    About your opinion on on how many things to choose from in Danish supermakets vs. French ditto, I think you have a point. I can of course be difficult to know why that is, but one thing, I believe, is, that the French are much more serious about and know more about food than Danes do (in general). Also (I don't remember the exact numbers) French people use a bigger percentage of their salary on foot than Danes do and then it's quite understandable to demand both better quality and more "things" to chose from 😊

    Danish law put restrictions on how big grocery stores can be. The bigger they are, the stronger the limitations on when they can open and close, and what days they are enforced on closing days. Also the bigger they are the more they are taxed, as they are taxed per square meter. To be able to keep open as much as possible, they narrow down the size, which affects the selection options, as smaller stores don’t have room for large selection. The smaller stores also have a smaller staff, so keeping the more expensive alcohol behind bars prevents theft.

    😊 Reading this 3 years after you wrote this and, all of it still very accurate and relevant. One éxample is your number 6 about not 'bragging' which I take the liberty of changing to simply just doing/working on things most Danes don't....Danes hate this as, it makes them feel insecure! The Danes even export this behaviour. Resently I was on a holiday in a wonderful African nation and, I constantly heard Danish tourists talking (almost chanting) about the country and people they visited, claiming, these African people now have to learn to do - what the Danes called "the rest of us" do !!!? The specific country in question, happen to be a top developed country in Africa, the population is young, strong, hard working and no, certainly shouldn't change anything at all! I suggest Danish people from Denmark simply stay home and, try to learn that not all people on this planet, have any desire (or requirement) to be like "the rest of us" from Denmark.. In "", simply because this behaviour comes from a very sad Scandinavian "law" called the Jantelaw.... A 'law"which has nothing in common with any judicial law anywhere on our planet but seems to have become the Danish "constitution"... 😮

      @TonnyBredsgaard 😊 the very sad staff within the office of the Danish state attorney, ordered me to prove my birth right some years ago..??? Some hundred years family background, my birth certificate, my fluency in the Danish language and my passport wasn't enough according to this little psychopath...maybe this has to do with the theft from and, abuse of my Danish identy, - who knows or, it could have to do with the 27 people (100% innocent) the Danes have either completely destroyed or "just" killed by now, because they wanted to work with me on a wonderful project about our "fine" Danish "History" (the complete lies) 😰. Unfortunately it's not human possible to see immediately in a person, if he/she is good or evil hence my full contempt of the Danes... I was born in a place called Jylland as the daughter of the sad families, responsible for the Holocaust and, I live in Ireland, work for the government here hence, I'm vetted 100% Have a good Sunday and please check out the subjects "administering" and "preaching" in the place in which you live. Many of them ARE exactly as described by the lovely Cape Verdians I visited back in January: Completely insane😰! !

    We don't small talk like other countries, but you can still do it to a dane. And if you do you will se the person open up and many times actually likes it. And about number 6, that's just a myth. Of course you can talk about your success to danish people. Of course you can be proud of yourself if you have done something good. I don't think we are much different there than in other countries. I don't think french people like when you bragging to much either.

    40 degrees that's an ambulance, your life can be in danger and you will be partly unconscious. 39,5 and rising, I would call an ambulance. The winter:live with it, don't fight it. Be active in the winter too. Eat kale, lookup "grønkål", its a superfood. Unfortunately, the Danes have more or less forgotten our winter food. The Germans have not, they still eat sauerkraut, it gets them through the winter. In the winter, eat kale once or twice a week. Grønkål suppe, stuvede hvidkål, brunkål and others. Find an old recipe book, don't use modern recipes on the net. When "food-science" shall explain Grønkål, they say that without it, there would be no Scandinavia. It made sure that people were healthy in the old days. It is very interesting food. Latin: Brassica oleracea var. sabellica

    English has been mandatory in school since 1943. I don't know if you know, German is also mandatory, only in 4 years, so we are not very good at it. English from first day in school. So all native Danes speak English and German. Imagine, your kids will speak: Danish, French, English and German.

    Yes, we are very informal. As an example, should you meet our Prime minister, you can her by her first name, Mette. Only the Royals (so far) you use the old form: De, Dem and Deres. Some years ago I had some online meetings with a couple of Brits, it took me some time to convince them not to call me Sir. I really hate it. This old way of speaking was dropped in the late 60s, I think it was.

    I'd say the most important thing here, is please do learn the traffic rules. Along with the Netherlands, we probably have the most cyclists of _any_ country. Everyone rides their bike everywhere. However, on the main roads there is a raised bike path specifically for the cyclists, and on the side streets etc. there will at the very least be a marking to let you know which part is a bike lane, and which part of the road is meant for the cars. Those of us who drive cars, will never, _ever_ drive in the bike lanes. But, as a cyclist, and this goes out to every Danish cyclist as well, please do signal your intentions - if us motorists can see that you intend to make a right-hand turn, we won't have to wait to verify that you're _not_ planning on crossing infront of us, and that helps traffic flow a _lot_ smoother. Also, signalling your intentions, makes it a lot safer for you as you don't confuse someone driving about a ton of steel. For the tourists, just follow the local cyclists, except when they misunderstand the red light, yellow means "clear the crossing", it doesn't mean "I can at least get the front wheel over the line before it changes to red, and therefore I am perfectly fine and totally within my rights to continue". You are _not._ If you do that, you should probably be glad I don't drive bulldozer. Or a tank. The point is that you _stop_ on yellow, otherwise you're fucking up the flow because others will have to wait for you to clear the intersection, and you're not really _that_ important. Tourists, don't be like self righteous Danish cyclists, be better.

    I find it a bit strange that some people are so surprised about the "no word for please"-thing. You don't have one word for it in French either ! The French say "s'il vout plaît" and the Danes say "vær så venlig" or "vær venlig" - I don't think that many languages use only one word. The English do, the Germans do (bitte) - anyone else ?

    • @AFrenchWomanLivingInDenmark

      Fair enough! Maybe I should have phrased it differently 😊 Politeness is not used as much on an every day , face to face context here in Denmark. This is something that I had to adjust with my partner who rarely says “please”, “thank you”, “sorry” etc Whereas in French we use those words all the time and really take politeness to the next level with anyone you meet 😊

    • @thomasthyrrestrup7526
      @thomasthyrrestrup7526 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AFrenchWomanLivingInDenmark I think I get what you mean, but in my mind (maybe because I'm Danish), it will, I think, quite easily, become superficial so that one say "please" just to say please. Of course it's a bit different with "sorry" BUT, what I don't like about "sorry" is, when it's used for "just" giving an apology, when what's really neaded, is for the person to change behavior. Hope you see my point whether you agree or not ! 🙂

    Thanks for the video! I am a Kiwi living in Denmark with my Danish partner and have been living in Copenhagen since March 2020 (yes, that March). My partner comes from Fyn and we have always planned on heading back once her studies had finished. We find ourselves in a similar position as you were at the time you moved. Neither of us have been big city people and we love quiet open spaces and things being less busy. I have always enjoyed going to Fyn to we are very excited to now be making plans to move over this year. We also want out kids (yet to have) to grow up outside of a city to gain more experiences and be closer with my partners wider family (who we enjoy the company of). Since I am so far from my family in New Zealand, it doesn't make sense to not be closer to hers so that has been a driving force to move to Fyn also. Again, thanks for your content and maybe our paths will cross.

    Most places in Denmark the tapwater will be better than anything bought in a bottle! Some places it has a lot of chalk (hard) which means it is advisable to put softener in during washing in a machine, for less use of soap. In nearby Norway you may be nearly unable to wash off soap during a bath, from the very soft water.
