Wyoming Cutthroat Slam
6 friends from Alabama, 4 species of cutthroat trout, 10 days of camping and a 4500-mile round trip to officially complete the Wyoming Game and Fish's Cutthroat Slam, all on a fly rod.
Only 2,380 anglers have completed this challenge since the Cutt-Slam’s inception in 1996. One angler achieved Master Angler with a 20 inch Yellowstone cutthroat. Only 5113 anglers have ever reached Master Angler status.
This slam is meant to draw attention and appreciation for the habitat needs and management efforts for the state's 4 main native cutthroat species (although technically there are 5 with the Westlope Cutt having a tiny footprint in the state).

      It is gorgeous. I had a friend that owned some property downstream. That is how I came to float it. He doesn’t live there anymore so I have not been back. I really enjoyed that float. I’d live there if I could!

      Put in at US Highway 82 east. Takeout at Bull Slough Bridge for the shortest two day float or Bottle Creek for a long two day or Highway 29 on the Conecuh River for a really long two day float.

    We have a group of six and plan to paddle the Sepulga in mid July. Is this a low water time? Several people tend to complain about a lot of portage. We intend to put in at Simmons Creek or Bull Slough and paddle to Brooklyn. We might even do an overnight and paddle to McGowen Bridge or Cotton House provided the water moves and there are good camping spots.

    • @steven-scoggins-riverrunfly
      @steven-scoggins-riverrunfly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Frank Fowlkes camping spots are not always readily available on parts of the Sepulga and greatly depends on the previous years flooding. Water levels should be fine outside of a couple spots. You’ll possibly have to drag a kayak over a couple of small shoals but there is no real portage anywhere on that river. Rain at any point can change things instantly of course. My video shows most of the shoals in the sections you mention. Bull Slough to Brooklyn is a nice float. I’ve also floated all the way to Conecuh River and none of it really has any shoals to speak of.

    Steven, great video for capturing the beautiful country and bountiful fishing. My brother and I are meeting in Missoula in mid June of this year, (2020) with a couple of our boys. He is coming in from our home of Blue Ridge, Ga which also offers great trout fishing. I now live in Columbus, Oh. I was pleasantly surprised to see who's cabin you stayed in as that is where we will be staying for 4 nights. Clint is a great person to deal with as well as to just talk to. We have booked a couple days with John Perry to float with because the water may still be too high in mid June to do a lot of wading. Thanks for the great video.

    _These are amazing.•••>__allmy.tips/SevylorKayaks?ШП __ We just used them on Lake Chelan, WA for the first time. It really did pump up in 5 minutes and we were in the water. It is a bit of a challenge to figure out the backpack into the seat. And it is really hard to fit back into the backpack comopactly. All three of my teens, with no experience at all kayaking were maneuvering all over the lake. The are super confortable and a hell of a lot of fun. I am going to buy 2 more so the whole family can kayak together. We all had a blast. They are light, durable, and really cute. The oars work great. They are very compact as well. This couldn't have been more perfect for us._
