Always trying to have a better relationship with my planner hopping - sometimes it genuinely gives me a sense of chaos that I don't like, but other times I'm just judging myself based on what I think others think of my system!

The other way you could combine your printed bits with the TN is you could always print and bind your own insert. But it sounds like you really enjoyed the rings too and that is the most important thing! After bujoing in hardback a5s for like 5 years this year I’m using a few MD dot grid books (one for yearly collections, one for day to day, and eventually a long term collections one) that currently are slid into a midori paper cover. I’m going to commission a leather-working friend to make me an A5 TN-like cover to house them later in the year, as I love my passport TN as an everyday carry, and want a Bujo I can keep light and relevant for travel without loads of rewriting the same collection over and over. I love nice fountain pen inks and the paper works really well with them without being ultra heavy like the Yop & Toms I used before, but I will need to find a nice way to archive the books later… Rather than planner hop I tend to just mess around with layouts myself but always keep them quick and minimal (things like an intentional ‘No rulers’ rule etc so I can’t get too perfectionist) so it never takes me too long to try things.

I personally enjoy seeing people planner hop and try out new things! Love to see more people embracing this 🧡

I've been using pocket rings and passport inserts (made myself) for a while, got sick of trying to find an already made product that fits, I am very particular about paper/grid, formatting, etc. Although, I am a sucker for anything Traveler's Notebook, I can't write comfortably. 😢

I don’t think your analogy holds water. Planner hopping is not like reading different genres. It is more like buying 5 special editions of the same book (that you haven’t read yet) because 1 has the gilding in colour you prefer, 2 has the sprayed edges you like, 3 has a bonus chapter, 4 for “annotating” and 5 because “it is part of a set”.

Excellent recap. While some people might not consider it a hobby, but the Linux community can get toxic if you "distro" hop a lot; switching between versions of Linux frequently.

I think the shade on planner hopping has to do with more than consumerism - it reminds us that influencers /people online are human beings and not perfect. When we see people making changes it stirs something in us, reminds us that the people we're engaging with are real people and have agency to make their own decisions outside what we see and think. I am all for planner hopping and love doing it. Also remind myself sometimes if I am being annoyed by something I see online, I can just move on by! No comment required and no mental energy lost on someone else's joy!

I agree with what you're saying about planner hopping. Esp since planning is both an art/craft AND a productivity tool. So at various points in your life or year or week or whatever, you might need something different. Even just the changing seasons makes me crave a fresh start. I think it's totally great to planner hop within your means and with consideration for waste. The ppl that really give it a bad rep are ppl that buy soooo much crap and just have no self awareness of waste and overconsumption. Which is luckily very few ppl out there, just a loud minority (since they usually do it because they're influencers!)

I really appreciate you sharing your journey. I am coming back to planning/journaling for the first time since 2020, and I’ve been feeling so much pressure to use a hobonichi because I bought it first. When I then bought and started using the TN, I feel in love and honestly, I don’t see myself using the hobonichi, but part of me feels bad for not using it and wasting money on those. Your journey with your planner is really teaching me that I can change with the seasons and if the end result is what I’m wanting out of this hobby, then I don’t have to feel bad about switching things up.

You should try the plans by scribble it has a weekly overview and a blank page for every week along with 7 pages and a monthly view it’s a great a6 I have mine in a moterm cover and I take it everywhere I go it has lots of writing space and it’s in a set of two so it won’t get heavy and she has trackers in it too goals and yearly pages

I thought I was going to have 1 planner (Erin Condren daily duo), but instead I have about 5 😆. So yeah, that was not the original plan...

I really got so much out of this video! You explained yourself so well! I, too, have been planner hopping. Hobonichi weeks was too compact for me. I am using a B5 sized vertical weekly this year. It gives me plenty of room. For many of us, this is a fun hobby as well as a utilitarian object. The fine tuning of what works for us is also fun. It makes the mundane special!

I think when it comes to content creators and planner hopping, it’s kind of nice as the viewer because I can go back and re-watch older videos when that person was using a system I’m currently in and get inspo from them. Just because you change systems doesn’t mean your videos aren’t valuable or helpful! I’ve been rewatching your 2023 cousin videos to get inspo for my 2025 cousin. I hope whatever system you decide to be in makes you happy, even if that means it’s just for a few months🤗

As a reader and gamer your wrong. If your part of a community you get just as much flack about switching genres or liking one genre over another. People who only play first person shooters have friends they play with usually who will heckle them for wanting to play something else or play solo games or whatever. It's not just a planner issue. It's mostly a community issue. I'm glad you found a system that worked for you. When I switched to my color eink tablet for journaling it clicked way better than paper did for me. And it took me a while of designing my own templates to find a journal I want to keep for a full year. I think my journals for 2024 from March to December are like six editions and in those my page templates changed frequently. Experimentation is important so is finding a system that works for you. Also it sounds like you have seasonal effectiveness disorder. My husband and I get it every summer. We just hate the heat it messes with our mental health.

