After my grandfather’s passing my mental health has gone to shit, it’s been over a year now. I looked up to him, he was like my hero. I’ve recently discovered eateot again and it absolutely shattered me. I started digging into dementia, alzheimer’s disease specifically. Even though I’m unsure what kind of dementia my grandfather suffered from, I knew that it would eventually end all the same. However these final minutes struck me like nothing else, especially since one of the final things my grandfather heard was similar to this. I’m almost tearing up as I’m writing this knowing that even though he didn’t live to see this stage, I’d be too horrified to imagine what would happen if he did. He fought so hard to remember his loved ones, but if he would have forgotten… well, I wouldn’t want to imagine it. I miss the big guy.

The album inspired me to read a little Wikipedia. There's a thing with degenerative brain diseases: there are multiple cases of reported "terminal lucidity", where for some very uncertain reason, the patient regains awareness a few days or a few hours before death. The ending starts with noise, then we hear the final melody, then comes the silence.

My grandma, the closest person to me, passed away almost 4 years ago since writing this due to pancreatic cancer. During the last few days of her life, I felt insanely weird in my heart, like something was not going right at all. I decided to call her up and check up on her but she wouldn"t reply. I remember a few days before, calling her and telling her about my work achievement in school (because cmon, i was 11 at the time and wanted to make her proud for if not the last time) and she was. Though the day after, I was told that she had 3 days left to live and I kept begging my family members if I could call her during her last few days, but I've been told not to because she's going through a tough time. When the day came, one of my relatives dressed in black walked in my room and announced that she wasn't still with us, I somehow didn't cry. I knew this was going to happen but I didn't let out a reaction, I don't know why. I knew the person who was the closest to me will disappear from earth though I didn't cry or get shocked or anything else. I just accepted it and i don't know if this is normal. Remember when I mentioned how my heart felt weird during her last few days? Well after her death, it felt rather like TV static, as if our mutual connection has ended, like someone hanging up the phone, but later on, when my family visited her house which is now abandoned, I layed down on the bed where my grandma and I used to watch TV when I was a kid, imagined her next to me, and bawled my eyes out until my mom walked in and I had to quickly wipe my eyes. When I stumbled across this music, I felt an insane referenced connection. Before the ending, I imagined her last moments, reliving her memories in life, when the tv static came before the ending, i imagined her actual death, and when the ending came, I imagined our whole family (except me, because i wasn't allowed) surrounding my grandma who has died all in tears and when the minute of silence came, i Imagined my grandma's all senses to leave, as if she's fully done for. Rest in peace gran. 🕊

I really feel like the 5 minutes of a last song, is the person almost in his end, remember and seeing is life one more time, and when the song stops, his already death, he cannot remember now, and the people around him, are just giving his a minute of silence

Apart from the actual song itself, I've been thinking about the fact that this is probably the second most wanted sample out of the entire album, and honestly the story behind it makes sense and adds a whole new perspective to this album. You see, the first most wanted sample, for a wide variety of reasons, was the hell sirens, a section of a track which represents some sort of painful memory or realization which I personally believe to be the brief realization of exactly what is happening to the brain. We found the sample for that piece very easily, with someone speeding it up and realizing that it sounded a lot like Mantovani's Grenada. The sample which represents one of the scariest moments of this entire experience-for both the listener and the patient-was easy to find, easy to recall. We know what it is and where to find it; anyone could look it up on TH-cam and listen to the original song with ease. Heck, there's probably still somewhere where you can get a physical copy of the song. This, on the other hand, we haven't managed to find the sample for despite it having been almost six years since this track released. We have a few ideas, but the most likely one is a song that we'll likely never get to listen to because the one place that has it has refused several times to share it with the public. When you think about what this track represents, how it symbolizes a final respite for the patient who can, for a brief moment, remember all the happy memories they once thought were lost, you begin to see things differently. We'll likely never have the original track which was sampled for this song, just like how the patient will never truly have the chance to reminisce on their happiest memories, because after this moment the very thing that allowed them to see those memories in the first place will never let them see them again. But all that pain, all that suffering they went through? That was easy to remember, because that was all they knew for who knows how long-just like how the hell sirens were the most-no, only-memorable part of all that terrible static. For that is the horror of this disease, an unstoppable force which tears away one's memories, replaces them with nothing but pain, and finally allows them to see their memories for one last second before destroying them, permanently. On a much lighter note, I'm gonna be ticked if I find out in like a month that someone got a hold of the sample for this song. Well, technically it'd be for this and another one of the Caretaker's songs, but same difference. That'd be a half hour wasted for nothing...
