is probably every bit as wide as the variation across transistors with *different* part numbers, so don't be obsessive about scoring a 2N404. If it's a germanium PNP with an hfe under 100, you're in the right territory and won't be disappointed. Although most would likely attribute the distortion to clipping diodes, my sense is that one of the main functions of those diodes is to function as a quick-and-dirty limiter. As you know, the design uses a fixed gain, and varies distortion intensity by attenuating the input signal. The diodes help to make the volume level relatively consistent across different input levels.

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I try some different transistors in part 5. The 2N404A is still my favorite.

    Issue that I had with my Blue Tube... they have these pots that have legs that come off the PCB at a 90 degree, and are pressed against the pcb. One of these bare legs was pressed onto the trace that belongs to a different part of the circuit. I put a plastic shimmy between that bare leg and the trace where the masking cracked from that leg being pressed on it after all these years. I would wager that a lot of people have tried troubleshooting their pedal and never figured it out. I don't know what revision this pedal is, but everyone who has it I can assure you that there's a pot leg that is pressed against a trace that's going to give you problems down the road once that masking cracks.

  • @RR1976
    @RR1976 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm new to that comparator circuit. Its kicking my ass currently. OP AMP seems to be blown. I subbed an LF353... also a jfet opamp (ordered some TI TL072's from Mouser to eventually keep it all as original as possible). But that 353 also too acted like it was blown and the pedal was stuck on overdrive (RED) (pedal button did nothing) , but the J112 isn't letting the overdrive signal through... Seems like one thing blowing may have taken out a couple things. Gonna remove a few things and rebuild it in blocks and verify I know what's what.

    HI, are the enclosure templates you're fitting the board into around 1m40 something you drew yourself, or do they come with Eagle? Cheers

      Look at the setup video in the Treble Booster playlist. It's in the MadBean library.

      Which madbean library version were you using? The one I found (2012 I think) only has 125b, 1590A/B/BB, and the drawings are more basic than the ones in your vid too.

    Germanium transistor 2n388 is nearly impossible to get. Is there a substitute? I found one, 2N1304, but it sounds over driven with this configuration. Any ideas?

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects ปีที่แล้ว

      Judging from a very quick peek at the datasheet that should be a decent substitute. You could also try a NTE101 but they are about 1.6x on the Hfe.

    Nice and interesting way to use the bias, just lifting the signal so everything is biased, also explains the diode which I was wondering about what it was compensating for in the other video, Nice design that rat. Also just heard you say eagle, that explains why the software looked so great. Nice video's

      Thank you, my friend. I put way too many mods on this Rat. I've pretty much gone back to a stock Rat with green LEDs for clipping. That's my favorite version.

      Yeah I know all about that, I was designing an effect recently but then I ended up having to buy massive boxes as the normal ones wouldn't fit the nine potentiometers😂 Just like when I planned on building my simple drumcomputer, was supposed to be five instruments and sixteen steps. The design turned out to be 16 steps but twelve instruments fully adjustable and I'm still saving for the roughly 270 knobs and switches already got the 218 Led's and housing though😂😂 Probably an gonna hope no one else wants one very quick into soldering it up. Still neat how you've fit all that in such a small space I'm building a three knob limiter right now (first guitar effect instead of synthesizer stuff) and I can barely fit all the jacks and pots in. Got three pots and in/out/power Jack below them on the top, footswitch and dpdt just leaving me 40*54 roughly for electronics. Those stompboxes are crammed

    I'm new here but I was wondering what software you are using to design the schematic. I've been drawing by hand for years because I haven't been able to find one I both like and can afford (and isn't cloud based) but this one looks nice but the name is just cut off by the edge of my screen. Anyway, nice video so far and I'm curious to see the rest

      I use the free version of Eagle. I should point out that my first video shows how to get the software. It's in the Treble Booster playlist. th-cam.com/play/PLLfcC-fVcvb_Bvkz_Z-1lwMStvG46rMef.html

      Awesome, I didn't know there was one. The best way to design on the computer (within my budget without cloud) so far I've found is ltspice which is far from optimum, great software but missing a bunch for designing instruments and effects. And finally something good again to watch before bedtime, was planning to say that and that I watched the whole series before going to bed but I was very tired and fell asleep right at the end of the fifth one. Great channel though and great video's, really glad to discover you last night when I was looking for some distortion limiter inspiration.

    Would a boss FS6 pedal with a stereo jack work with this? I have the same vintage modern but there no reverb at all, I am wondering is it constantly set to off by some chance

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects ปีที่แล้ว

      The FS-6 should work for a 2466 because you can have one set to latching and the other to momentary. However, I think yours may need to be looked at because when there is no foot switch plugged in the reverb should be active all the time.

      @@HomespunEffects Tried the fs6 pedal on momentary for the channel switch which works but only on the pedal and not on the amp itself when the pedal is plugged in. Still nothing from the reverb though.

    • @HomespunEffects
      @HomespunEffects ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loafbo seems like the momentary switch for the dynamic range switch is normally closed. If you press and hold the switch on the FS-6 can you switch the dynamic range from the front of the amp? Regardless, there's a problem with the reverb.