Girl just say you want to planner hop and own it, all our emotions tell us something. If you’re happy don’t feel bad at all, your priorities are different than others. For me I know what I like and I stick to it consistently, but not with other things. Planner hopping isn’t great if everyone does it all the time but like it works for you!!! ❤

I was happy to hear your message about not villifiying planner hopping. As someone that likes to experiment and has other hobbies, it's always been a bit strange to me that people are adamant about planner hopping being bad. I have a hard time sticking to one system and use what works for me at any given moment, so I for one will be glad to see a change in the narrative in the planner community. Thank you!

I loved your TN set up, but it's not about me. It's about you and whatever you enjoy and whatever works at any given moment is all that matters. I'm always craving the all in one and it's a struggle. Some sizes work better for certain parts. I just posted my new weeks for 2025 and it's something I love, but im already thinking of my all in one TN system. Such is life. No judgement here! I love watching videos where there are a few planners involved because it shows me a lot of variety, formats, and how to use different things I may not have thought of before. It's the best! I would love planner hopping and transfer vids throughout the year.

people forget that first and foremost a planner is a tool to help you manage life. and some of us rely on this tool more than others. sometimes the type of tool we use stops working because of things we have no control over. people who villanize planner hopping always view it as overindulgence and overconsumption, but it's much more nuanced than that and every case for every person is different! we should be kinder and more empathtic to each other. i hate it how a lot of people nowadays are made to feel guilty about their _hobby_ and practices necessary for their daily life.

I agree with your comparisons to books and video games (as well as all of us being kinder and less judgy). I think the issue with planner hopping is the consumption that comes with it. Many folks don’t do what you do - make your own inserts and reuse materials. Instead, they switch to a new planner and buy every accessory to go with it and broadcast their hauls. So I think perhaps it’s the “haul culture” that is the concern. Not sure how others feel about this. Would be interested to hear other perspectives. Happy new year!! 🎉

Thank you for this video! I’m still trying to figure out the planning style that works for me, and because I don’t know what style will work, I find myself putting off trying new things. It sometimes seems daunting trying to find what works and not having a perfect system right off the bat. Thank you for taking the pressure off of trial and error!

And I am so uneasy about “memory keeping” if I don’t plan on ever looking back over these but then I think what’s the point in any of it…it’s going to have be made an important time to actually look back because I’ve already journaled many things with pictures and meaningful things so…I have also struggle with how to store photos over the years and how to get them off the damn phones to be able to look back and enjoy them! I’m about to go back to digital cameras and film being processed 😂😂

This is such a great video. Leaving digital and coming back old school I am freaking out but already less stressed from not dealing with all the tech! So far I’ve been in hobo weeks for a month and it’s for 2025 and planned to be utilizing for food journal only. It’s ok but already irritating because I’m not sure if it’s what I want😅. I’ve started the hobo cousin and now drooling over the Hemlock and Oak but damn to just try it is detrimental to my financial crap so will have to wait on that, maybe look for a mid year with them depending on how the cousin works. The cousin is so fun already with monthly being just an overall view and I’m not usually a weekly planner but I’m finding it cool for time blocking to see what I’m up to but the daily pages….oh I’m nervous. It’s really important for me to stay functional due to having a separate journal for all my mushy feelings so the dailies are my struggle and how I want to map them out to suit me to help hold myself accountable

Change is villainized in basically every format of life.. and that is very much seen in the planner community (especially) Even though change is a progression of life, and inevitable, some never want to accept that and then the negativity is brought in. We aren’t the same person as 1 year ago, a month ago, a week ago, or even a day ago. We change every day and accepting that you are changing, so your system might need to be tweaked or changed at some point, is good!

Happy New Year🎇🍾🥂2025 is my year for using up all of my planner stuff. Stickers, washi tapes, pens of all kind and I am using a hobo weeks and hobo a6 for that and my goal after that is to have nothing left and I will be back in rings because I am always a minimalist in rings and that is my goal for 2026. No more fluff stuff, only pen and paper in a pocket or a personal slim. I hope I feel the same in a year😆😁😉
