1984 US Olympic Trials Womens 200m Track & Field

Evelyn Ashford pulled up in a heat, therefore she didn't contest in the final. Valerie Brisco Hooks wins the 1984 200m Olympic Trials final, with Florence Griffith in second place (in lane 7). Commentary from the late great Wilma Rudolph! Enjoy and Leave positive Comments :)
these 2 lucky in 84 first ashford was injured 2nd all the drug sample results went missing! 3rd koch, wockel and gohr were missing in the olympics . . .
Anyone that is doing good and breaks world records is called a drug cheat. When you are doing good there will always be haters right behind you!
Exquisite.
Yeah, but, look at how hard she was training leading up to that year! I mean, training all day and even after midnight? Plus, look at her coach...probably one of the best coaches ever. The times she was running before was without training; it was her raw speed, and she was still world class.
she really was beautiful R.I.P.
No one is saying she wasn't a great runner. She was up amoungst the best for years. But when she broke that world record, it came out of nowhere and was by a hugh margin. No one who followed Track and Field could have believed that she did that without drugs
I think Kathy was fourth, but 3rd in thr 400
agree...
C'mon dude. You're stretching it here. Anyone who's ever run track knows she was doping. 21.34 Tells the story
Forza Flo Jo !
Look at the consistency in FloJo. Even though she didn't win, look at how she always starts slow, then picks it up. It's very clear that even here, she peaks at a faster pace than the other runners. In 1988, I think she simply learned her majic and trained very hard to improve her start, etc., and even in 1988, her start was not the best. I think it is very possible for her to have not been using drugs; her speed is very clear here...I would have loved to see Flo Jo running in lane 3.
take in the gap
All those ladies are so beautiful to watch. I love Flo Jo and I never believed any of the cheating rumors. Wilma Rudolph remains one of my personal heroes - wow, she was such an inspirational story.
flojo was fab!!!!!! great form!!!
She got Silver and Merlene the Bronze.
Here's an interesting note about this ceremony. There were 3 100m gold medalists on the podium (Kondrateyva '80, Ashford '84, and Flo-Jo '88), 3 100m silver medalists (Gohr '80, Brown '84, and Ashford '88), and 1 100m bronze medalist (Auerswald-Lange '80). Talk about depth.
It was truly one of the most exciting races I've ever seen. Ashford pulled off an amazing anchor leg considering that her and Flo-Jo nearly botched the exchange.
80s hair was just crazy!
No I dont have it posted on her yet. However I do have it somewhere in my collection. It will take me some time to sort through all the videos I have, when I do I will be sure to post the race!
upload this race please
No prob! :)
The Los Angeles Coliseum is in Atlanta? And don't compare the farce that was those 96 games to the greatness of the 1984 Olympics in L.A. That same venue in Atlanta was a temporary track on a baseball field, for gosh sakes...
yep, they also held the '96 Olympic trials in the same venue in Atlanta.
Thanks so very much for posting this video. I've wanted to watch this race for the longest time because I never saw the '84 trials. Would love to also see the 100 & 400 if you have them. Great vids!
Wow didnt know Evelyn ran 200m, Go Flo Jo
You are welcome! I will try my best to sort through my videos to see if i have those races:)
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!! Do you have Valerie run ning the 200 and 400 at the 1984 Olympics?
Thanks for The comments :)
yes Thats true :)
Not at all odd, better to help the athletes get used to the track and crowd etc
