    Thank you! Great video! But what about glare? I have a lot of windows and love them but am struggling with the constantly changing light, so I'm looking for studio lighting. What I see in your video is that the easel lamp appears to be creating glare. Maybe that's just the angle of the camera? So far everything I've tried has created a glare problem that makes it difficult to understand what I'm seeing on the canvas.

    • @janetferraroartstudio4234
      @janetferraroartstudio4234 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do understand your question as I also have a studio with large windows too. What I have found with this lamp is it is easy for me to limit the glare on my painting by adjusting the arms on this lamp and the light intensity. With each arm having 4 levels of light , I can turn the light down on one or the other arm or on both. I also have one window where the sun , being lower on the horizon, directly shines in during the fall to winter months. I tape tracing paper over that window which creates filtered light and that really helps. I have had this lamp for a few years now and use it every time I paint at my easel. I am still really happy with it. I hope this helps! And yes, my filming has a learning curve…lol. Thank you for your question! 😊

    Janet Ferraro Art Studio - How much Alkyd Medium do you use in each paint layer to comply with the fat over lean principle? Thanks for any help. I want to use it right away.

    • @janetferraroartstudio4234
      @janetferraroartstudio4234 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, thank you for your question. Each layer should have slightly more oil than the previous layer. This increases the ‘fat’ of each layer. Add the oil that you prefer using , such as linseed oil. You can then keep the alkyd amount the same in each layer or decrease it. I hope this helps. Happy painting! ❤️

      Yes , when I place my order, the frame company adds a half inch allowance , extra space, around the frame. So when I order a 16 x 20 frame, it would be 17x 21 inches. In my video description below the video I list the frame company that I purchase my custom floating frames from, including the one I use in this demonstration video. They are located in Texas and have wonderful products, customer service and ship fairly quickly. They often run sales too ! 😊

    H E L P AGAIN PLEASE: I'd like to know, in a normal temp, normal humidity art studio, painting with "normal" layers of paint, not too thick or thin, .... if I start an oil portrait in the morning, how many hours can I expect of open wet paint time to keep working. I've read that the paint will dry overnight but no one says how many hours of continuous open work time I can expect in an average studio. This is important for me to know because I want to completely finish a layer of paint on a portrait before stopping for the day.

    • @janetferraroartstudio4234

      That’s a good question that is so dependent on your environment. You mentioned many factors. I would experiment on a practice canvas and check in on it throughout the day. For me it does dry overnight when I am painting in thin layers. My environment is like you describe for your environment. It’s best to experiment in your environment to really know the answer.

      Canvas giclee is a print on canvas. Giclee is a French word meaning ‘fine spray’. This indicates a high quality print. The machine, printer, that prints onto the canvas uses a fine spray of up to 12 colors that can be sprayed finer than the width of a human hair.

    How can us amateur art buyers tell if we are looking at an ``enhanced ``canvas print/giclee ?

      The best way in my opinion is to look at the artwork from a side angle in good natural light and look for actual brush marks or paint marks, like those made with a palette knife. I hope this helps.
