If I ever have children and I accepted any amount of money from them as compensation for raising them, I would have completely failed as an adult, parent and human being and would much rather die that live to see that happen. I'm in Kenya and my dad grew up in a poor rural coffee farmers homestead yet he has built so much for himself in real estate and global financial markets, one day we got into an argument about my grades while in high school and I flipped out and told him I would pay him back everything, because my dumbass was conditioned by teachers to believe parents consider us investments so we should work hard and take care of them. He didn't take that very well and he sat me down and told me that I am his responsibility and that even 50 years down the line, If I ever came back home having lost, he would welcome me back and see that I stood back up on my feet again. My dad has absolutely no need for my money, but I show up every once in a while, with a nice, tailored suit, or a watch worth 100x more than he could ever afford when we were kids, and despite the fact that he can afford them, those gifts mean more to him than some stupid, "Here's $100,000 to payback my college fund"
