They weren’t ripped off This whole thing was sketchy and the vender said on an interview that this was all very sketchy. Also this was 7 years ago and was an unlimited version of the card which is cheaper in general and was actually around $650 when the episode was being made according to the vender. $700 for it all because it was staged and clearly they wanted it sold for tv
This was 11 years ago. This is white brodered so it's Unlimited edition. The value at time was worth $1,000-$1,150. SO $700 was a fair price for cash back then in 2013. However he they gave him $700+ for the whole bulk plus binder then yes. They got ripped off.
I feel bad for the store owner in this video actually, since the constant cuts suggest the scene is being heavily edited and presenting him in a bad light. That Lotus is clearly damaged and the other two are likely CE. All other cards were commons from RECENT sets (if there was anything else of value the showrunner would've totally put it in), which is suspicious since that means the prev owner was a recently started player that somehow owned 3 very recognisable cards and didn't take it with them. After a quick google search, Shuffle & Cut is clearly a real store with real people working there so I don't think this was *entirely* staged. They probably were a small business that was approached by the reality show people and thought this might be a good way to get some exposure. And like many small businesses that get shown on "Reality" TV, they are likely being presented via a distorted lens. I have no doubt that the popularity of this clip in isolation have done them no good. Update: Looking at further information, just this year (2023) the youtuber PleasantKenobi did an interview with the Owner and he claims the show did heavily trim the full conversation. He was suspicious of the layout of the binder but since the cards themselves seemed legit he gave an offer he believed was fair. Additionally, people have mixed opinions of the store itself (in the sense that people either love it or hate it) but the information I found relevant is that there are several anonymous but unconnected testimonies of people in different forums who say they visited the store and claim the cards are real cards. The reason I want to spotlight this other side of the story is because I can see that there are recent comments here that are just parroting everyone else without adding anything. Not to mention I found rumours that was clearly false information such as the Owner being "flown in" despite the shirt clearly showing the name and logo of an actual store in California
Everyone saying he got ripped off has no idea what the card prices were like back in early 2012. That lotus was HP/damaged and the other two pieces of power were CE which were like 50 bucks on a good day. This was a fair deal back then. Even more so. Vendors get shit on even when they're offering fair deals, people are so ignorant.
probably a somewhat fair price at the time this was not an 1993 alpha so probably unlimited Edition at the time worth around 1200 so 700 with Intention to resell is ok today that card is worth around 12-15k gm or at least 9+ that was maybe a 6.0 or 6.5 at best
Wow the cards he got for 700 was one hell of a steal even if they are unlimited the black lotus alone is still worth $13,000 - $14,000 usd good job at getting ripped off.
People…it’s a scripted show.. not real. The black lotus by the way, has to be NM to even get $2,000. People can ask $12k all day doesn’t mean it sells for it unless it’s graded.
What was the name of this shop? I’d like to never step foot in their door. Took complete advantage of a clueless customer. My god.. this is 2022 now and those things just keep rocketing
Black lotus sold recently for 3 mil
“Are these things bad?” These people are allowed to vote and what’s worse they’re voting for Trump.
I think It's a Joke
OHHHH HELLLLL NOOOOO
Bro they got ripped anywhere from 15k minimum to potentially hundreds of thousands depending on the grade😭
