For a non-profit organization, why do they have the highest price to rent a bar code. Each year you are forced to pay again and again for the same codes and if you don't your barcode is removed from their database. No doubt this is a huge scam created by my companies. Thank goodness there are now MUCH cheaper places to purchase quality barcodes and I am not talking about those that are resold or fake either.

FAKE FAKE FAKE. They scammed me yesterday. I paid. Did not receive the barcodes. Contacted them. They did not believe I paid. I showed them my payment receipt. Still did not wanted to help. They told me to contact my bank and ended the convo. I ordered my first order 2 months ago. FOUND OUT THAT THESE ARE USED CODES! Lost my money. But even worse. An account isn't necessary but we do recommend it. The biggest benefit to creating an account is the ability to login and access your barcode package no matter where you're at. With that being said, the barcode numbers are 100% functional without the account. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Hello Jonathan, So I sell shoes, and each of them comes in a different style, a different name, a different leather, a different color of that leather, and a different size. If I buy from you 200 UPCs, you'll give me the first six digits the same and then 200 different ways to finish those first six digits. So if, for example, you give me the first six digit code 101010 and then I will choose number 1 for the style of shoes, "ballet flats," then number 17 for the name of the shoes, "LOLA," then 19 for the leather type "Arabic python," and then number 01 for "Red," and then 35 for size 35. In this scenario, it will already be 15 digits, and that's too many. But then, let's say we get the number of digits right to 12 digits. Do we then upload into your website the information that each of the 200 UPCs I bought from you represents so that any shop in the world scans it and reads that this is a "ballet flat called Lola made in red Arabic python leather in size 35"? My main question is how this information gets updated in the GS1 database when not purchased through GS1. My second question is if we can only use six digits after the first six digits that don't change, how can we do it for shoes? I understand the max number is 12.
If you were to purchase 200 barcode numbers you would receive 200 unique 13 digit EAN's and 12 digit UPC numbers. These would come from the same prefix (first 6 digits the same) and be in numerical order. The 200 numbers would be available for use on 200 different products. You would not need to add any digits. We're glad to explain GS1's outdated GEPIR database. GEPIR is an acronym: Global-Electronic-Party-Information-Registry. A fancy way of saying: GS1's private database. If you visit GS1's GEPIR site and search any legal GTIN (UPC/EAN) number on earth you will see 1 of 3 things: 1: Up to date, GS1 owned: Any current barcode renter (This applies if you are currently licensing your barcodes annually). 2: Not up to date, privately owned: A historical database for all owned GTIN's dating from GS1's class-action lawsuit (settled on August 28th of 2002) going all the way back to the early 1970's when barcodes first came about. 3: No data, GS1 owned: If nothing appears, that is a sign that GS1 has yet to issue that barcode number out and that GS1 owns and controls that specific GTIN number. If you search for a GTIN that is ownable (barcode under GS1's lawsuit/settlement) you'll find a different company name than your own, this is the original company who purchased the entire block of barcodes from the UCC (Now GS1-US) before 2002 and has since sold their full barcode rights to us, Bar Codes Talk. Note: GS1 refuses to update their database with the current legal owner of the prefix/GTIN, which means that the name displayed will not match your own. They are able to do this because the absence of up to date information is not a falsehood, it is omission. This is business-as-usual for a monopoly like GS1, which is protecting it's interests and does not want to recount the class-action suit they had to settle. First, let’s dispel two misconceptions: Barcode numbers/images do not contain any product data/price information. There is not a single, global database for retail barcode/product information. To Assign/Register your barcode, do the following: Step 1: First thing you would do is personally assign the bar codes to your products (Yes, it is as simple as it sounds), this is done by you/your company and you would have to keep your own records of these associations. Many use spreadsheets or their own Point of Sale system, either way we recommend having your records backed up in case your computer crashes. Step 2: Provide this data to the store or online retailer where your product will be sold at. Each store has their own internal, private database (aka: POS / Point-Of-Sales System) that stores your data. This means that every new store/website you approach won't know anything about your product until you provide the data for them to put into their private system. Step 3: Repeat for all new stores/websites/distributors you partner with to sell your barcoded products. Note: A barcode scanning app is NOT the same thing as a retail store/scanner. When scanning a barcode using a smartphone app, these apps aggregate multiple publicly available product databases such as Google Shopping, Amazon, Shopify, as well as other ecommerce databases. To get your product to show up on these private apps, you would need to reach out to these private app "companies" and directly upload your product data to them. You can assign the barcode to a product using a point of sale system or inventory management software.
Pretty sure this is not legitimate. I have over 200 barcodes from these people, all on my Shopify store, and google sales channel will not recognize these codes bc they are NOT REGISTERED! If you are running a legitimate business, go with gs1. A legit registered bar code has all of your product data built in once it’s registered. I can look up any of my bar codes (barcode lookup) and they essentially do not exist.

Yes, each unique product will need its own barcode number. For example: If you have one red shirt size small, you will need one barcode number and it can be used on that shirt as many times as you'd like. I’m so confused about UPC and GTIN
They're essentially one and the same. GTIN is a blanket term similar to "barcode". A GTIN-12 is a UPC, a GTIN-13 is an EAN. When you take a deep dive into barcodes you'll realize there are a lot of unnecessary acronyms which can be confusing, once you're past that it's all pretty simple.
