Looks like you could put other attachements on that.Never seen one, neat machine.
They made a few dozen different attachments for those over the years. Extremely versatile machines.
Do you ever show these machines doing the work they were meant to do? I wanted to see it mow some grass!
Not yet, but if you go to the “Gravelyman” channel, Artie just uploaded a great video of mowing with one of his Model Ls.
@@jasonwesbrock8735 I can't find him using the reel attatchment. He does show using a rotory mower attatchment. Would you consider showing the reel mower in use? By the way, the other restorations of these machines are awesome and thanks for the quick response. God bless.
@@nathanscott7910, oh, I’m sorry I misunderstood. I actually sold the reel mower shortly after filming this episode. I think RW3dogs has a video or two of him using a reel mower.
Thank you for the video! I recently bought an L and changed the oil/sludge out from sitting 20 years. It carried good oil pressure but after changing the oil to Rotella 15W40 and a new filter, no pressure on the gauge and didn't see any being returned to the front of the machine. Do these need reprimed every oil change?
weak magneto may need the magnet magnetized
I was wondering about that.
Nice to see an old machine fire that easy. I love finding old small engines that I can work on and get running. I have never seen a spark tester like that, but I will be looking for one now. Thanks.
Sometimes they’re relatively easy to get going. It definitely needs a top end rebuild though.
I do like the sound from the down draft muffler. What brand of spark tester are using.
They are sold under a few different brand names. Mine is an Echo.
Beautiful machine. My dad bought a 24 inch Reo reel mower in the 1950's that I used for 5 years until college.
Thanks for the kind words.
Will you do a video on the attachment? Real type mower and show us any tips and tricks. Also, your Magneto tricks might be cool too even though the whole video is great.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks, Chuck. I actually sold that reel mower shortly after the last episode, so I don’t have it anymore. I do have an earlier one that I’m planning to restore at some point, so hopefully I’ll be able to share that project too.
@@jasonwesbrock8735 You do a great job.Love your videos.I'll be on standby for any Is that gravely video
If you have an accurate ohmmeter, check the resistance of the spark plug wire. I able to lower it from completely open (no connection) to 2 ohms with a pencil and some 400 grit sandpaper at the plug end. No more misfires, and free.
Thanks for the tip. I really appreciate the input.
Good job Jason l. It sounds good. The magnetos can sometimes drive me crazy 🔧👍
Thanks, Artie. They can be a headache at times.
I hope your videos coming out this week❤❤❤❤
@@chuckb9867 Yes Chuck B I'll have one for you Thursday morning 🔧👍
@@gravelyman I'll be ready as usual. Always love your content
@gravelyman, I can’t wait! Your videos are always outstanding.
Congratulations. Sounds good. Its nice that parts are still readily available to keep these old machines running. PaulL
Thanks, Paul.
Great video, very well done, clear and informative! Thank you
Thank you for your kind words.
test the spark issue the easy old school way instead of ripping into it. Grab the plug wire and spin the engine over. if you feel a slight tingle you have spark. Re gap the plug 0.20 and fire it up.
The first day of my first job turning a wrench at our family’s tractor shop (16 years old) our mechanic used me for a spark tester like that. Funny prank, and I sure learned a lot from that guy…like not grabbing a spark plug wire to test for spark. 😉
@@jasonwesbrock8735 I have an old F20 Farmall and the easiest way to shut it down is to ground the plugs with my finger tips and just let it shut down. Been doing that for damn near 60 yrs too. It only hurt the first time, after that I knew to expect it and it never bothered me again.
I've been treating all my old stored machines with oil in everything and everywhere for the last 60 years. It save loads of time and $$$ when it comes time to rinse it out and fire it up. Very common old school practice and as for the younger Generation, I laugh my ass off every time I hear someone who has no clue as to the advantages.
Thank you for you feedback.
Awesome episode super cool!
Thanks, Chris.
Used to be a common practice back in the day, when shutting down for the winter, they would pour oil in the carburetor until it shut off. Then in the spring, they were just pour gas down the carburetor kept pouring it down till it was cleared out.
Thanks. That’s very interesting.
I have saw oil put in the cast iron carbs several times when working on them over the past 15 to 20 years I guess it was like your theory to keep them from rusting but unfortunately it makes more work for me and you of course but I try my best to restore these old machines which I have my last two I am going to restore since my health has went down I will still work on other peoples machines but I want restore anymore I have two I couldn’t finish on Facebook marketplace for 800
Thanks for the info. I guess it’s not that uncommon.
I usually put a spark tester on if I don't get a pop in a couple of pulls. With no sediment bowl, an inline filter might be a good addition. Oil filled carb was wierd. You're almost there. Keep up the good work. PaulL
Thanks. I certainly wasn’t expecting that carb issue.
I had to do the same thing on my muffler
congrats I love it.
I'm impressed Jason how it started on the first pull. I'm looking forward to part 3 🔧👍
Thanks, Artie.
Thanks! I have my '54 L in my garage to do the same filter and oil line change. Do you need teflon tape on the T and adapter going into the crankcase? PaulL
I’ve never used teflon tape on them.
Love the dodge ball clip lol
Classic movie.
Beautiful
Thanks.

Beautiful job! I just picked up a 52 yesterday and it looks like it came out of a time capsul. Wooden grips and all. I'd like to attempt the same process with mine. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks for the kind words. They’re fun machines to restore.
Good job explaining the installation of the mower deck 🔧👍
Thanks. Much appreciated. 👍
It be nice to get a follow up vid on the 332.
Thanks. I’m hoping to do that soon. The winter was so mild that I never even got to use the snowblower this year.
To prime the oil pump , lift the front and lower the back , all oil goes to the pump , a few turns on the engine , the pump is primed , start engine and keep the back lowered , watch the oil gage , to increase oil pressure , ball and spring in oil return line .
Thanks for the tip. That’s definitely one way to do it. 👍
Nice tip about the Edison mag. I hope you were able too return it. The tractor looks and runs great 🔧👍
Thanks. Unfortunately, the cam seals decided to start leaking too. 😂
@@jasonwesbrock8735 Unfortunate. I'm sorry to hear that!

I'm glad you could get the metal rings off in one piece.@@jasonwesbrock8735
I got lucky. These were loose ones I got with some other stuff. Otherwise, it’s a bit messy to remove them.
Nice tractor! I have a John Deere 265 with a 46-inch mower deck. It was built in 1986. I live in Florida so no need for the snow blower. lol I still pull my deck every year for maintenance. Stripped the deck had it sandblasted repainted and replaced all the bearings a few years ago. Still runs smooth. The older JD tractors run forever!!
265s were excellent machines. 👍
Just moved to Southern WI this past summer hopefully you will be putting up a video of you using the blower here soon.
Hopefully the weather will break soon and we’ll get back up there to use it.
Good job ,reminds me of my old 316 blower hook up. I also had a blade, snowblower, but with single hydraulics I had no power control for angle. Had to get off tractor each and everytime I wanted an angle shift . Having a x530 currently a blade is manageable from the seat. Thinking of getting 700 series now to bring hydraulics back into play👍
Only having one spoon of hydraulics on a snow blade would be a pain.
