I umpired at rosewater footy ground in the late 1990s with the defining squeals if train wheels, and the clammer of box cars.

Semaphore Road is a joke now. Even with a train line running through the middle of it the road it was more open and safer than the obstacle course it has become.

Another well put together presentation, thank you! My Old Man was Post Master at Alberton Post Office in the late 40s, & my family lived in the Post Office residence right next to the Alberton railway station. Grandma lived in Short Street, Rosewater & the Dry Creek line ran past her back fence. Us kids used to be entertained with stories of the "good old days" in the Port, including a catastrophic fire in the Glanville sugar mill, when floods of treacle blocked the train line. Thanks for the memories, mate!!!

Me again, a new kid on the block! Another gem, mate. Well done!!! I "grew up" (NEVER!) in the Woodville area & we used to hang out in Finsbury in the 1950s. I remember the guard house or blockhouse near Torrens Road, and the big, empty, open, concreted tanks sunk into the ground at various points. We figured they must've been water storages in case of fire in any of the factories. We called them "batteries" for some obscure reason...🤔

Just found your site. Very nicely done! 50 odd years ago, I was a member of Adelaide Harriers athletics club, & every Sunday morning a group of us used to do our "hill work" in this area. World class runners (not me, I hasten to add!) like Billy James & Maureen Moyle (RIP) used to run up that gully & we'd often speculate about how all the old train wheels got into the creek bed. Good job, mate!!!👍

Nice work. I read a heritage document done for the silos in hopes that it would be heritage listed, apparently they were the first silos in SA. I think about last year I saw a train here and the video turned out ok, but my stills camera wouldn’t focus in time 😳 Sometime in the future I am hoping to do a video explaining the demolition of silos around SA, I managed to get some sort of coverage of most of the ones closer to Adelaide which includes Hamley Bridge, Mallala, Long Plains, and the 1 video of Nantawarra.

Four of the explosive vans still exist. One is fully restored at the National Railway Museum, one is rotting away at Cobdogla and two are restored and preserved indoors at the Illawarra Light Railway Museum in NSW. The latter were originally at the SA Motor Museum but they gave them to Illawarra fifty years ago. The Milang Railway Museum tried to do a deal with Illawarra to get one back to SA but they want to keep them both.

Watched many of your vids now & always look forward to the history lesson. I only had a passing interested in rail but now thru your vids am a bit more enthused. Im a patriotic croweater, though I'm now retired & living in Queanbeyan. Theres an ol family story of my grandfather who was at the helm of SAs largest steam train that was derailed i think near Bordertown. My grandmother had a copy of the accident report... unfortunately lost to time. It was also mentioned in a book she had. I'm sure it was called Rail Accidents in South Australia or something... Do you know this book & how i could find out more about that incident. His surname was Sharrad (my mothers maiden name). The large Sharrad family started with two brothers from Kent, one had 11 sons, the other 7 sons... now their offspring has infiltrated every state & territory. Another sad incident was a young Sharrad girl lost her life falling from a train at Tailem Bend. Anywho keep up valuable work! Cheers.

What Pochi Richi will ned yo do in coming years is to invest in narrow guage concrete sleepers inserted one in 4 wooden , this will help to secure the track in guage and over time dramatically bring down track maintenance.
