My understanding is that you aren't supposed to use aluminum to boil water or to get hot in contact with potable water. Maybe consider using a steel version bunt pan instead of anodized aluminum

Those first bulbs replaced those lenses are very sensitive the little pins on either side of the lens break very easy what a pain in the ass LOL

I replaced my diaphram like the one in your video because it wouldn't shut off and it was leaky. Now the sprinklers do not turn on manually like they used to, any ideas? Swapped solenoids with one I knew was working and no luck either.

The AC Inverter loss is very high because he is using a modified (or Square) sine wave. A good Pure (or True) sine wave is around 90 to 95% efficient.

Except at 9:03, because of the solenoid that open up creates a water path on top, thus the pressure on the top cavity will actually decrease (will not pressurize but depressurize), because water has a place to flow out, pushing the large diaphragm up and opening up the main circular opening below. Blown solenoid, highly doubt it was a poor connection with common wire or common wire touching ground( ground fault). You have a irritrol 205 WITH FLOW CONTROL. This valve has been made the same for over 40 years. The really old ones were made by richdale, RICHDALE sold to irritrol( same valve) TORO owns irritrol. Irritrol 205’s ( always get flow control,knob in middle) flow control will shut off the valve normally 98-99%sometimes 100%…. That valve today along with its sister valve irritrol 2400 jar top, 1” are the best valves for the money period.that solenoid most likely had a short inside it, starts to heat up and the heat causes it to expand. It also looks like solenoid after lightning/power surge hit them. Surprised the fuse( older timer box ) didn’t blow or alarm for short on zone didn’t come on and go to next zone, skips zone until fix. Normally solenoid short without any busting of outside case, say this is rare, unless he found out later lightning caused it, which is common. Last pic in video he has a rain-bird DV100 W/OUT FLOW ONTROL( one of the worst valves you can buy, they are fast closing valve, slams close causing WATER HAMMER) remember pay the 75 cent extra get a FLOW CONTROL. THE diaphragm setting out looks like a 1” Hunter PGV( some letters can’t remember) hunters are great valves. Hunter valves WILL ALWAYS HAVE RED SOLENOID wires, and thankfully they are the longest solenoid wires….. the diaphragm also closely resembles a weathermatic 1” valve, they are very good SLOW closing valves BUT have the worst solenoids ( don’t last, they are not 100% water proof, and not have a plunger holder, so it pops out very easy. He is alway cleaning the solenoid port( use metal part of common sprinkler flag….. honestly I wouldn’t recommend a DIY to rebuild a irritrol 205, it’s not easy getting the top lined up perfect w/ holes on body, looks easy cause he is doing it OUTSIDE VALVE BOX ON TABLE, doing it in valve box not so easy, specially inside a 6” round valve box, I’ve done about 700 plus rebuild with that valve and doing it inside a 6” V box I get it right the 1st time about 8 of 10 times….. doing it in open space isn’t easy for someone that’s never done it… it’s the hardest valve to put top to body. And if it’s slightly OFF( not lined w/ solenoid port, it will STILL screw down and seem like you got it right, sometimes you can bend port tip on the top if that happens. The Jar-top can be a paid if you have small v.box and can’t hand twist ring off. Digging up box to get pliers on it. NOTE: make sure ALL DIRT IS REMOVED FROM THREADS WHEN REINSTALLING… DIY, ADVISE NOT TO MESS WITH 205’s , they are best valves but hard to rebuild. Avg. life 20-25 years, solenoids normally last 25-30 years. Almost for got, the old 205’s have plastic screw holding diaphragm together, it breaks after 20plus years, it is clear/light color and drop to bottom of valve and often overlooked, remove it. Also the very old ones had metal solenoids, the solenoid have a O-RING on them( sometimes it stays inside the solenoid “hole” make sure it’s out. Also old solenoid didn’t have plunger holders( plastic piece can be removed and sometimes must be) Note: not all new solenoids will match up with old model 205’s, in that case replace top/ rebuild valve… I know if it’s only solenoid needing replaced it sucks to install newer top, but ALL NEW TOP WILL MATE/MATCH WITH ANY YEAR BODY… OLD 2400 JAR-TOP W/OUT SOLENOID ADAPTER, YOU MUST REPLACE TOP,. REMEMBER 205’S AND 2400’S NEVER CUT VALVE OUT AND REPLACE WITH NEW VALVE, ALWAYS REBUILD THE VALVE. HUNTERS 4 BOLT VALVES ARE DIY FRIENDLY. BTW THAT VALVE WAS MADE IN RED,GREEN,WHITE,BLACK, NOW GRAY,IVE WORKED ON ALL…RICHDALE =irritrol Rain-bird dv100 don’t buy w/ high water pressure. Take it from A master of this trade.

Well explained! I had a valve stuck open and it turned out to be grass roots had forced there way into the cavity of the plunger and was keeping the valve open. Just incredible the strength of these roots.

I have irrigation system with a zone frozen in the on position and had no idea what brand of valve I needed to fix. Kind of difficult to order parts and learn repair if you don't even know brand. I couldn't see a brand name on my valve since it was so far down in a hole and could only see the top of the valves. I was able to tell from your video that my valve was exactly the one you demonstrated! By watching your video I not only learned what brand of valve I had but also how to fix my valve (by simply buying another new valve and replacing the guts and solenoid from the new valve). My "rebuilt" valve works great and no PVC pipe work needed! You have my sincere thanks for such a great job on this video!!!!

As others said, thanks for explaining HOW this valve works. I had no idea, but now knowing it's a pressure differential that opens it makes sense. Clever design. Now, I need to figure out why my valve isn't closing. It opens, sprinklers run but they won't stop. I give the valve a light tap with a screwdriver handle and it closes. Something is hanging up... sucks when I find the sprinklers have run for a few hours!!
